Hi Everyone,

I am contemplating purchasing a new point and shoot camera (dont really have the time to learn how to use something else) and was wondering if anyone here had used this camera before and what their thoughts were. I don't really know what to look for but would like something that has a great zoom feature and would take nice night shots (fireworks, light parade, disney at night). If you have any suggestions on another camera I would love to hear them if you haven't any info on this particular camera. Any help/suggestiosn would be greatly appreciated. (At present I have a powershot A95 and am very disappointed with the speed in which the camera takes the shot, night shots and the zoom so I am looking for something that will do a better job). Thanks again!!!

Unfortunately, on low light shots with motion, you are not going to find a p&s that will do much better than your A95. Your's already has a 1/1.8" sensor, which is about as big as they get on a p&s. There are some Fujis with a 1/1.6" sensor, but I doubt you will get much improvement.

For no motion night shots and fireworks, go with a tripod and you should be fine with what you have.

Keep in mind that until you get to a true professional camera, there are still auto modes. My Pentax K100D DSLR has many scene modes and a full auto mode. If low light shots are really important, there is currently no other option but a DSLR.

Hi Everyone,

The A95 is 2 or 3 generation out of date!

Consider the current model the A710 IS which includes Image Stabilization that will help in night shots.

Please do not take this as me picking on you, but I have a comment on this in the interest of the OP's needs. IS does help with low light as long as the subject is not moving. I just do not want the OP to think that IS is a magic bullet. For motion shots, you have to use a shutter speed fast enough that the IS is no longer needed. For fireworks, you need a tripod no matter what camera you have. Also, IS should be turned off for fireworks. For reference, I do have two cameras with IS (S2 and K100D) and I do believe it is a nice feature to have.

The A710 is a nice camera, but I do not believe it is going to deliver what the OP is looking for. The smaller sensor on it will likely mean more image noise than the A95 at high ISOs. It is likely more responsive though being a little newer. Given that zoom is also a desire, the only model that comes to my mind in the p&s lineup is the Fuji S6000fd. It has a larger sensor and a good zoom range.
