mods can move if want...i just got an note, website www.spokeo.com is an online phone book for people. esp. people who use the dis.
i clicked on it and it had very personal info about me and my dh, children, names and addresses, how much we pd for our house and even our credit score.. some was right to the $ and some was wrong..still intrusive.. they seem to have collected info and pix from varies websites you visit../
/must remove your name...click on website, search your name, state, they have your address already, find yourself,,then go to bottom of page click privacy, fill out form, and they will send email to you/ must click link in email from them to be removed...remember to do DH.. i see my parents in the book and they don't even have a pc..so everyone is listed..i deleted 3 names & that's all allowed w/1 email address..good luck.. i see it on urban legend but the info on me was currect and i do have privacy phone # but they still had it correct i would just check your name that's all...

It's so crazy how all that stuff showed up under my name...even though more than half of it is false...i'm NOT in my late 20's....I still consider 26 mid-20's....

What a strange website. I found two listings with my name. None of the pics that showed up were of me/people I know so not sure about that. Then some of the other stuff was wrong like my Zodiac sign, hobbies/interests were just crazy things. I also searched for SO's name (we live together, but it wasn't connected) and it has wrong pics, zodiac, and listed our home value at $1M!!! I wish!

There are tons of websites similar to this that give all kinds of personal information. You would be surprised at how much you think is private is really not private.

I saw that information when another poster posted it. I checked and my info was not on it. My husband was , but no mention of me. So, I am not too concerned. As far as for him, I will pass the info along and let him decide what he wants to do.

I live in a $1M house while DH lives in a $40K house -- we live together. Lots of wrong information. I'm not sure that removing your name is going to do anything.

I just don't find this bothersome at all...certainly not enough so to bother with taking my info off. Pretty much the correct info is public knowledge and the other info isn't that important; whether it be right or wrong.

Most of mine was pretty accurate, although not all, and what they did have wrong was REALLY wrong.
Apparently my hubby is a shopaholic?? I really wish I would have been consulted on that one, since I have to nag to get the man to buy a pair of shorts for vacation.
They had my sister's career correct, but apparently she got into the medical field with only a high school diploma. It also appears she never really divorced her ex?? Maybe I should tell her that before she marries her fiance this summer??
And I guess my younger sister is living in sin with her hubby of six years since she's single??
And they had my parents living in a home built in 1996 (try 1900). They were only off by a century... BUT, on the upside, they're going to make a killing when they sell the place someday.


What I wonder is who is using this type of site to research us?? Potential employers?? Landlords?? Or just nosy neighbors??

Potential employers and Landlords would never use a site like this to research people. It's just for the benefit of nosy neighbors.

Nothing too amazing on me - 90% of it is wrong. The only thing they had right was my address (probably from tax records) and my age, sort of - but since they had my zodiac sign wrong, I know they don't have my birthdate.

I watch my privacy settings like a hawk on websites, and limit what I join. Always set it to the most secure - and READ website privacy policies. A LOT of websites reserve the right to sell your personal information - how much do you trust them to sell it only to "nice" people without intentions such as this??

I also have an unlisted phone number - I've found over the years a great peace of mind from that. I suggest it for everyone.
