Those of you that have special diets

I am a vegetarian, most of the time I can find something on the menu to eat, but there are times that I don't

So this question is for anyone (vegetarian or not) that had a special diet...

Do you call ahead before you get to the restaurant or wait until you get there & just see what is on the menu? Do you ask your waiter to talk to the chef?

Also we are going to Hoop Dee Doo. when I made the PS I mentioned vegetarian meal for myself & my son. Should I call again before we leave to make sure it is down? We arrive on the 14th with PS on the 17th for HDD.

I'm going tomorrow and will let you know... My MIL has to be on a Gluten-free diet, VERY challenging. We are staying concierge and I had the concierge contact every restaurant we have a PS at. I will remind them when I check in. I have no PS's for lunch so we will have to just ask wherever we eat.

I hope it goes okay - because I was responsible for making the arrangements and I will feel terrible if she has reaction under my watch!

Do I call HDD directly?

I have some severe allergies and I call the restaurant directly to make sure they can accommodate my allergies. When I get on property I usually call the restaurant once more just to make sure they have my request correct.
