Those that have stayed both, AB or Mansions?

We've been to POR before and can't wait to be back next month! We have only stayed in AB and thinking about requesting Mansions this time around.

We have no concerns at all about the distance from food court, etc. (One of the reasons we don't stay deluxe- we like the walk outside!) We loved loved loved this place last time and I think a big part of the appeal was the landscaping / backwoods feel. However, the look of the new mansion rooms seems a little more appealing to me this time.

I just keep thinking about our stay at CBR, which we didn't care for as much. We had to switch rooms near the end of our stay and for some reason I liked the 2nd room so much better - corner room and in a different section. I can't help but thinking, if we'd had that room 1st or for the majority of our stay, would our opinion of the resort be better? So, basically, now I'm wondering if I'll be as happy in the Mansions (if I even get that request) as I was in the bayou! Also, we are with our in-laws this time. It will be their 1st stay at anything other than value, and we want them to love it, too!

I'd love to hear from those of you that have actually had rooms in both areas. Which did you prefer and why? Did your stay feel a lot different being in a different section?

Thanks!

I've stayed in AB twice and in the Mansions once. I thought I was going to like the Mansions better....but I actually preferred AB! Go figure. The Mansions were nice, don't get me wrong. The rooms were more formal and the landscaping was beautiful. But I found I just loved the feel of AB better.

I do not like AB at all. I have only stayed once, and just won't do it again. I always request the Mansions, and make sure they know it's a necessity when I book!

Would you say it's the room decor or the location...or....?

It's just a personal preference. I've been staying at POR since it was Dixie Landings, and that (the plantation theme) is what I love about the resort. It just felt like a completely different place when I stayed in AB.

We loved both!! But the edge might go to the AB. A cozier feeling and loved the walk! Really close to everything in the preferred rooms there.

Magnolia Bend ( Mansions ) was the absolute Peerfect Spot to be. So close to it's bus stop. very close to the quiet pool & literally a 4 minute walk to main pool, & 8 minute walk to main bldg... Also the Movies at night where one section over too.

Wow, really seems like it's a personal preference.

My vote goes to the mansions. This is one of my favorite resorts. We really loved the Royal Guest rooms too.

We have stayed AB once. I hope I never stay there again. It was as if we stayed in a different resort. The mosquitoes were horrible. We did not like the décor. And there was a large bug crawling on the air vent. Yuk! It just did not go well.

But I can see that some people may like the rooms in AB and not like the mansions.

This is exactly what I was afraid of.....almost like 2 different resorts depending on where you stay. I was really hoping everyone said they had no preference - they liked both equally! Ha ha!

I'm just really not liking the brown walls in the new AB bathrooms....the white Mansion ones look so much cleaner. I know it doesn't mean they are cleaner, but I'm just weird about bathrooms, I guess. LOL. I think everything else is fine.

I prefer the more rustic look of AB. And I really like the tile in the bathroom - it looks like wood and really adds to the theming.

Ive stayed 3 times since the renovation in early 2012. First was a garden view in Acadian House.. so pretty, really close to north depot. But ... a little generic, but, again, location was good, also not too long of a walk to old man island. Then I stayed in AB 38. It was absolutely so charming, I just loved the decor!!!! But, the walk seemed much longer to a convenient bus stop. Then, this spring, I stayed in a Royal Room. Cute and charming!
Really, you can't go wrong! Lucky! Enjoy!:cool1::cool1::cool1::cool1:

I think I'm not going to make any building requests and just see what we get!

You could always do that, too! The only reason I insist on the Mansions when I book and check in is because I just love the way they look and feel. It's the only reason I ever book POR. If it wasn't for that, I really wouldn't care where they stuck us!

.

Ask and you shall receive pixiedust: I like both equally....totally different styles, but each so unique and lovely. I think I might just be enchanted with the whole PO resort property :goodvibes We stayed at CSR last year after staying at POR twice (once in each section) and I really have to say I missed it! I didn't find staying in either section made the feel of the resort any different, but that said I do love to walk around and soak up the feeling of the whole resort, so that might be part of the reason.

Good luck to you and I hope you have a wonderful time!

We have also done both. I prefer the landscaping and secluded feel of the AB rooms to the wide open areas of the Mansions. However, I really do enjoy both. I think the theme just appealed to me more on the AB side. We were also in a preferred room in the AB section so we were literally one building from the food court and lobby.

One thing I did really like was that staying in the Mansions almost felt like staying at a different resort. I don't like to repeat resorts over and over with so many to try, but being on the mansions side felt just different enough if that makes sense.

Either way, I don't think you can go wrong with either. If you do a Royal Room you really will be quite close to walk over the bridge to the main buildings.
We thoroughly enjoyed both stays and hope to get back one day:)

We have stayed in both and I much prefer the mansion side. I found the AB side to be too dark, décor wise and too swampy outside for my taste.

We stayed in a Royal Room in September and liked it a lot. On our next trip (probably in the fall of 2015), I think we will choose AB, maybe in a preferred room. My husband liked the Royal Room but says he prefers the looks of the AB rooms.

I've only stayed at POR once, in the mansion section. I requested a mansion section room and thought I would have been really disappointed with an AB room. I loved the room decor of our mansion room (this was in Dec. 2012), but honestly the AB section seemed nicer and more relaxing than the mansions. The mansion rooms are in long outdoor walkways, so it has more of a motel room feel to me than the AB sections (also outdoor walkways, just not all in a long row). Next time we stay at POR it will be in the AB section.

wehave stayed in both, and liked both. but they are totally dif. themes. I wish they were bookable categories.

but now that disney has decided to book umpteen!!! categories!!! ie4. royal guest, preferred, river view, pool view, garden view, parking lot view.,... doesn't give you much choice now, does it?

I still think they should let alligator bayou/ Magnolia bend be a bookable catergory. but with the stupid royal guest rooms. and only the AB rooms allowing 5, no choice.

we have mostly been in AB. I like it fine. but it is just too DARK for my husband, who has low vision. kinda gloomy, swampy, yup, that's the "theme" . too dark for those who cna't see well.
