Honestly, claiming a spot hours in advance and then having to fight to keep your spot and prevent rude people from standing in front of you or pushing up so close behind you that you can feel their breath of your neck is completely annoying! For me, personally, it distracts from enjoying the parade or fireworks show. I understand Susie wants her darling little daughter to see the fireworks or parade too but I don't feel my experience should suffer because they didn't plan their day properly.
This happened at MNSSHP last year and it really upset me. We got a GOOD spot early and these jerks come over and stood right in front of us.
Unfortunately, until people get over themselves and their sense of "me me me" it's something the rest of us have to deal with.
I feel if you want to put your kid on your shoulders you should stake out a spot that doesn't block the view of a handful of people around you. People need to remember EVERYONE there wants to enjoy the parades and fireworks, not just you! Yes, it can be a sweet experience and memory for the parents and their children, but you may have ruined the moment for several people around you.
