Thoughts on Kona Cafe and Captain's Grille.

Kind of excited to be able to have lunch/ dinner at these two restaurants. Last year we either ate at the restaurants in the park, or back at the Pop Century food court. The menu looks great for both, what are some of your pros/cons for both of them. We also will have lunch at Rainforest Cafe on our AK day, my son is a picky eater, so it will have to make do, but it does look pretty nice inside.

Captain's Grille is a hidden gem IMO. We had one of our best Disney meals of all time here a couple years ago and I've been back again since and enjoyed it again. Nothing much to the ambiance/decor, but the food was really good. Kona I've only done breakfast and we enjoyed that as well, but went in with expectations that were too high perhaps. The Tonga Toast wasn't all it was cracked up to be IMO.

RFC is fun, but we stopped going after the last couple of meals we had there. It's a chain and the food reflects that.

Two cents:

We've had better meals at Kona than Capt. Grille.

I'm no expert, but travel to/from Monorail Loop Resorts may be marginally easier than Boardwalk to/from Pop Century.

I am not sure about lunch or dinner but I can tell you that Kona has my favorite breakfast of all time. I dream about those macadamia-pineapple pancakes and I can't wait to go back for more. We had breakfast wit 6 adults and 2 kids and not a complaint.

Kona is wonderful for breakfast! The Samoan is amazing and if you're feeling super hungry and want something truly Hawaiian order the loco moco, nothin like burgers, gravy and carbs in the AM!!

Loved our Captains Grill lunch, was nice to get out of Epcot a bit. My son was picky too but by using the "leave this off and substitute American cheese for some other kind" had a nice grilled chicken sandwich with yummy desserts.
Can't wait to try Kona lunch for the island chicken sandwich. They have burger there for picky ones.
Didn't care for rainforest, well I guess it was alright, a place to eat, but as another said, a chain.

We did Kona for dinner on our last trip and the good was good. Service was good too.

Thanks for all the input. We are going to Kona Cafe for dinner our first night there. I was able to get rez for 'Ohana, but not till 9:45 PM. Since we fly out our home airport at 5:30 am, most likely will cancel it, just keeping it around just in case there are other cancellations. And looking forward to lunch at Captain's Grille, it will be a nice break in out Epcot day! As far as RFC, as long as they have steak, I'm good. :earboy2:
