We seem to be getting more questions about Viruses/Trojans/Spyware etc on all the boards. I have started a thread on the Tech Support board here so that we can keep all of the good information people are sharing in one place.

Alex, Good guide but you missed one of the most important actions: UPDATE. If you are using Microsoft's Internet Explorer, you should update once a week. Go to Tools and select Windows Update. Many spyware programs get installed through vulnerabilities (holes) in IE. An easier way, though, is to stop using IE. Try Mozilla's Firefox. Although a couple of holes have been discovered, it's no where near as many as IE.
Also, to give MS some credit, their Anti-Spyware (beta) program is very good. Sunbelt software and Webroot also make anti-spyware programs for the home user.
