I searched for a thread on this but don't see one started.

I've been following this story a little bit and it seems odd. Her husband seems very sincere and if he is lying then hes a great actor. But the whole story about the man who comes forward claiming to be a "hostage negotiator" is very strange to me.

I'm curious to know what others think.

I'm not following it, but if it's true I hope they catch the persons involved who did this.
I hope this is not another Tawana Brawley hoax.

I've followed it a little bit and while it does seem very bizarre, nothing has really made me think it was anything but true. The hostage negotiator thing was odd, but I think when you're that desperate, you'll take/try anything and kidnapping for ransom is somewhat common in Mexico etc., not sure if there's any link, but I don't think it's totally unheard of. The whole thing seems insane, but there's ridiculously crazy ppl. in the world and so far I haven't seen any reason to believe it wasn't true, nor to my knowledge have the police said that they thought it was anything but genuine and didn't the husband pass a long polygraph and was interviewed extensively?

Ohhh, it wasn't any of the tears...
I am one who is able to look past that kind of thing.
I am talking the fact that he is even giving such interviews, and certain exact comments and the way he worded some comments.
And, a lot more than that, even.

There are reason's that the authorities have been very very tight-lipped.
This is an ongoing investigation, and I believe they know a lot more than they are releasing.

I only saw a tiny clip of something on the noon news. All I kept thinking was

- why is this guy giving interviews? Shouldn't he be at home comforting his wife and helping her heal both physically and emotionally?

She should come first and save the interviews for later

Yeah, I think there's something "off" about this case.

A lot of misc. comments out there by questionable or un-identified individuals.
I believe that official authorities have said recently that they have not ruled out any suspects.

Everything with this story raises suspicion. My household thinks it is a ‘Gone Girl’ type situation. Nothing about it seems ‘right’.

That's interesting. It does fit the Gone Girl scenario. I guess it's hard to believe that anyone in real life would subject themselves to what sounded like horrendous physical beatings. But there are some crazy people in the world. It will be interesting to see how this unfolds.

I did think it was odd that the husband was even giving interviews so quickly...

The one latest thing that hits me in the gut is how, in that interview, he tells his kids, his son...
"You know what... I found Mom."

"I" found mom.

Makes my blood run cold.
Ice cold chills.

That's a good point. An odd thing for someone to say who knew nothing. I could see a parent saying something like "we found mom" to include the authorities in that statement. And of course, "they found mom." Hmmm....

This case has certainly brought out the conspiracy theorists. One off the wall theory is that her history may have included some white supremacist leanings, and that could have been a motive.

I think I saw that mentioned as well. I've also seen that people think it could be part of a sex trafficking ring.

I've heard the authorities say it "looks" like it may be sex trafficking and they got freaked out at the media attention. If they were afraid of the media attention they would have killed her instead of taking the risk of being caught, IMO. Authorities are also upset that the husband has been giving interviews.

My boyfriend thinks it's a "Gone Girl" situation.

I think the husband is off. I think he may have something to do with it.

I think whatever happened was real, and not a hoax. I am leaning towards the sex trafficking theory (based on the shaved head, beatings, and branding) that she is blond and tiny and the abductors took her thinking she was a teenager, and then didn't know what to do with her when the media attention got to be too much. If that is true, it's a miracle that she's even alive, as it would have been easy for them to just kill her to cover their tracks.

As for the interview, I think the only reason the husband is talking is b/c of the skeptics out there who were saying it was a hoax long before he spoke to the media.

I don't see anything that makes me think the husband was involved. He did pass two polygraphs, too. It's not textbook - two women and she was released - but that doesn't mean it couldn't have happened that way.
