I want to plan a Pumpkin War for my two DD 's (12,8) and their friends...just for fun.

DH were thinking outdoor pumpkin carving, decorating, then using the guts for a war. A messy, fun war!

Never done this before, but it sure sounds like fun. Can I get some impartial opinions, tips and thoughts? How would you go about planning and implementing it?

Thanks, and happy fall!

I would buy prizes and have categories for winners like best pumpkin, worst pumpkin, most creative, and who got the messiest.

Are you sure the parents will be OK with it? I know I don't mind my kids getting messy but some parents do. Though not sure about pumkin in girls hair unless you are providing shower caps.

Or you could roast the pumpkin seeds.

Look for ideas on Pinterest. I am sure there are some out there.

For a Halloween party when my DD was 12 they really enjoyed the crafty type stuff. My daughter would have been mortified to have slimy stuff all over her costume at 12. Now at 15 she'd probably love it, but all kids are different. Might especially be tough if the kids are wearing costumes they need to wear again for another event.

Activities that were a hit at our party...

We ordered plain white duckies from oriental trading and they decorated them with sharpies

We mounted wooden balls from ac Moore onto sticks and they painted eye balls

We had a treasure search in a kiddie pool filled with sand, but we called it a cat litter box and bought new cat scoops. They were timed to sift through looking for treats but we also had tootsie rolls slightly melted in the microwave and reshaped to look like the cats had really used it. The reactions were priceless.

By far the favorite was the candy hunt outside in the dark. We got cheapie Halloween flashlights for the kids to search the grounds for candy, and adults were out in the dark as zombies to be avoided.

Of course the usual wrap someone as a mummy too, they enjoyed that as well.

Will it be warm where you live? We had a "messy party" for my son last year and the kids loved it. Maybe some can be adapted to a pumpkin theme? We had: messy twister (maybe spread some canned pumpkin on it?) a messy relay, egg toss, watermelon seed spitting (you could have some roasted seeds), blindfolded face painting (you could do that with a Halloween theme) Cheetos toss (one kid wore a shower cap covered with shaving cream and another kid threw Cheetos at them and tried to ger them to stick), eat the gummy bears out of the whipped cream without using their hands, a few more I'm not thinking of.. And a huge food fight.

It depends on the kids. My son and his friends loved it (11) but his sister (13) took a long time before she loosened up and joined in.

Have fun! I didn't have any resistance from parents.. But most did think I was nuts. :confused3
