We will be in the World in late August - early September and are wondering if those little battery powered misting fans are a good thing to have or if they are more of an inconvenience to carry than they are worth.

If you like them, where can you get them for a reasonable price before you leave home?

I found mine last week at Walmart marked down to $3. For some reason they were in the toy section with the bubbles, etc. They're small enough to fit in our fanny packs. We "tried them out" over the weekend any they're great!

It will still be very hot at the end of Aug. and the beginning of Sept. If you are from a colder climate than Florida and have kids, I would bring a mister fan. We used ours mostly in the mornings when we were there in July this year and I'm used to the heat because I live in KY. We didn't use it in the evenings because it got quite a bit cooler on several days, especially after it rained.

If you can find the smaller mister fans, I would get it. I found mine at my local K-Mart and at Walmart. They are much cheaper there than at WDW.

I found a bigger one at Modell's for $8. And it was a pain to carry around, so on the first day break, I left it in the room and never carried it again. Go for a smaller one!

I didn't find a small mister fan but did get a small fan at WalMart - also back with the toys, of all places. It was about $3 and there was another version that was a clip on fan. I got one of those for DD's stroller - assuming my test of the blades stopping for fingers works out OK. I'm still going to keep my eyes open for a mister version so we can have some options to see what works best. The only one I saw last time I looked was much too big to carry around for several days even with a stroller to serve as a "pack mule", IMHO.

We got ours at the "mart" - but I am worried about how big they are. We're pushing a stroller so don't have to worry so much about the schlepping factor but I think that sharing 2 of them among the 6 of us will be fine.

LisaZoe your little princess is adorable!

We're still a family of two, so we don't have to worry about kids getting hot. We were all geared up to get one of these things and found one at Wal-Mart. It was around $6 and huge. We thought that would be way too big to carry around (this thing was so big it had a place to put ice cubes in it!).

Thanks for everybody's feedback. If we can find a smaller one, we may get it, otw we will just find a/c ever so often.

We have 2 of the big ones and never use them anymore. We take a small spray bottle that the DW got in the travel section. It is about the size of a roll of dimes and we just fill it at a water fountains. It fits easily in a pocket or fanny pack. Most of the lines have fans and a little spray cold water works wonders.

I just found a small mister at Party City. The summer stuff is on clearance and it was 99 cents. It is the perefct size. Fits into fanny pack. Soft felxible blades so DD wont gethurt runs on 2 AA batteries. At first I thought that it may be too small but tried it out at our seaquarium and it was great . Best of all it is lime Green.::yes::

On Live with Regis and Kelly the other day they were talking about new beach gadgets. They had a fan that looked like a fanny pack that sold for $99. The first thing I thought was "That would be great for Disney!" Kelly tried it out and it was blowing quite a breeze on her.

Stick with the non-mister fan. The humidity is like 90%. All the mister does is get you wet. The personal fans worked great for us last week. Found them at our Walmart for $1 each.

We bought our fan/misters at Wal-Mart in early May for 4.99. They were in the Camping gear stuff. I'm glad we had the mister on it b/c it cools the back of your neck. Ours also had a shoulder strap on it and is the same size as the ones at WDW for $16 +. I'm really glad we took ours. Also carried an insulated bottle carrier for bottle water. Would refill the bottles at night and pack them overnight in the cooler. Next morning would have nice cold water for most of morning. Would just refill at fountains when we ran out. One problem we had w/the mister fans tho, is on one the fan kept popping off and we'd end up chasing batteries. That was the only downfall of carrying them.

I have been buying them as I find them for cheap prices. I got a few at Target, a few at the dollar store and a few at CVS. The Target & Dollar Store ones have thin flexible plastic blades, the CVS ones have a thick foam blade and also can become misters if filled with water. Make sure the ones you get have an on button that actually stays on - sometimes they only stay on if your finger is holding it down.

We always enjoy having them on hot day - the breeze is necer cool but sometimes it's nice to have any sort of air blowing on you.

:)
