Thoughts on a Poly studio in May for a non-Poly family of 5?

We're BWV owners staying at VGF (1 bedroom) for the first time in May. We had to change our dates slightly so we have 5 nights lake view and 2 nights standard view. We're waitlisted to try to get in the same room the whole time but it hasn't come through yet. Since it looks like we'll have to move rooms, we're considering trying a Poly studio if available when the booking window opens on Wednesday....just so we can check it out. We like having a full kitchen and washer/dryer but we're thinking a studio wouldn't be bad for 2 nights especially since they're pretty big. Thoughts on switching to Poly while some construction is going on and thoughts on us actually being able to get the reservation? Thanks!

It's anyone's guess whether there will be available rooms when they open up the PVB for non-owner booking in a couple of days--some argue there will be plenty of availability while others are just as certain there won't be. As for the actual studio itself, I've not seen the model in person, but for my tastes I wouldn't like to put five in a studio that appears to have very little storage (much like the VGF studios). We like our space, and we don't need a split bath. However, if you're the type family that spends most of the day and evening in the parks and out of the room, and if the split bath appeals to your needs (three kids!), then you may as well try. You can survive anything for two days. ;)

Wed on phone w/ member services is going to be absolutely crazy. You might get the Poly.

It's also likely that you could release your already booked room and not be able to get the poly either. And since there are going to be tons of people online trolling for dropped reservations, my guess is that if you drop the old one, it will be snatched up in seconds.

So, if you don't get the Poly, have a backup plan, because there's a good chance your old ressie will be gone.

If you think you want to try it out then I'd say 2 days in May would be as good as any. As Sleepy says you can survive anything for 2 days! :)

And if you're able to book right when the window opens and are ok with either the LV or the standard studio I think you'll most likely get the reservation. In May I'm kind of expecting that Mothers Day weekend and Memorial Day weekend will be the most difficult but it's just a guess.

If you have enough points to book without cancelling the VGF reservation, than I would go for it. If you have to cancel the 2 day reservation, I would not risk it because of what ziravan mentioned. I would hate to give up a VGF reservation, not get the PVB reservation, and have someone grab the VGF reservation before I could get it back.

May has several weekends to be weary of. As KAT4DISNEY mentions, Mother's Day and Memorial Day.
Star Wars Weekends also starts the weekend after Mother's Day.

I have been able to call Member services and they have held the one room while they cancelled the other room I already had. This may have been a fluke but that is always worth a try if the room is available at PVB.

I have heard that is possible but has only happened here and there. Just hypothesizing here but it might be technically possible but not every CM is aware of how to or has situational awareness of looking out for the member that way.

Now, add in the melee of Wed, and I would think that holding a ressie would be less likely.

Certainly I'd ask for a confirmation that they'd hold the current one while grabbing the new one. Can't hurt to ask. But, if you've been on the phone for an hour hoping to snag the Poly, my guess is that if they can't/won't/dont't know how, most people are going to throw the dice at that moment and try for the pixie dust they were holding on the phone for so long to see sprinkled.

I've been told each time I've switched at 7 months that they (CM) would not hold both rooms and would I be OK if I lost both reservations...the original one when released and someone else snatched the one I was trying to book. I always hold my breath. My DD is going to try to move our four night trip in late September, but I know once she releases our BCV during F&W it'll be gone, so we have a few back up resorts in mind, just in case.

With you on this one!
I've had MS tell me my rom was gone. Then they got a supe and somehow I got the room. Now, not taking any chances unless I know I can get something I would be satisfied with.

Unless software changed recently, most CM's at MS can not hold inventory, they do not advertise this but will usually act like they can. Some managers and team line CM's do have the ability to hold inventory.

We lost a reservation that was supposedly held while the CM tried to work with some transferred points.

We made someone very happy...we wait listed a lake view at the Poly and the next day it came through for late September. We released our BCV studio which was gone within the hour.
