I was there 7 years ago and had no problem getting in to the parks after 7 pm....has anybody had any experience of being shut out of EPCOT on NYE prior to 7pm...

We are thinking of eating on the boardwalk...but won't do it if there is a chance of getting shut out..

I was there 1998-1999 NYE. We stayed off site that year and by 10 AM EPCOT was the only park that wasn't closed due to capacity. We stayed there the whole day, so I can't really answer your question about going to another place and coming back in the evening. But I can tell you it was a FABULOUS party. We had the best time, but I see you know that already! Personally, I don't think I would want to take the chance, unless there is an exceptional opportunity for you at the other place?

JMHO,

Lori
PS: I turned 40 this year, too, but I didn't get to do it at WDW!
Best Wishes:)

I thought that as long as you were a resort guest you didn't get shut out. Does that no longer apply? We were thinking of doing Epcot this year but possibly doing La Nouba first. I might have to reconsider. We have only done MGM on New Years and ususally head over around 7:00- 7:30. No problem getting in.

I can't swear to this information but we were there three years ago and were told that if your staying on property and have a multi day park hopper pass that you've already been using then you will always be admitted to a park. However I'm sure that I read somewhere that there are times when the parks do close to everyone. When we were there the park was very crowded but not close to capacity but I think that's because it was so cold. Got down into the 30's. But we had a wonderful time anyway. We're from Michigan so we had all our winter outer clothes with us and a blanket for the little one in the stroller. But I have to agree that it might be safest to get there early and plan on staying all day.

Last year I worked at Innoventions in Epcot on NYE and there was no problem. Yes, the park was very crowded, but Epcot is the largest park and so it usually never fills up on NYE. I wouldn't worry about it at all. Go at whatever time you need to and have fun!! Be sure to catch the special midnight show of Illuminations---it is NOT the same as the 9:00 show as some people believe. If you have any other questions about Epcot on NYE, just ask!

Thanks Alyssa...that's what I thought just wanted someone else to say it too...

Thanks for the thread. Zurgswife.

We have a PS at both Tapenyaki and Cape May Cafe for NYE and now I can just see where my group wants to eat and decide without having to worry if we can get back into the park.

Could someone please tell me what is done differently on New Years as opposed to any other day of the year? We were there one New Years (I think it was 2002) and all I remember is getting hats and noisemakers while we waited for Illuminations. I didn't notice much of anything else being different.

Of course it is ALWAYS wonderful and magical for us in EPCOT...lol.

I can't wait...I'll be there this Tuesday and Wednesday! Then I have to go to my daughters to rehearse The Importance of Being Earnest for 3 weeks, then a 5 day cruise (not Disney, but still fun!)...and then back to Disney for a week with a wonderful group of my friends from Iowa for a week (Halloween! Oct 30 - Nov 6)...then the play opens for 2 weeks...then back to Disney for a week!

...er, is my preoccupation and love for Disney showing? *blush*

Oldest DD and I were at NYE at MK 2000/01 and DH and I were at Epcot this past NYE (2002/03).
I don't remember if we got anything under our door at the resort this year, but the year DD and I went, there was an information sheet put under our door when we got up the morning of NYE day. What I remember it said was what is stated above, but the trick is that you will be admitted to a park, not necessarily the park of your choice. It said if you wanted to make sure you got into a specific park, to get there by noon and stay at that park. I don't think that is important if you plan to go to Epcot, but it is if you are planning to go to MK or the Studio, which have smaller capacity.
The year DD and I went, I know that MK closed to all guests at some point. The next day, we heard people talking who had gotten on a bus that was supposed to go to MK. On the way there, the bus driver got a message that it was full and their bus was diverted to Epcot. We got to MK about 11am. It was crowded, but still lots of fun. There were extra shows and bands on the stages, a regular Spectomagic parade in the evening and then the fireworks at midnight that were shot off from all parts of the park, not just Fantasyland. Really cool.
Last year, DH and I went to Epcot. There was entertainment in each country (bands, DJs). It was not very crowded at all. We ended up leaving to walk back to YC about 7 because it was pouring rain. Even with ponchos we were soaked. We planned to go back to the park later on, but never did (It's hard to go back out in the pouring rain once you are in a nice warm, dry space). The rain didn't really let up until about 2am, so crowd estimates from last year are probably not the usual. We did hear though, that Epcot almost never closes due to capacity on NYE.

We arrived at WDW on Dec 31 two years ago and didn't enter Epcot until early afternoon. We actually went back and forth to the YC during the day and early evening and had no problem getting back into the park.

I thought u had to wait for the 90 days out. Did I miss something. Can I make my NYE PS now?

Sorry, I meant that is what YC concierge will book for us. They suggested booking one at the park and one at the resort since we have a big party and we are not sure how things will go until later.

I tried to change our Chef Mickey breakfast from 12/25 to 12/26 this morning and they told me that the large table is already gone and we need to be seated at 3 separate tables (total of 15 people).

Oh thanks, u had me a little scared we wanted to eat at Tappenyaki's on NYE and thought I missed it.
Last trip when I made my PS for cindy's they told me they couldn't fit us together (even though there are only six of us,) They had to give me two tables. But when we got there we had no problem they put us together,
Maybe if you call in the AM they can put a couple tables together, If not let them know you want the tables next to each other. Wow 15 people together in Disney this sounds like fun. Have a great time. Gina

Gina,

Or maybe dangerous ;)

I am a little stressed out over the itineary and everything else. When you have that many people, everything adds up quickly :(

Your group is lucky to have you as their planner. I'm sure they will appreciate all you have done when they come home from their fantastic vacation that you planned!

I hope you have a wonderful time. Gina

We plan on getting to EPCOT around 5pm. Helps to know that we should still get it. We are hoping to get PS at Rose & Crown for 7pm.

Sounds fun! I cannot wait! :)
