Thoughts on Pop Century?

Dh and I honeymooned in WDW last June. We stayed at All Star Music, and we loved it. We were only at the resort to sleep - because we wanted to be in the parks every single minute! So All Star Music worked great for us. The room was clean, had just enough room for us, and a comfy bed.

We're planning on going again in June of 2010. Dh would like to stay at Pop Century for that trip.

Any opinions of Pop Century? How does it differ from what we are used to at All Star Music?

POP is my absolute favorite of all the Disney resorts!!! It's very similar to the All-Star resorts, except for a few changes they made based on customer complaints. Things like lowering the night stand so you don't accidentally hit it while sleeping, lengthening the curtains so no light gets in the room, etc. You get Mickey soap and shampoo at Pop, instead of the dispensers they have at the All-Stars. And, Pop is just plain newer so it's more tidy. You'll have a great time!!

does not share a bus with any other resort.
I like the food court and pools better at Pop than ASMu.
It has more stuff to interest and entertain adults. just go around the place - read the signs and look at the Icons - you will remember!!!
Much better, my opinion, pool bar.

down side
much bigger 2,880 rooms vs 1,920 forgot the new suites 1728 rooms & suites
most people in a smaller space.
food court very busy in the morning.
new toliet and they are loud - so remember to kept the door closed at night

I guess it has been a while since you visited the All Stars.
They elimated the soap dispensers at All the All Stars during the summer of 2005.

I don't know if the OP was in a refurbished room at All Star Music last June but all of the rooms at the All Star Music have been refurbished and the issues you have adreesed have been answered at new rooms at All Star Music including a curved shower rod in the bath to give added space and a privacy curtain between the sleeping area and the vanity so you use it as a dressing area.

Pop doesn't share buses. Their bus service is the best, IMO.

The music and giant icons are great. It's just a fun resort. I'm in a great mood the whole time I'm there. I love the 70's building. When I walk out in the morning and hear that music, it's just fun!

I have to kind of chuckle at this...I remember all the threads about how to make a makeshift privacy curtain - I think it was - using plastic trash bags and magnets
or something like that. (or maybe it was blue poster putty?)

I'm glad Disney responded to the requests. It seems like such a simple thing.

My DBF and I were at POP in Jan. It was our first time in a Value resort (his first time on property) and we loved it. It was just the two of us and we had more then enough room and it was rather quiet. No bathroom noise or outside noise. We had an end room so that might of been part of the reason. We will surly stay at POP again

I totally enjoyed my stay at Pop last year! It's a great resort for kids and kids at heart to walk around and enjoy all the fun stuff they put up all over the place!

POP is by far my favorite Value. I would definitely suggest it. Word of warning, though, I would say it's worth requesting a preferred room. Otherwise, you can end up VERY far away from the main Hall. Otherwise, it's a great place, and it's very cool to walk around the lake area.

Here is a list of differences between the two resorts.

Pop is newer.
Pop was built in 2003.
All Star Movies was built in 1999.
All Star Sports and Music were built in 1994.

All Star Musicjust finished undergoing a refurbishment of all of the rooms and was completed inJune 2007.


All Star Sports is slated to be refurbished between June 2007 and of Febuary of 2008.

Pop has a lake. The All Stars do not have a lake.

When staying at the All Stars you use any of the All Stars pools.
The 3 All Stars are within easy walking distance of each other.

The gift shops are separate from the food court at the All Stars.
The gift shop and food court are combined at Pop.

Pop has 2,880 guest rooms. 4 floors in each building.
Each of the All Stars has 1,960 rooms. 3 floors in each building.

Both Pop and the All Star rooms are 260 square feet.

The beds at the All Stars are movable.

the beds at Pop at bolted to the floor.

The far bed at an All Star is closer to wall. And the near bed is not as close to the doorway as it is at Pop

The far bed at Pop is pulled away from the wall more. The near bed is closer to door.

For most people that would not make a difference but since I need an ECV
the bed being so near the door at Pop makes it more difficult for me to back my EVC in.

We LOVE Pop! Unfortunately, it was sold out for our September trip so we're staying @ ASMo. We've stayed at Pop only twice, but are already planning a 2008 trip there.

My husband and I love Pop. We'll be back in about 2 weeks

We've stayed 3 times, and have never had any problems staying there. I can't compare it to All Stars, but it's a great resort! The food court has tons of choices, the icons are lots of fun to look at, there is a lake with a walkway around it, the bus service is good, and you can't beat the price

From everything I've read it's similar to all stars in size, so that won't be any big suprise to you. It's a lot of fun to walk around the resort-there are tons of picture taking opportunities!

Generally people who don't like Pop prefer deluxes, where the rooms are bigger, there are balconies, sit down restaurants, etc. If you're not worried about those frills, check out Pop-and have a slice of Tie-Dyed cheesecake, do the twist and the hustle, and play a game on an enormus Twister board. It's so much fun!

My wife and I love everything Pop. The rooms, pools, food court, gift shop, and everything else are great. We have stayed 3 times and will stay there again, no question about it. I stayed at the All Star Movie in 2004, and it was fun, but it just didn't compare to the Pop. My biggest plus for Pop was that it has it's own bus where the 3 All stars share one. Hi, we're planning on staying at the POP next year for 6/7 days followed by 5 days at POFQ or POR.

Looking at the allears link, I think I prefer the POP room and decor. also like the fact it has a lake and its own bus service.
HOWEVER,

I really like the theming of the AS Music, and the pools.


I just wondered is POP noisy at Easter vacation? We're leaving 12/3 to stay until 25/3.
When is USA Easter or does it differ from State to State?

As mum coming with us, I'm also now considering the family suites referred to in AS Music.
Does anyone have a picture of the family suites? I have seen the layout on this thread but no pics.

1 last question. In the evening, is there a bar at the AS music or POP where mum and I can have a quick 'nightcap'/drink before heading off to bed and is DS (aged 10) allowed in?
Age/time restrictions in USA Disney???

I would say POP, we have stayed at ASMu twice and POP twice, I really like the atmosphere at POP much more that AS, we haved stayed in the 50's pool side which was a bit loud, but the kids loved being so close. Even the walk to the food court/bus stops wasn't too far. The last trip we were in the 60's building overlooking the lake, it was awesome and very, very quiet. I am hoping for the same on our next trip to POP. I also think the POP buses are fantastic. Although I did like AS if I had the choice I would pick POP any time.
