I am staying at the Anabella this year and was just wondering if anyone had any thoughts on the hotel itself, walking distance etc...

I have stayed at the Anabella last year and it is a really nice hotel. The rooms are nice size, beds are comfortable, and it has all the amenities for a hotel room. The landscape is really nice, better than normal hotels. The pools are nothing special, but they are very nice. The only bad thing I have with the hotel is that they do have Wi-Fi, but you have to pay a fee if you want to get on the internet. Parking fee is high, I believe it was $12 to park a car on site per day. There is no free breakfast except they do have continental breakfast for specific rooms, but they do have a restaurant called "Tangerine Grill & Patio".

I believe the walking distance from the Anabella to DL park is around a 15 min walk.

My sister really enjoyed staying there. She had a baby at the time, and found the distance too far. But other than that, she would recommend it.

I spent a night there in 2006 before spending the next couple at Paradise Pier, and I was less than impressed. Bad plumbing in the bathroom, non-working ice machines and a couple of maintenance issues with the rooms (which were nice compared to some places, but would have been nicer if they didn't fall apart.) I suspect the specific issues I mentioned have probably been fixed, but I'd probably be hesitant to stay there again.

Walking distance to the parks is about 3/4 of a mile to the park gates via the Grand Californian lobby. If you've been walking all day that'll seem fairly long, but it's actually not that much farther away than some of the Harbor Boulevard hotels.

I'll be staying there in about a week so I'll let you know how it goes. I wasn't aware the parking fee was so high.

I stayed there awhile back as well. I was going solo and the room was fine. They gave me the room in the back, furthest from the lobby almost by the dumpster. Scared the bejeebers out of me because I was by myself.
The walk was longer than I expected. If you are one who like to hoof it to the park, get good shoes or you'll get blisters (like I did :) ). If you are a more relaxed traveler then the walk is fine... expect a longer walk. So if it's shorter than you expected you'll be pleasantly surprised instead of disappointed.

When I stayed there the room light and ac is controlled by the room key. So when you go out the lights and ac went out as well. If you go during summer time that might be a bit hard because your room will get warm.

Other than that nothing bad about the hotel. Although I personally would pick one that's closer on S. Harbor.

I was booked there for my upcoming trip but canceled it and booked at the Doubletree Guest Suites instead. I read too many reviews re: noise problems and things breaking in the rooms to want to keep my reservations. If this trip wasn't a working trip for my DH I might of kept my reservations, but I didn't want DH to have work stress and little annoying things at the hotel at the same time.
I think if you ask for an upstairs room and one away from the loading area for the Convention Center you should be ok. The rooms and grounds look very nice to me, it seems that noise and upkeep are people's biggest complaints.
I was also bothered by the fact that I booked the "Golden State" rate of $99 a night for the Mission Suite, but in fine print they said that if we were found to be attending a convention (my DH is) they could charge us a higher rate. They didn't have convention rate available, so I thought it was weird that they could spring a higher rate on you once there. I don't know if they would I just wasn't comfortable that they might.

We will be staying there starting next Saturday 6/12 for 5 nights, I will let you know how we like it! I have read good things and looking forward to it!

We just stayed there for four nights in March. We loved it. We had no issues and they gave us 2 free continental breakfasts each morning (that we didn't end up using) The walk wasn't too far for us, there was 2 adults, a 7, 4, and 1 year old. We were pushing a tandem double stroller. We had originally booked the desert Inn and Suites which is MUCH closer but after driving by we were glad we moved to the Annabella. It felt like a nice hotel. Also we didn't swim.

Thanks again everyone. CWBronco and MrsMoore, I would love to hear how everything goes. Have a great trip!
