This picture speaks volumes

I just love this picture (PA Fish Commission). It brings back memories. Under the Green Logo it says 'Take Me Fishing', but the picture can be applied to anything. I like to say 'Get a Youngin away from computer games'.

9 years old, my Uncle, a 9ft telescoping metal fly rod. Bug eyed, that fish (trout) took my fly. My Uncle probably said 'Great' or 'Super' or 'Your first Rainbow Trout'. That part is foggy. I do know he said "let me show you how to release that Rainbow unhurt'. The fish was unhooked, but I was hooked the rest of my life.

I grew up in a family of fisherman. Fishing was not done for fun but for survival. When we were lucky enough to legally migrate to the US from Europe, the entire family of 8 plus relatives would pack up and go to the seacoast and make a day of it. But now it was for fun. I guess I missed out on the fishing gene. The family still goes fishing. I go for the ocean. Can't stay away from it that long.
