Those effected by fridge recall

I got the letter last week that the fridges in many resorts were recalled, so we won't have a fridge in our room. I'm trying to come up with a new game plan because my kids are younger and still drink a lot of milk and almond milk. But we're driving a Honda Accord down with a double City Mini and I'm not sure I can fit a good size cooler.

So what's your game plan to deal with this?

A lot of resorts are done or are in the process of getting them all switched out. You can also request one for medical reasons since your LOs need milk. The letters are being sent out even if their is a possibilty that your resort will be finished by the time you get there just to cover it just in case. Some have reported their room didn't have a working one yet but as soon as they asked for one and was denied they asked about the credit and one was immediately delivered. Which resort are you staying at?

Buy shelf stable milk aka Parmalat. It tastes exactly the same. Bring a small cooler and fill with ice from hotel ice machines. Cool only one milk at a time. Unopened the Parmalat is good for months.

I agree with trying shelf stable milk with your kids before you go. Some kids will not drink it and others may have sensativity to some of the ingredients, but most drink it well. My son is extremely happy with the Silk shelf stable almond milk because it comes in a "juice box". Since you are driving you could also go over to Walmart and pick up a cheap $10 cooler if absolutely necessary.

I would also contact the resort ahead of time and ask about getting a fridge.

We'll be at AS Music. My dh said he was calling about a credit on our bill today, he was a little irritated when I told him about it. I had planned on doing a small Garden Grocer order as well for yogurt, etc.

You have a large family, if you are in a suite they were not affected. The fridge is in the room.
There was a fire in one at a Disney Land resort, basically the staff outside the room said that it can be used, at your risk.

I would just request one, or you could take a collapsible cooler changing out ice and ask about a credit. But if your driving and on a dining plan, I would skip the garden grocery. Pack a box of cereal and yogurts, pick up drinks at the Hess or Walmart. You are going to need the cooler for drinks in the car.

They won't give you a credit on your bill. When you arrive if you don't have one then ask about the credit. The credit is then a credit on your room chrage. That is how they do the credit. Also some have said that some resorts are offering for you to store the parishables from garden grocers in their fridge. Hope it works out.

We are bringing shelf stable milk.. Enfagrow toddler milk, i thought i had enough to bring normally 1/2 the juice box for morning cereal, 1/2 at night, but if there is no fridge then we can't bring more b/c it weighs so much so we will just have to buy a milk when we eat breakfast or use my drink option to get one on the dining plan. DD2 normally has her cereal pretty soon after waking, so if it is going to be awhile say for our 11am character meal, then i will have to just give her something else to eat. I hope the fridge situation is fixed by then. We did not get a letter, but our trip is in November, the month when i last heard it was supposed to be done by.. so hopefully we will have one.

I would personally wonder if a cooler would keep milk cold enough.. to be safe i'd just buy some shelf stable milk.. it is quite popular now.. Hershey's has it, Horizon's Organic, Enfagrow, and even the Dollar Tree had a larger size one of some off brand.

Good luck :)

It's just me and my 2 youngest. My 6yo has moderate ADHD and some mornings, taking him to breakfast may not be an option so I need yogurt and breakfast items in our room. He drinks Blue Diamond Almond milk, but my 3yo won't touch it and will only drink regular milk.

I wasn't planning on bringing a cooler of any type for the ride. We'll be stopping for snacks and drinks along the way.

I did hear from a friend that some cast members are unaware of the credit. So if someone refuses, ask to speak to a manager.

There is a Winn Dixie not far from the DTD resort area. Before fridges were a standard amenity, we'd go there to pick up a styrofoam cooler and whatever else we needed at the start of our trip.

Also wanted to add, Kelly at kellypds.com has coolers and can get you whatever you need. You night want to check her out as she doesn't have a minimum order and is local.

For what it's worth, I called yesterday to request a fridge for my upcoming trip in Decemmber and was told that within 2-3 weeks, the fridge rollout should be complete and all resorts and rooms should have fridges again.

Awesome, good to know!! Thanks!

We're at Pop right now with my parents. Their room has a fridge, but ours doesn't, so some are already replaced.
