It takes two TS credits, right?

Is it really good?

I think we would really enjoy the dancers - is that a big part of it or small?

Thanks :)

The show is "corny" but we have seen it several times - only once with our 3 years old son. It held his attention until they talked (the script/story line is pretty lame). Depending on the other dining plans you have, you might save the credits and go for another character meal.

Actually we are trying the Hoop Dee Doo Revue in April. We heard it was "corny" too, but the music might keep my son more entertained.

I prefer HDDR over the Luau, the food is far better, and so is the show...yes the show is still corny but it's funny and cute too....the dancers are good at the Luau, but i really didn't enjoy the food that much...

We have been to the Luau 3 times and loved it everytime... the food is good. and the dancing is great.
We are trying the HDDR next month just to try it.... so it will be nice to compare the shows.

we enjoyed it we took our dd4 and ds 2 at the time and they enjoyed it too. I would do it again.

Aloha was mostly dancing and singing. The fire juggler near the end of the show was great. Audience participation, including time for children to come on stage and try hula dancing. Food was pretty good and plenty of it -- baked chicken and ribs and salad, grilled pinapple, nice salad.

Hoop-De-Doo was very similar to an old TV country comedy called Hee Haw... or a bit like Vaudeville comedy. Fried chicken, beans, salad, etc... This was corny but still funny.

Both include beer and wine... one of them includes sangria - I think that is HDD.

Seating... we paid for Aloha even though we were on the dining plan to get category 1 seating. The sooner you make your ADR, the better your seats will be within the category of seating you select. I think Cat. 1 makes a big difference at Aloha..... not so important at Hoop-De-Doo, all seats had a good view... though Cat 1 would be nicer... I was willing to use 2 meal credits.... you're paying for the show too, not just the food.

We did not like the Spirit of Aloha show. We paid for Cat. 1 and were seated behind a pole at the end of the table. The food wasn't good. Our waiter got annoyed that we wanted a second drink. He also got annoyed that my son didn't like the food and I asked if they had any other options for kids.

The show itself was very lame, as others have said. My son did enjoy his hula lesson and we all enjoyed the fire dancers. But, I would not go back if it was free. We're trying HDDR this time and paid for Cat. 1 again. I called first thing at 90 days (back when I made my ressies it was still 90), so I hope we'll get good seats.

Hoop Dee Doo was fun... best ribs on the planet! The show was corny, but my kids had fun playing washboards and thought the actors were funny. Food was really, really good.

We have been twice with a group and the first time was ok,(new experience) second time was bored (same show). The above is accurate with the food, average at best. The food is not worth the 2 ADR but the show is ok for a one time viewing. :rolleyes1

From my experience:

Spirit's a show with a slow and cringe-worthy first half but great dancing in the second half. The food's middling, but the setting's real nice. We went on a very cool night and it was lovely. On a warm night, it would've been ever better.

Hoop De Doo is less cringe-worthy but very loud and a tad less comfortable. The food tasted a better but it had ... well, effects ... on us the next day.

I'd recommend either experience for dining plan folks.

The 1st time we went to Spirit of Aloha we went the 1st night having had arrived in the afternoon. For the 1st night, we typically don't go to the theme parks, wanting to get a good night sleep for early the next morning. So we thought this was a great way to kick off the vacation and start the fun. We really liked the food- at the time my kids were 2 and 5, but they're not picky eaters (I think there were chicken, ribs and veggies). We got them drinks with the glowing clip characters and they loved it. The show is a bit slow in the beginning but I think that didn't bother us because we were eating. The kids LOVED the flaming dessert. We also were right in front, which may have made a difference.

We did this show in 2007 while we were at the Poly. At that time we had our 15 and 11 yr old sons with us. It had to be the most corniest show we've ever seen. The storyline was beyond dumb. Wait..was there a storyline? I must say it was the most disappointing thing we've ever experienced at Disney in 14 trips. Even my 11 year old wanted to leave half way thru it. We had a front row table so it wasn't a view issue. Honestly, I think we would have enjoyed a Barney show more. The food was about a 6 on a scale of 1-10. We even vocalized our disappointment to the concierge folks when we returned to the Poly later on that evening (because they asked). I felt like we wasted a lot of money and an entire evening. My whole family said "never again mom do we want to go back to that show". I honestly could not wait for it to end myself.

:worried:

lesson learned for us...

I agree with the previous poster- there really isn't a story line. It's more of a musical/dance review. We did find it entertaining. Different strokes for different folks.
