Those that have stayed on site, favorite off-site hotel?

On site we like the GCH, but it sure is pricey. Off site we like the Sheraton Park, the Candy Cane Inn, the Hilton Anaheim, and the Sheraton Anaheim (although since that property is no longer going to be with Starwood, we probably won't stay there often). Our choices are clean, have good staff and customer service, and are walkable to the parks or have a private shuttle.

We have looked at staying at the DLH before but just can't justify the cost when there are plenty of nice hotels just as close or even closer. We love staying at the Sheraton Park Hotel. It is only a 15-20 minute walk to the parks.

We always ask for a Disney View room is at all possible so that we can sit out on our balcony and watch the fireworks or WOC on our first night there before we hit the parks.

The pool area is very nice with palm trees and a cabana bar where they serve drinks and they have food service as well.
Here is a photo of the pool area.

We've enjoyed staying at the Park Vue Inn. It's not fancy, but the free breakfast was decent with eggs, bacon, sausage, and many other good choices my daughter likes the waffles that you can make yourself. You can't get much closer to the entrance, and the price is really good when comparing it to the onsite hotels. We've stayed at all of the onsite hotels, and really we can't justify paying the higher prices for our family since we spend most of our time in the parks.

I've only been to DL twice, so I don't have a ton of experience.

On our most recent trip we stayed at DLH--and it was wonderful! Our first trip we stayed at HOJO, and had a great time, too. We upgraded to a fireworks view room at HOJO, which was pretty amazing. Even when the fireworks weren't going off, the view into Disneyland and being so close to the monorail was pretty spectacular. The room was clean and comfortable, but not nearly as magical as DLH. However, it was a much better price. The play pool is great for younger kids.

For our upcoming trip in June, I've booked us for Candy Cane Inn. The distance to the resort is similar to HOJO. The two things that put me over the edge for trying CCI instead of going back to HOJO are: the continental breakfast (since we're traveling with extended family this gives everyone a convenient option each morning) and the shuttle. While I don't expect we'll use the shuttle much, we've got two people in their 70's and three kids 8 and under in our traveling party. I liked that the option to cut out the walk was there in case we need it.

Tom's podcast/blog series on the Good Neighbor Hotels has been really helpful, if you'd like to check that out. http://blog.wdwinfo.com/2014/09/18/disneyland-good-neighbor-hotel-candy-cane-inn/

Has anyone stayed at the new Springhill Suites on the corner of Katella and Harbour (I think that is where it is). It looks nice... but I never hear anyone talking about it.

Tom Bell reviewed it in November (I think) on the Dis podcast. Check the archive.

I know someone who was staying there this week but haven't heard back about the experience yet. If she has anything interesting to say, I will share.

Having stayed at both onsite and offsite, my favorite offsite hotel is an onsite hotel. The cost of the offsites which are within immediate proximity which will even remotely come close to the niceness level of the onsites are practically the same cost, so onsite it is if you are looking for the same experience.

Ramada maingate. Will be there for our 10th+ soon. Ask for deluxe room with fireworks view. These rooms were remodeled before the construction and are much bigger than the deluxe no fireworks view. Superior wasn't woth the extra $$ to us. We preferred deluxe with fireworks room!!

Another nice thing about HoJo is their parking lot. We drive a van and/or a large SUV and at HoJo we do not have to squeeze our cars into a tiny parking space and pray we can find a space later if we dare to leave.
And the customer service is excellent.

Thanks for posting this! We are staying there in April for the Star Wars Celebration. There are not a lot of reviews for it that I could find online; I look forward to hearing Tom's Take on it.

I listened - summary - he loved it :) To be fair, he did get it for 111/nt but makes me feel good about having a nice option like that!

Anyone stayed at the Camelot Inn? We are definitely on site people by trying to sneak in a last minute unexpected trip. Thanks!

We stayed at the Camelot Inn and Suites this past weekend. I was very pleasantly surprised. We had a family suite for our group of 5 teens and 2 adults. We were on the top floor, and even though the room overlooked the parking lot and McDonald's, the room was very quiet. Great service--and the staff was very nice about providing a million towels.

It was a very short walk to the park entrance. The room was clean, and the housekeeping staff did a great job.

I would definitely stay there again.

We visited DL three times so far and every time, we stayed at Best Western Stovall's Inn. We were always able to have a decent prize, it's only a 5-10 minutes walk when you cut through the Grand Californian, they have 2 pools.

Really, we were never disappointed!

Thanks so much for the feedback! Makes me feel better about not staying at a Disney hotel.

I have been on the search to find the elusive off site hotel that we can call our home away from home when we visit Disneyland. I was able to stay at Paradise Pier once several years ago when they had a crazy $100 a night rate, and then my husband and I were able to spend 2 nights at the Grand Californian for our anniversary last year. Staying on site has spoiled me. it's really hard to find some thing that even comes close to the special feeling of staying at a Disney property. But, alas, my pocketbook can't really really take the beating when we go to Disneyland, so we have chosen various offsite hotels over the years that, while they have been comfortable and met our needs, it just doesn't feel the same. We have stayed at Hilton Anaheim, Embassy Suites Garden Grove, Hilton Garden Inn, Homewood Suites, Hilton Suites Orange, Hojo, Best Western Stovall's and most recently Marriott Springhill Convention Center. I joke with my husband that eventually we'll have tried every single hotel surrounding Disneyland.

