Thread for anyone and everyone who is excited the CP!

Hello Molly! Let me start by saying I love your name! Anyway, I think the fact that you're waiting until you graduate is pretty interesting.. I'm still not sure when I'm going to do the CP so for me, I like to hear everyone's ideas about when they will go and why. Is there any certain reason you plan on waiting until you graduate? I think doing Photopass would be pretty amazing, except there's been many times during busy seasons I've seen ridiculously long lines for Photopass.. People are very impatient and most of the time do NOT form an orderly line to wait to have their picture taken, so you have two or three families at a time stepping forward to hand you their Photopass cards.. It seems like it could get pretty hectic. But then again, what job at Disney wouldn't get hectic from time to time? Haha. I guess it's just something everyone has to deal with.

My parents hate hearing about the CP too! They just don't get it! :confused3

I agree with your first answer.. Yeah, it can be a demanding job I'm sure, but if you're a real Disney fan (like most everyone at the Disboards is) then you're most likely going to find the fun at working there! The homesick thing really is my main concern.. It's not like I can hop in my car after work and drive the nine hours back to my house!

Jack Sparrow is just amazing
And I love pins.. I have a HUGE collection. Thanks for writing, hope you keep coming back to this thread! Just a reminder, everyone can talk to everyone on here! :) Let's be more social! Who knows, what if we all run into each other one day during the CP! We'll have a good icebreaker! :flower3: "oh hey! weren't you that girl I talked to on the DIS?!" :dance3:

Heheh you're so sweet, thankyou!

About doing the CP after I graduate -- it was kind of a long process for me to finally decide on that. I first decided I wanted to do the CP last October, and from the get-go I was sooo set on Fall 2011, which would be the first semester of my junior year in college. My school doesn't take credit for the CP, but I had lots of credit from high school AP classes and was on track to graduate a semester early anyway, so doing the CP would mean I would still graduate "on time" -- meaning May 2013. But I just recently switched majors, to a double major with a really demanding course load. And now I'll be lucky if I graduate on time to begin with! xD So, if I did to the CP while still an undergrad, it would mean pushing my graduation date back a semester. That wasn't a huge concern of mine, but the more I thought about it the more I didn't want to deal with taking the semester off.
Basically, with my school, I'd be taking a "leave of absence" and be temporarily withdrawn from the university. The worst part is, I wouldn't be able to pick my classes for the following semester until the very latest (which meant I'd have last picks and have no chance at decent classes, boo!) because I technically wouldn't be a student during the regular class-selecting time. I'd also be a little stuck when it comes to housing, I wouldn't get to come back in the Spring and have my same roommate. They'd randomly place me somewhere else. :/ Overall there was just soo much stuff I didn't want to have to worry about! Like my scholarship, certain classes only being available in the Fall, and just kind of wanting to get college over with. Not to mention I dunno how I'd be able to come back in January and be expected to concentrate on any of my classes right after coming home from Disney World! @___@ I'd be too busy suffering from Post-Disney Depression!

Sorry this is such a long response haha. I just wonder if other people who do the CP during their undergrad have as many issues as I would have had! So all in all I think waiting til I've graduated will be better.

Not to mention I have a couple friends who are younger than me, who would want to do the Fall 2013 CP. :) So that would be nice hehe.

And yeah, Photopass is a lot of work, very hectic and stressful and even kind of dangerous! I actually own the same type of DSLR camera they use in the parks so I feel that I'm prepared on that level, but having to deal with all those crazy guests kind of scares me! Makes me think I might prefer a nice calm job in Merchandise or something. But then I think, who else gets the opportunity to be an official Disney World Photographer??? To know that I'd be taking photos of people during one of their happiest memories and have those photos on their fridge, in photo albums, in the memories foreeever, I think it's kind of cool. :)

And yeah, don't even get me started on how much my parents hate the idea of me doing the CP. My mom's convinced that the housing they provide is tiny dormitories where they stick 10 people in a room. I've been trying to show her YouTube videos of peoples' apartment tours because the apts are actually pretty darn nice!

They require you to sometimes!? well, I wouldn't mind so much if they provided the lanyard and pins. Those pins can be so dang pricey :rotfl:

They definitely provide the lanyard and pins! Don't they?? I don't think they'd ever expect you to trade your own pins!

I mean, if they did, I could just imagine a little 5-year-old girl coming up to me, seeing my lanyard and saying "Oooooooh I love your Cinderella pin!!! Can we trade????" To which I would promptly reply: "No way, this is my favorite! You can't have it!" and then run away or something. And leave the girl crying there. Boom, terminated. hahaha.

I KNOW! If I had a favorite pin (it would probably be a toy story pin :p), I don't think I could easily give it up :rotfl: And besides...if I paid ten bucks for the dang thing I am KEEPING IT. I'm so cheap :p But if disney provided the pins... no harm, no foul :-)

Oh yeah, you don't have to pay for them. They give them to you.. But you're required to pay for pins if you lose them. From what I've heard anyway. I've asked a lot of CMs last time I went to Disney and they told me that they didn't have a choice if they got to wear a lanyard or not, they just got assigned one.

Wow! Then I'd definitely wait until I graduated to do the CP too.. Sounds like a whole lot of complication!! You definitely made the right choice to wait in my opinion. Not being there to pick the classes and stuff would suck!! And don't worry about long responses :thumbsup2 The longer the better! I think waiting till you graduate is something I might consider.. Because I'd hate just leaving for a semester. I like to always be on time. It's still something I have to ponder on

You make a good point on the Photopass. I think it would be such a nice thing to be taking pictures of everyone's memories. I've seen a couple of very disgruntled Photopass photographers in the busy seasons, but I've also had a lot of nice convos with very cool Photopass people! It's definitely something to consider doing.

