Thongs at Blizzard Beach

Really? You have seen people wearing thongs on family friendly tv shows, family friendly magazine ads and catalogs? I guess I haven't. And I think since Disney is a family friendly place, people should respect that and wear tasteful swimwear.

Yes, absolutely, every single day. Have you never seen an ad for Victoria's secret ? Or most Perfumes ? or A music Video ? Or a new CD/Single being released, or a movie ... or ... anything... Butts are everywhere.

Seriously.

I also don't know why Disney should cater to what anyone's version of "family friendly" is ... If they can do some that appeals to all people, great. Or something that appeals to some people, but doesn't impact others, also great !

But if they think its fine and you don't, why should Disney side with you? You don't have to look, you don't even have to go to the water parks.

Indeed there are things that I see around the parks I find far more offensive, but I recognize it is the right of those people to live as they see fit, even if I don't agree or think they are stupid or ignorant or offensive ...

I was asking about family friendly places you see people wearing thongs. WDW is a family friendly place not a Sandals resort.

And to answer your question, no, I have four children and I am careful what they see so we do not have Victoria's Secret catalogs in our home. Nor do we watch music videos or movies of that sort. Or have any magazines where butts are shown.

Really? Thongs aren't much different than yoga pants? That is hilarious. Trust me- there's a difference. I look darn good in yoga pants. I would look terrifying in a thong.

I'm no prude, but a family friendly place like Disney World is just not the best place to showcase your ***-ets in a thong.

While I get your point, yoga pants have a way of smoothing things out, especially good thick elastic ones. Really you are just arguing that you can wear yoga pants because they make your butt and legs look better, so people with good butts and legs should be able to wear thongs.

But most yoga pants show just as much, and sometimes more, than thongs. The only difference, you don't actually see the "skin" ... instead you see the exact same details in a colour, whatever the colour of the fabric they happen to be wearing.

Really, look at some people in yoga pants and leggings, there is nothing left to the imagination, at all. If you just changed the colour to skin tone, they would be naked. But this is cool and trendy and stylish and you can wear it in public :)

Great, you enjoy those 10 channels at home.

In public though, it is not your standards that get to trump others, family friendly is not a term that is written in stone, it varies, the definition varies, family types vary.

BTW - Sandals says its family friendly too !

Who gets to decide what is tasteful?

I for one am not a fan of thongs or speedos and have to admit the first time I was at a topless beach in SXM I was a bit uncomfortable (esp when we didn't know it was a topless beach) . Since I wear a bathing suit I haven't gone back to that topless beach. It just isn't for me. That said it isn't up to me or you to decide on what is/isn't tasteful in swimwear. If Im bothered by something I remove myself , rather than expecting the world to revolve around my taste.

A thong bathing suit covers only the female (or in some cases, male) genitals. Leaving the entire butt bare for the world to see is nudity, plain and simple, and it should not be allowed at a Disney, a family centered, water park.

I think Disney should address this. I know there are other many other waterparks in the US who do not allow thongs!

Ummm....you do know that "nudity" by definition is synonymous with naked right ? You know, like wearing nothing at all.

This!

There is a major difference though. Many of those Muslim countries are just that - MUSLIM countries. Religious states. They actually have laws about these things.

I've gotta say I'm happy I DON'T live in a country like that. Maybe people think it's gross or tacky or whatever. The bottom line is, it's totally legal, and totally OK to do.

Don't get me wrong: at this point in my 54 year old life, I would never even think about prancing around in a thong, a bikini or even a 2-piece bathing suit. But I definitely don't want to deny anyone else their right to do it - whether it looks good or not!!

Just my opinion of course - but I imagine I'm in the minority.

I'll park myself right next to you because this sums up my feelings perfectly (except I'm 31 but I still won't wear a 2 piece after 2 kids).

Eh, I find it more distasteful to see a father and son at a urinal where th boy is totally naked becase he pulls his shirt up to his neck and his pants around his ankles standing 2 feet away, it can be very shocking for a non parent to see that.

Folks personal preferences and differences in cultures is not a trip planning topic.