We just stayed there over Christmas break. Here's my review from another thread for what it's worth.

"I can't really comment on parking. My husband found a spot at ground level as we checked in. It had a CVS customer sign, but the desk clerk said it was fine to park there, so we literally did not move our car the entire time during our stay. We kept our doors locked and didn't leave any valuables in the car and had no problems.

The room was very clean (of course, you'd expect that from a new hotel). Plenty of space. Pull out couch was comfortable. We were assigned an ADA room, which had a tub/shower combo. Water pressure was sort of iffy. Our shower had a handheld attachment and that seemed a little better than the shower head. The bathroom was huge! I had requested a high floor facing Disneyland and we were on the top floor. We had a view of the Tower of Terror and could see part of Mickey's fun wheel. We could have easily watched fireworks from our room. We were a little nervous because we were in between the workout room and the elevator/ice machine, but we did not have any problems with noise, even with facing Katella. Housekeeping seemed a little off, they left a spray cleaning bottle in the room one day and another day they did not bring us any clean towels, but no huge problems. Also, they had the smallest hotel shampoo and conditioner bottles I've ever seen! I don't know how 6 people could share it, haha! It wasn't a huge problem for us, but if you're someone who relies on hotel shampoo, just be aware you may need to call to get some more bottles.

The decor is very contemporary, which isn't really my favorite, but no big deal. My kids thought it was weird that there were eggshells hanging in the hallway for decor, lol. Side note, the hotel is non smoking, but I swear I smelled cigarette smoke almost every time I walked to the elevator in the lobby.

The hotel rooftop pool area is awesome, lots of comfy seating. We watched the fireworks from there the first night we arrived and it was a great view. My kids loved it. We did not use the pool while we were there, but I have to say I was surprised how small it was! I think I've seen bigger bathtubs! I don't want to think about how crowded it will get during summer!

Breakfast was disappointing. I know it's "free," but the scrambled eggs were horrible, sausage and canadian bacon were cold. We did the make it yourself waffle the first day, but didn't really care for it either. The muffins and sweet breads were tasty though. The breakfast area is way too small. We went early enough the first day to get a table, but the next 2 mornings we just took plates of food back to our room. I kept meaning to try the Coffee Bean for breakfast since I even had a gift card that someone gave me, but I never even saw where it was located!

Having the CVS right there is so convenient! It's a nice full sized CVS, prices were comparable to our CVS at home. They actually seem to have an expanded variety of Disney merchandise including shirts, magnets, backpacks, postcards and toys, I even saw cute yellow Mickey ponchos! (not quite the same as the original ones from the park) We thought we would cut through the CVS to get to the hotel entrance faster(there are doors on both sides) but they lock the back entrance at night. I think it's a great addition for anyone staying in the resort area.

The walk to the park is doable, but it can be pretty rough on little ones, especially at the end of the night. There were lots of people walking and I never felt unsafe.

I would stay here again as long as the rates are affordable and the service is good. I was really hoping that I would just fall in love with this hotel and it would become our "second home" for our Disney trips, but as much as I thought there were some very nice things about it and our complaints are very minor, it just didn't quite measure up for us. Maybe if the pool was a little bigger and the breakfast a little better and if it felt more family friendly. Despite the rooms for 6, it feels like it's geared more for convention goers or business travelers. I would give it a solid 4 out of 5 stars.

My kids, ages 6 and 9, really liked Hojos, as did I. Given a choice, we'd stay onsite (we love the GCH), but we only can justify doing that once a year--our annual three-generation October trip to the resort.

We stayed at Hojos last July in a premium room, and the kids thought the views of the Matterhorn and monorail and the fireworks were all magical. They also really loved the water park so much that during the hottest part of the day they asked to leave DL for a while (a first!) so we could go back to Hojos and play in the water. To make the room seem more Disney-magical, I brought inexpensive Disney-themed decorations from a party supply store and hung them all over the room. We have reservations to go back to Hojos this summer for five nights. :)

The only drawback for us was that the staff members at the front desk weren't very friendly. (Even the kids noticed and asked why the woman checking us in seemed "mad.") It kind of felt like we were bothering them any time we asked a question--or like they'd seen their share of children wearing mouse ears and no longer found them cute. (My kids are super-well-behaved, so it wasn't like they were running around or shouting or doing anything but giggling and looking excited to go to Disneyland after sitting in the car for 7 hours.) But since a lot of other folks here have written that they thought the staff were friendly, I'll assume that our experience was just an anomaly.

Thanks for this!! Wow, so you have stayed a ton of places, where have you liked the best? How does PPH rate next to your fav off site?
