Thoughts on DVC

I was just wondering with 109,000 members the "club" was gotten very large! How many Dis members look at their membership as a true club, and how many just consider it a timeshare and a way to vacation.

I know many get all excited over the mailings, talking to their guides - almost giving them "godlike" status, cant wait for mixers, wouldn't consider not going on a member cruise and making all the member year end meetings.

Then there are other members that have no clue whats going on other than the fact they own a DVC timeshare and can stay in Disney!

I fit somewhere between a couple of those choices. We do treat it as a timeshare, but we also like to plan around some of the events offered like the Holiday Mixer.

It is always fun to meet others Disers who are also DVC members!!!!

My husband and I bought it as an investment and our love of Disney to leave behind to our son. We were spending so much money going every year and we enjoy the deluxe resorts we decided to buy. We do not attend any of the meetings, functions, etc. but we do use our discounts where applicable.

Did not vote because I agree with Diane. It is both club and timeshare for us.

I went with the second option bcs we do so little of the other activities (mixers, parties etc.). Now I would be inclined to go to some of them and mix with my fellow DVCers, but DW thinks that it's too close to being a Cult or wacky sect (with Walt as our very own L. Ron Hubbard, perhaps ). She's one of those retiring, reserved New Englanders, rather than the cheerful and outgoing Disney fan types, like her husband. She seem to have made her peace with being a part of DVC, but treading softly about the Club activities and opther DVC farfare is probably good for my marriage.

It's still way more than just a timeshare, despite my answer on the poll.

I actually didn't vote, because I would love to be involved in it all, but money and time constraints make that impossible. But, it is much more than a timeshare.

I know a fair amount of people who have a timeshare and "give away" the week they own because they "just couldn't get away" this year. It would kill me to do that, so DVC is more than a timeshare.

I don't schedule my vacations around DVC, but DVC seems to schedule their events at times that I just can't get away. Can't get to a Merry Mixer again this year, we're there Friday to Wednesday.

However, this is the 4th year that I've been able to share a Dis Christmas tree, so Disboards are a perfect companion to DVC!

Bobbi I don't know how to vote, but I'm thinking about it.

DVC is sooooo much more than just a time share. Disney has a way of making you feel like your part of a special group or family. There are so many ways of enjoying DVC through cruises, other resorts, discounts, events, etc.

We are new members as of August and being from Washington, I would LOVE to be able to be more involved in attending the various events. (I practically drool when I read all of the great reports, such as the Disney DVC Cruise!) Also, as a teacher, I'm confined to a calendar as to when we can take our vacations. I devour the quarterly magazine and e-mail updates!! We're looking forward to our 1st stay at SSR next summer. Yea!!

I voted just a timeshare. The member events are just perks of the timeshare in my eyes. It isn't the reason I bought DVC. I bought DVC for the vacation end of things. Everything else is a nice bonus.

It's kind of in the middle for me. It is nice to have that "club" feeling but I did buy because of the accomodations. The rest just makes DVC special and sets it apart from other timeshares.

I voted that we like the club feel, but we did buy it for a place to stay. We bought it in early 2000 and I don't think there were very many events back then.

Since then we have done 3 member cruises, member homecoming, and a merry member mixer. We loved them all! It is great getting to meet not only other DVC members (especially when they are DISers) but also the DVC staff.

We've only had to change plans once and that was for Member Homecoming where we had plans for early May and changed to the late May dates for the homecoming. We do like planning for the special events but they are always something new and that is what we try whenever we head to WDW - to do something new!

I voted true club. We have only had on DVC vacation so far and are looking forward to our next. The kids loved all the activities around the pool and at the club house. At this time we would not plan our vacation around any activities but you never know what will happen in the future.

We certainly don't think of it as a club. It is our timeshare to do whatever we want to. We try always to take a vacation each year and include different friends or family each year. My husband enjoys all the mailings throughout the year and I enjoy the DISboards. We never think about attending any meetings because we are so limited on our days as we work every other day that we are not on vacation. Owning your own business does not allow days off. In 2 years our youngest son will graduate from high school and we will be alone for the first time in 29 years. Since our oldest son is helping with the business we are not sure if our vacations will change. We will not be tied to that spring break week which is always a little challenging. We've never let spring break bother us because we've been there so many times that we are never on a schedule. That is the beauty of DVC, it allows you to come and go as you wish.

Another DVC'er who is in the middle. We go when we can and if there is a special activity, we would probably attend. So far the times we are there are times when there is not a special event or activity. But, .........

We do love our DVC because it allows us to vacation more often and at a place we both enjoy.

And I didn't vote.

I guess I'm in the middle too. We happened to be at BWV while a welcome home Wednesday was going on , and we had no plans , so we went .


At least I'm not the guy from my work who owns dvc ( bought 8 years ago)
and always tells me when he's going home to Fort Wilderness Lodge .

After spending all that money ,at Least get the NAME right would yah!!!
