Thoughts on Sci-Fi?

We are going on our first trip May 29th and had heard bad reviews on Sci-Fi. I really wanted to experience it yet not waste a TS credit on it. We scheduled a table for 1:30 and will get shakes and onion rings and pay cash. We can eat lunch (CS) at 11:00, so the kids (6 and 2) will be ready for a snack by 1:30.

We ate there in 2004 and plan on going again this November. My kids and wife all loved it!!

For us, Sci-Fi is a "must go" for every trip! The kids really enjoy it at all ages. Though this upcoming trip, I had the hardest time getting a ADR for there, best of luck!

DW loves to go here but I think it's more for the experience. It is way too expensive to eat here for the same burger you can get at every counter service restaurant in WDW. If it weren't for them accepting the DDE/TIW card I would just fib and say I can't get an ADR there.

Don't get me wrong, I enjoy eating there, but there is far too much "atmoshphere" in WDW to enjoy without paying extra on top of it. If you can get the TIW card I highly suggest it not just for Sci-Fi, it's a great deal.

I can't wait to try sci-fi......... I heard to stick with burgers as that seems to be the best there.......... oh I can't wait!!!! :yay:

We ate there last week and I had the burger and it was good. My nephew had pizza and ate every bite. My nieces had the shrimp pasta dish and while neither complained about it, they didn't finish it. I don't think they were crazy about it. But I did tell them to stick to the burger and sandwiches, but they ordered that anyway. We all loved the dessert. The kids loved the shakes and we all loved the theme and movie clips. It is dark in there. You can hardly see what you are eating. If I have anything negative to say about our experience it is that. I would go there again.

How many can fit in a car? I guess there's a front and back seat...DH and DS will sit in the front, but will 2 adults and a 3 yr old fit in the back seat?

Last time we ate there we did not like it whatsoever. We will never go again. Are food took forever; people next to us with a party of 7 got seated 5 minutes after we ordered and they got their food before us! Are waiter was not friendly either. Overall, it was not a fun experience. :sad2:

Well, DH and I went in 2003...and we LOVED it...so I am not much help...

I do have a 2 year old (turning 3) that I am taking to WDW this summer...and guess what? We have our ADRs...

If you liked it before and your kids are begging, then why not? :confused3

I think it is a cool atmosphere for a 2 year old...my 2 year old loves Cars, he is begging me to see Monsters vs. Aliens (not happening but still :rotfl:)...so I think watching old SciFi clips would be neat for him...maybe the food or service won't be as good as last time, guess we will find that out...

If you read every review basically you would not eat anywhere at WDW :rotfl:

Most of the tables are in the car format, with 3 rows of 2 seats. If that's what you want, you should have no trouble getting it. :) There are plenty.

:confused3 When I made an ADR for Sci Fi earlier this week (for end of April) she was going to give us a table but I asked for a car. She told me there weren't any cars large enough for our party and they would have to split us into two cars. ?? We are 2 adults and 3 kids (4, 5, 7). She said I could ask at the podium when we arrived if they could put us into one car but couldn't guarantee it. So there are different size cars, I take it? If we are split into two, is it likely they will be alongside each other?

Another thing to mention...

There is a certain psychology to writing reviews...

One thing is expectations...if the buzz was great and then the meal was just okay, people will think the meal was bad

Another thing is off nights/off servers...some people get a bad waiter and won't go back

Another is that it is Disney and people expect magic

Another is eating at Disney is expensive so some people expect it the dining to be comparable to outside the World places (for instance, for $22 I can get Sunday brunch at one of the nicest restaurants in Atlanta...I don't expect Tusker House to be the same ::lmao:)

Another thing is positive/negative...most people won't post a middle of the road review...either it was the BEST thing ever or pretty bad...people are MUCH MUCH more likely to post if it was pretty bad than if it was pretty good (it has to be EXCELLENT usually to warrant even thinking about posting)

We were there for dinner two weeks ago and really liked it! Ordered the milkshakes and Onion Rings, which were awesome!! Got the Chicken Sandwich and Burger which were good. We had two birthdays and an anniversary, so they brought out three complimentary hot fudge sundaes (small ones). It is fun!! :yay:

I liked it when we were there in Aug 06. I remember the hamburger being as good as the hamburgers from Red Robin, cant complain about that! Add the atmosphere and you have one cool place to eat.

We ate at Sci-Fi on our January trip. Food was good, standard fare (DH had the steak and enjoyed it, while DS & I both had chicken burgers and onion rings and they were great :thumbsup2). Nothing "spectacular", but good food nonetheless.

Atmosphere was great. We took a couple of tubes of glow bracelets with us, and while we waited for our meal to arrive, we passed them out to the kids in neighbouring cars. DH had a great time spreading a little Disney magic, and the kids were delighted to be "glowing" in the dark.

DS thought the movie clips were corny but fun.

Milkshakes were very, very thick but oh-so-yummy :worship:.

Our server was nothing short of excellent (so kind, so friendly, so attentive). That said, we waited longer to be seated at this restaurant than any other. It was very busy the night we were there.

Here's a pic of me and DS....DH got the seat behind us because he's 6' 4" tall and could easily see over top of me :

I liked it both trips in September 2008 and January 2009. I had a burger the first time and it was great. I had the Beef & Bleu Salad the 2nd time (with Ranch instead of Bleu Cheese) and it was the best steak I've had outside of Le Cellier. I also LOVE the BLT Soup. It is amazing. I would make a trip there, just for that.

Dh and I LOVE SciFi. We have eaten there many times and have always had great food & wonderful service. The atmosphere can't be beat!

Wishing I was there right now with a burger and chocolate milkshake!

Last time we ate there we did not like it whatsoever. We will never go again. Are food took forever; people next to us with a party of 7 got seated 5 minutes after we ordered and they got their food before us! Are waiter was not friendly either. Overall, it was not a fun experience. :sad2:

We had a similar dinner experience. We went in 06 and had an absolute blast, had a great server etc...

This past trip in Aug we went on my Dad's Birthday (and it was sadly his last). Our waitress didn't even say "happy birthday" to my Dad, she only showed up twice, once to take our order, and once to bring our food. I only saw her again when I went looking for her to get our check and ask if we could maybe order desert. She said...and I quote "well we are getting ready to close,..you can have it to go!!!"

Nope, sadly this experience ruined me for Sci_FI from now on.
