Thoughts on home warranties in general and ARWplans.com specifically?

What are your thoughts on home warranties? My dad saw arwplans.com advertised on tv and said I should take a look. We replaced our fridge and dishwasher last year, but we just had a repair on our a/c that the tech said is nearing the end of its life.

I know that if someone sounds too good to be true, then it usually is. And I also know that in most cases, it's the insurance/warranty company that's going to come out on top, leaving the consumer less than cheerful. But the peace of mind would be nice, y'know? I tried looking up arwplans.com specifically on google (looking for reviews) but I only found ones that were so glowing and similar that I almost think the company wrote them itself. Just curious if anyone has tried warranties and if they worked out for you.

TIA! :)

We have a home warranty through Old Republic and have been pretty happy with them. We pay $400 a year (spread out in 12 payments). Just over the past two years, we have gotten a new water heater and new furnace through them, not to mention some smaller plumbing repairs. Our A/C is getting pretty old-- we're going to keep the warranty until that goes because there's no way we could afford to just replace it out of pocket.
