Why do threads sometimes get closed?

A variety of reasons. Usually the thread has taken a direction that goes against the board rules and it has gone too far to bring it back on track so the moderators/webmasters decide to just close it. It is also against board rules to restart a closed thread so any threads started to continue the discussion will be closed and possibly an infraction issued.
