Ok...so I realize Aug is hot and hurricane season...been there, done that...but it's been a while. I'd really like to try to swing a 4 day trip over my 30th birthday. My worry lies more with hurricane season. We want to go the 20-23. We want to rent DVC points. What are precautions I can take? Am I crazy to book? Advice? Comments? Thanks so much!

If you are crazy then I am too. We will be there August 4th through the 12th and I can not wait. Sure we would rather go in November or October, but we just cant due to my dh's visitation schedule through the court for our sds. I plan on having a blast anyway! :cool1:

Count me in with all the other nut cases  . We've got a 11 day trip planned for 8/23, which is later in the season. I'm trying hard not to wish my days away until August.

Did August last year and going back a gain this year. SOme people that I have talked with that went through a hurricane at Disney felt it was the best Disney trip they had. 1. The resorts pull out all the stops to make you feel comfortable while waiting it out. 2. The crowds go way down just before and few days after (scares people away) 3. Disney is built for Hurricanes and their grounds crew does a great job at getting back on line very quickly.

So GO GO GO GO

It's Central Florida, not the coast. Worse case the parks close for a day, maybe 2. Most likely if there is a nearby hurricane you will just have a lot of rain. On the bright side -- many people will not go to the parks, so less crowds and waiting in line! We will be there Aug 15-20 for our honeymoon, so I'm just crossing my fingers and asking everyone to pray that we will have good weather. If not, hey at least we are at Disney World and not at home! :) I'm actually more worried about it being HOT HOT HOT!

My good friend survived the Oct. hurricane that went through and everything was just fine. I just get nervous about air travel getting messed up as well as DVC getting messed up, which is another post for another board!

We can usually only go in late August/early September, as that is when my DH can take a vacation. We have never ran into a problem. The worst weather we had were some days of heavy rainfall, and even then we just wore rain ponchos and toured the parks anyway.

We are going Aug 22-29 and the "H" word has been banned from our house :rotfl: The weather was a serious consideration for us and influenced our hotel choice. Being a DVC member we wanted to stay in a resort that was connected to a hotel. Just in case. My DSIL was at SSR for a hurricane and basically was confined to their room. They managed to sneak out and was amazed at how much fun guests at the Beach Club were having.

If you want to play it safe, get trip insurance.

That being said, we always go in Aug. Last year we were there when Katrina was forming. Other then rain, everything was fine.

Nearly every time we have gone there has been a hurricane forming or one that just passed through. We've been lucky and have never actually been there *during* a hurricane.
