fight with boyfriend last night - we live in a trailer park in FL (30mins from WDW). He wants to keep the heat at 78 - I think 65 is ok, Im paying the heat/electric/rent anyways
Im from MA and when we kept the house at 65 it was doing good. And yes I heard from a friend last night that the temp was in the single digits.

So those from the south/FL what do you keep your temp set at?

We keep our house between 74-76 pretty much year round. We have a small space heater to use in the bedroom and shower if necessary for really cold nights. Fans to circulate air in the summer.

He wants to keep the heat at 78! What are your overnight lows, in the high 50s? When we lived in South Florida I don't think we even had heat. I can remember going swimming on Christmas Day. If your BF is cold, tell him to peel outta his speedo and put some sweatpants on.

ETA: We live in North Georgia now. It's been in the high 10s-low 50s for the past 6weeks. I keep my thermostat at 60 degrees. We all wear sweaters, slippers, layers, etc. When it gets really cold(in the 20s) I will break out my little space heater and a coupla throws. No reason to pay for heating other rooms that I'm not even using. There is NO WAY I'd be cranking out heat at 78 degrees!

In the winter,70 for a minimum.Long pants and sleeves if needed.Summertime between 76-78.I'll do a little less of something else to afford to be cool and comfortable then.lol

I am in WPB and we are still sleeping with the windows open. I only close the windows just before jumping in the shower. Inside my house was 60 yesterday AM so I did turn the heat on for a couple of hours but set it at 70.

I keep my air conditioning at 80. We used to keep it at 78 but with the 50% increase in power rates, that 2 degrees means about $150.

Our heat is at 72, I think. I've bumped it up once or twice to take away the dampness.

65 is crazy cold to me but 78 would be too hot. I'd compromise on 71-72.

We live in north Florida. I keep the heat at 70 to 72 but I also have a three week old baby in the house. She needs to be kept warm. And I am always freezing anyway.

Does your boyfriend have a job? Is he contributing to the bills? I only ask this because you state that you are the one paying the heat/electric and rent. If he is not contributing to the household bills then he gets no say in where the temp is set. If, on the other hand, he pays the other bills, then you should compromise with him. Personally, I would freeze at 65 degrees but I can catch a chill at 80 degrees too, so take it for what it is, just my opinion. Good luck with the thermostat war though!

First of all... if you are paying all the bills, he is NOT a keeper. Until he starts paying his way, he has no say.

In Texas I keep the house at 66 in the winter and 78 in the summer.

We live in NC- not too far south, but still a Southern state.

The temps in wintertime avg in the low 30's overnight and low to mid 50's during the daytime. We keep the heat pretty low- it's at 64 right now, but we have set it as low as 62. We just keep slippers and sweaters on, and every sofa/easy chair has a fleece throw on it, ready to be tucked in around us when we sit.

We don't even like to have the AC set at 78!! That's just too hot. We keep the house at 74 (I'd love to keep it even cooler- 71 or 72, but don't like the electric bills) in the summer.

We live about an hour southwest of Disney. Right now, the heat is set at 68 or so.

The last few days have been cool here (6:30AM yesterday it was 32 at my house). We definitely need the heater, but I would rather make everyone wear sweaters and jeans than run up our gas bill.

We keep the heat at 65 during work hours (when we aren't home), 67 or 69 when we get home (with sweatpants/sweatshirts), and 65 when we go to sleep (we're under comfy blankets, so we don't notice the chill). We have a space heater that we use in the bathroom when we get ready in the morning so we stay nice and toasty.

78 is a pretty high temp; good luck with a compromise!

I live in PA and it is pretty cold here right now we keep it set on 68 and if it feels cold later in the evenings we start a fire, to warm it up. I think if he wants it warmer he should have to pay the bill for that.

I think 78 is a little too warm for Florida. IMHO

omg...I would be dying with the heat at 78...that is way too hot...
I"m in TX and keep my heat around 61/62 when it needs to be on...I get hot really easily and if it is warmer than that, I start to feel sick...

in the summer air is between 80-82. I can bust out the fans/ceiling fan and it is ok enough.

We live in Florida and it's been getting a little cold at night. We just have the air completely off. I'm actually enjoying it- I love having the temperature cold- so with the air off and the cold weather outside its been a comfy 69 degrees in our house. I see no need turning on the heat (I love the break on my electricity bill! The last 2 months its been half of what it is in the summer) so I am just wearing sweats at night.

Tell your boyfriend if he gets cold to pile on the layers...:)

When we lived in South Florida we only had the heat on once in three years. It's more, what do you keep the AC at!! We had the AC usually at 68 degrees year round. If I didn't need it it didn't turn on and we had the windows open!

During the day we keep it on 68. At night we turn it down to 65. All of the asthmatics in our house sleep very well at this temperature. If they are too hot they tend to cough all night.

We keep it at 78 when it's hot outside and when it is cold, we keep the heat around 74. Those of you who keep the house temp at 65-69.... brrrrrrrr
