Thoughts on HM's storyline and ride changes

While listening to the HM's original full attraction soundtrack on my iPod, I noticed that the popup ghosts during the attic scene all say "I DO!" in their own individual variation. I know there's been some debate on this, but I can say that at least for a good while, they all said that. With the new changes to the bride and the addition of suitors' portraits (headless IIRC from a previous post) and the bride's axe, it could very well be that originally the bride HAD been intended as a murderer, and these new changes are being implemented to help strengthen that storyline from what became known as the popular story; being that the bride had been murdered by her intended groom when she was seen in the attic with the never-used Hatbox ghost (sure be cool if they can put him in now that they can do the effect right), then the groom hangs himself, and that the popup ghosts were the ghosts of the wedding party members. Another variation of the original was that the groom simply hanged himself when he saw the bride and Hatbox ghost together, and the bride died of a broken heart after that. And of course another that's the same as the second, only the bride actually WAS having an affair.

Just a few thoughts and late night ramblings from yours truly :teeth:

I like the strengthened story line.....especially since it is bringing new effects.I do think the ride is becoming scarier.

I think the fan's attempts at creating a backstory was fun, but Disney de facto has the "official version" even if it is a little late unfolding.

I like it too. Especially since it seems like they're trying to bring out what they originally wanted the story to be.

Though back in the early planning stages for the attraction, there was supposed to be an appearance by the Headless Horseman at the end, which I'd give my left eye to see (it's okay, that's my nearly blind one :teeth: ).

We rode it yesterday and I like the changes. I liked it when they changed the pop-up ghosts to saying "I do"! I hated that originally they jumped up and screamed!! :scared1:

Just went on the ride today (Twice in a row!) and just have to say...WOW! Quite a few changes I noticed...

1. Pictures in hallway no longer just switch between 'scary' and 'normal' anymore. The lightning strikes and you get a quick view of the opposite picture. Anyone notice Master Gracey is up there now...or am I just whacked and forgot he was always there.

2. Madam Leota floats in midair! No more table sitting for her. I thought it was cool.

3. The attic sequence is just fantastic now. Phantom piano player is still neat as usual. The added wedding gifts and decor gives it so much more ambiance. There are 5 wedding pictures now that fade in and out...anyone notice that the husbands heads disappear in some pictures? And every single one of them does it too!

4. And lastly, the bride. The effects are so neat now that she deserves her own number. She's so much scarier now than being a statue before with a glowing red light. Oh...and the axe! Eerie!!!!!

Sorry for my enthusiasm, just really excited to see the changes made, and hope to see a bit more!

i dont get it, the last 2 times i was at disneyland were the end of september and both times it was the nightmare before chriztmas crap, i hated it, were they just doing that cause halloween was coming up, do they do the real haunted mansion anymore, i hope so

Hi :wave2:
The "Nightmare Before Christmas" Haunted Mansion, is run from late Sept to right after the first of the year. Then they turn it back into the original.
My favorite ride and I love both. I'm going next thursday to see the updates, can't wait. :car:

Sooz :flower:

Oh all this Haunted Mansion talk is making me look forward to my Memorial Day weekend trip.! We love the haunted mansion! :hmghost:

My dd, Kelly, & I just got home from a visit - after reading this thread I told her, "Let's go to DL," and she said, "Okay." So we went. :teeth:

Love the new effects. I tried to film it, but I think it was just too dark.

I like the new attic changes, and look forward to seeing the new (rumoured)tricks in the seance room and anything else WDI can dream up to 'plus' the Haunted Mansion. WDI gets cheers from me so far based on the attic!!
I'm a huge fan of Haunted Mansion Holiday also. So DDS and Steven Davison get my thank you's and cheers every year too! :wizard: :worship:

That's too bad it was too dark to film. I'd love to see what tht portraits and the new bride look like.

I so hope they put in the hatbox ghost at some point. I've always kept hope in the back of my mind that they can get the effect right and put him in (but then he'd be the thousandth ghost!!)

I rode HM with it's new effects for the second time last night. It seemed to me that Master Gracey's body hanging in the stretching room was swinging around more than it did previously. Also, I didn't notice the first time that in the attic, all the men in the portraits are different. Looks like we have a serial killer bride on our hands.

I was sad to see the Mansion portrait taken out .. but seeing a Master Gracey portrait is nice. Was there this AM, but didn't notice him swinging anymore than normal. I'll have to pay closer attention next time. All the portraits are different, and so is the chinaware. Can't rave enough about the attic changes.

I have been to DL many times and I must admit I have never really paid close attention to the Haunted Mansion ride. I enjoy the ride, but never really thought about a story being told. That being said after reading this and other threads, I paid a little more attention this time and did notice many changes. I am quite intrigued and want to learn more about the storyline.

The Master Gracey portrait was added in early 2005 I think (when Leota started floating), and when all of the hallway portraits changeovers started occuring quickly along with the lightning flashes, and not the previous slower morphing, like the new attic portraits do now.

The Haunted Mansion Holiday Nightmare portraits still morph slowly.
And Madame Leota doesn't float for HMH.

I loved the changes!! I got to ride twice this past week and the changes were great.
