After checking all in terminal rentals, I found that Thrifty has the best rate so far for my mid January rental. Since this is my first time using them will they make me go to the counter or can I go right to the garage? I have already registered with Blue Chip. When I get to the garage can I pick any car from the aisle for the type of car I reserved? Do they try to push any add ons before I leave? Do they charge for my wife as an additional driver and does she have to be in the car with me when I check out?

I know there are alot of questions but I have been a loyal Alamo customer for ever but they are just too expensive so I am in virgin territory here. If any of you have any other observations about USING THRIFTY ONLY, please feel free to add anything additional. Thanks very much.

I found the same thing, I got a Thrifty Rental for 40% less than my Hertz rental for late January. The Thrifty site says you can skip the counter your first rental, they assign you a vehicle but you can change it to another vehicle in the same class. My research tells me if you go to the counter you get a hard sell for insurance and extras, but as a Blue Chip it shouldn't be a problem. Your spouse is the only person that can be an authorized additional driver without charge, and they would need to be in the car with you at check out or at the counter with you in terminal.

Overall Thrifty is to Hertz like Alamo is to National. A little cheaper, cars a little older or with a little higher mileage.
