Thought I might give you an update on my Dad

Some of you know what's going on with my dad and have been keeping him in your thoughts and prayers (for that I can't thank you enough). :grouphug:

As some of you know, he was hospitalized Dec 14th for shortness of breath and actually stopped breathing on my mother twice. He was admitted to ICU for 6 days with double pneumonia. Then he had a spell of the shortness of breath and they finally diagnosed that as congestive heart failure (my grandmother has this also...so hereditary?!?) He stayed in the hosiptal for 12 days and then we brought him to a rehab unit in a nursing home because he couldn't even cut his meat. He stayed there for 2 weeks and it did a world of good. He got his appetite back and now goes like a bat out of hell walking down the hall. We brought him home on January 11th and finally celebrated Christmas on January 17th (a little late but hey he's here!)

He is now back on his cancer medications (was off since all this happened and hadn't had the IV Infusion since November) and we went to the doctor last week. Before he went the doctor had him do a 24 hr urine test and he told us there wasn't any protein in his urine (Yea!) and that the myeloma is doing well (if cancer can do well). He still wants him to see the Chief of Oncology at Westchester but says that he might not have to have the stem cell transplant. As long as he (the doc) is staying positive so are we.

The biggest problem my father is having is since all his vertebre are fractured, his back is collapsing and he is shrinking. He used to be almost 6 feet tall and he is now my height (5' 2"). That kills me to see him like that but he has a wonderful personality and keeps us all laughing.

I'd just like to thank all my family on the DIS and say please continue to keep us in your prayers. You are all so special!

Thanks for the update. for you. I will keep your father and your family in my prayers.

He has been doing well on all the new and old medications - just keeping our fingers crossed. But now his blood pressure has been low but we believe this is from the new meds. Thanks for the continued prayers.

Thanks for giving us an update. I'm glad to hear your father is doing better. I'm continuing my prayers for him.