Hahaha! Your mom sounds like mine.. But yeah, the apartments seem pretty nice.. And mostly, if people are working at Disney, they probably love Disney as much as you do, so there's always something to talk about!! I try to explain that to my mom, but eh :confused3 We'll see. They'll come around to the idea! :upsidedow

HAHAHAH!! I completely agree!! I'd definitely not be able to do that, I'm WAY too attached to my pins! They provide pins and lanyards, but it's your responsibility to make sure you don't lose the pins or the lanyard.

I love Toy Story! And yes, those pins are not cheap! I should put a pic on here of my collection. haha. toooooo many.

Oh my goodness, did you not bawl when (and if) you saw toy story 3?! Oh my god, i cried all the way home!

Hi guys! I'm Molly, I'm a sophomore at university in New York, and I originally wanted to do Fall 2011 but as of late I am leaning more towards Fall 2013, after I graduate! I know waiting an extra two years is gonna be so hard but I think it'll be worth it. :)

Molly - What school do you go to? I also go to college in NYC and had a similar problem with not being able to go while still in school since I'd have to take a semester off, and I was curious if we go to the same school...probably not but it was worth asking. I go to Barnard College of Columbia University. It would've been hilarious if we went to the same school!

Aah that would have been awesome! My school's actually on Long Island, NY. I go to Hofstra. @__@ I'm envious you go to Barnard, what a great school!
I wiiish I could find people from my school who wanted to do the CP! I feel so lonely where I am because no one else here shares my longing to work for Disney!

I am totally jumping in to say ohhh myyyy gooodness I was bawling as soon as the trailers started! Seeing Toy Story 3 for the first time was such an emotional rollercoaster haha one minute I was crying my eyes out, the next I was cracking up, and then all over again. And the last 20 minutes, oh gosh it was uncontrollable. All I can say is it's a good thing we had our 3-D glasses on so no one could see all the tears pouring out of my eyes.

I saw it on my graduation day, so my tears started during the Andy growing up home video. Oh my gosh, that movie was the most emotional 2 hours of my life. I cried more during toy story 3 than I did during the notebook and titanic put together. the last 20 minutes of the movie were torture. and you're so lucky you saw it in 3-D!! That must have been cool :-)

Awesome! I'm from LI so I know Hofstra. I definitely think it's a NY/LI thing that nobody knows about the college program and schools don't seem to accept credit for it, which definitely sucks. I've been rethinking if I'll be able to do it after I graduate, but I'm going to apply anyway just to see.

But yeah I definitely hear ya about going to a school where nobody else cares about Disney.

And back to the thread you all were having, Toy Story 3 is amazinggg. My boyfriend is absolutely obsessed with it, and cried the first two times he saw it in theaters. And also takes every opportunity to watch it with family and friends.

It's so weird cause apparently Nassau Community College is really big on the CP? Or so I've heard? So the campus reps come and always make it seem like such a big deal here at Hofstra when in reality it's not supported at all here. xD

I'm most nervous that I'll wait til after I graduate, but then get a job offer (scarce when you're a history education major!) that I won't wanna turn down. And then, whoosh, there goes my last chance to do the CP.

Hey everyone!! Here's some questions for everyone!!

1. What do you think will be the hardest thing about the CP?
2. Who is your favorite Disney character? (Can be ANY character! Not just Mickey, Donald, Goofy, etc)
3. Would you want to wear a pin lanyard on the job or not?

Another random question I've been wondering:
Is anyone else worried that their love for Disney might go down once they do the CP? I've heard that some people absolutely love it and it only makes them love Disney more, but I've also heard working there takes some of the magic away from going back as a paying customer! What do you think?

Thanks everyone! Hoping for some more people on this thread! Also hoping my little mistake on the title (leaving out the word "about") isn't causing people not to write on here! Haha! :cool1:

1. I think the hardest thing will be remembering that I am at work and not at the parks to play, lol.
2. My favorite character is the Genie from Aladdin.
3. I would love to wear a pin lanyard! I've had some great conversations with some of the cast members while asking about their pins and I think it would be a lot of fun!

And to answer your other question, I was worried about my love of Disney going down too, but after reading through a lot of different forums I've seen several encouraging posts about how people's love of Disney has just grow even more since working there so I am keeping my hopes up! :)

I know! It was so heartbreaking! Haha. I definitely cried. At the movie theater I went to, it got a standing ovation at the end! :)

AHHH!! I love your first answer! So true.. What a big transition, going from being a guest at Disney and being on vacation to becoming a worker and not being able to just run wild around Disney!!

I love the Genie
I agree with your third answer! I think it would be a lot of fun to do that! I can only see it being annoying if you're really busy and people are crowding around you to see your pins.. but eh, it's part of the job! haha.

I am keeping my hopes up too! Thank you for your answers, I loved them! :cool1:

Hi guys - just thought I'd drop by to say hi :goodvibes

I'm always on the DISboards, but I hardly ever to come over to the college section..

Hey Beth :) :welcome: Thanks for writing on here! That's awesome! I bet you're excited! I would be! :goodvibes: Come back if you think about it and tell us all about it :mickeyjum

Hello everyone :goodvibes

My name's Kelsey, I'm a freshman in college, and I'm from Alaska. I want to do either the Disneyland CP or the WDW CP (right now I'm more likely thinking WDW) spring of 2012 which is my sophomore year.

I'm SO excited. I've been planning this since high school.

I don't know *exactly* what I want to do yet, but I wouldn't mind QSFB in outdoor foods, merchandise, or attractions.
