Hi everyone! We are leaving for Disney on Sunday morning. I have a quick question for those with the Ergo Baby Carrier.

My DS is 8 months old, he doesn't like to be carried in the front with this carrier but does like to be on my back. I have not tried the hip yet, plan to figure out how to use it on the hip before we leave.

My question is, if you have used the ERGO while at disney - how do you carry the baby while waiting in lines for rides and what did you do once you were getting on the ride. Did the baby stay in the carrier or do you take him/her out and hold the baby on your lap.

We have never gone to disney with a baby and I thought I had everything figured out but it just dawned on me that I wouldn't be able to ride a ride with the baby on my back.

I used an Ergo carrier for my 18 month old daughter last year. I kept her in the front for the lineups and then kept her attached on the front for most rides (especially if she was sleeping). If there was an attraction that was of particular interest to her, I removed her just before getting on the ride so she could see everything. In those cases, I still "wore" the Ergo so I could put her back easily after the ride (if needed). The Ergo worked really well for us in situations where strollers couldn't go. I don't think I ever put her on my back.

I pop them in and out of the carrier for each ride. That way they are seated in the more usual fashion, or on my lap depending on the age. I loved my Ergo for standing in lines. If you're going with other people, don't worry about having babe on your back, they can still see family and snuggle you just fine.

My daughter was 17 mo when I used it, so I only had her in there in the front when she was sleepy/sleeping. If she was nodding off, I just kept her in, but if she perked up I probably would have taken her out. I don't have the Ergo that does a hip carry, so don;t know how that one would work.

If you have him on your back you're going to have to have someone take him down each time. And you're going to have to watch him *carefully* to make sure he isn't getting sleepy and letting his head fall back. I didn't have an Ergo when DS was that little but I'd wear him in the podegi MIL gave me (only around the house, though...the word means "blanket" and it truly is like wrapping a blanket around yourself if you get a traditional one like the one she gave me) and wore him in various wraps on my back, and you had to be aware of when they are getting tired.

Question about his dislike of being on your front...when you've tried it, do you get out and walk *immediately*? i don't know if you've been wearing him since he arrived or if this is just since last week, so forgive if I assume the "worst"...many times when people say their babies hate being worn, it's because they put baby into the sling, then just stand around. That drives many babies nutty. They need to have action. They need to get out and see all there is to see from chest-height. So if you haven't done it already, get yourself completely ready to go, get him ready to go, get him in the Ergo on your front (facing you, just in case you're a completely beginner and were trying to wear him like many people use Bjorns) and GET OUTSIDE.

DS loved being worn like that, b/c he could see people behind me and interact with them. People loved that b/c they could pull all sorts of crazy faces without doing it right in MY face. DS got so much enjoyment out of that, LOL. I'd be in line somewhere and he'd start cracking up b/c some adult was doing googly eyes at him...something they wouldn't do if he was facing the same way I was. It was so funny.

Anyway, try that if you haven't already, see if it makes a difference. And even if it doesn't make a difference here, still try it at WDW. So much to see there, and when he doesn't want to look anymore he can put his head against you and close his eyes, relax a bit.

Then again, there are benefits to back-carries! Namely, when you get really hot, give baby a cup of water and let baby drop it down your back. Then again most people don't give under-1s extra water, so that might look funny,ha ha. But yeah, I remember the icewater baths I used to get at festivals when I'd pass the water back to my 1-2 year old! Ah, memories...and to think, nowadays I don't want him to spill on me!:rotfl:
