This may not be the board to ask this....

And I know this is a dumb question.

I'm 5'3, and really, really chubby. Like, um, 300lbs.

When I went to WDW last year, I was probably 20 lbs, 2 pants sizes smaller, and I don't remember having trouble fitting into any rides, but when I went to Six Flags last year, I had major issues with the roller coasters, and I couldn't really ride much.

I know I have weight issues, but I'm really really active, and have tons of energy.

Should I be worried?

At Disney, larger-sizers are often called "Pooh-sized".

Disney is famous for having attractions that are accomodating for many sizes of guests.

Except for the "Teacups" which are kind of tight, most every attraction at WDW (even the coasters) will be A-OK.

And this is the PERFECT board to ask about this.

The different websites like wdwinfo and allearsnet generally have "Disney at large" or something similar to give info about bigger folks at WDW. Most claim to have few problems riding everything. Also, I think some of the rides have ride vehicles that you can sit in BEFORE you board to make sure you fit. I am not sure if you have to ask the CM about them....anyone???

RnR has/had a test vehicle, but those vehicles are very accomodating with their fully-adjustable flip-down shoulder harnesses.

EE has/had a test vehical outside the attraction.

Back in late January of this year, EE previewed to the public for the first time (limited to AP holders and DVC guests).

At that time, the lap-bar restraints had only "one click" to lock into position, and that one position was very low and VERY SNUG into the lap.

Many Pooh-sizers had trouble getting the bar to lock into position and some had to try to lock the bar first, then attempt to "slither" down into the seat with that bar pressing hard into their mid-sections.

I was THERE at that time (late Jan. '06), rode EE several times, and personally witnessed how the lap-bars worked and how the guests had to maneuver themselves to fit in the cars.

Since that preview there have been lots of questions as to whether Disney had made further adjustments to the restraint system.
But nobody seemed to be able to say FOR SURE that there had actually been any physical changes made.

WELL, GOOD NEWS:

After a May, 2006 visit at WDW, I can say without question that:

YES, they DID change the restraint system!
There are now MANY lock-position "clicks" on that lap-bar and it can be considered LOCKED at a much "wider and roomier" position than the first timers experienced.

So, EE is now VERY FRIENDLY to Pooh-sized guests... even quite large and tall.

I wanted everyone to know that from someone who experienced the "before" and "after" of the EE restraints.

This means EE joins the other attractions at WDW that are accommodating to adults of virtually any size!

allearsnet.com has a section about this. http://allearsnet.com/tp/ridsiz.htm

I went with a friend of mine who is 5'4" and weighs about 350 (haven't weighed her, but I'm pretty good with a guess, part of my work.) She had trouble fitting on a few rides, said they hurt, but I don't remember which they were. A couple times she had some serious trouble getting her seatbelt on and I had to help. Don't think there were any that she couldn't ride, though. :)

She couldn't get through a turnstyle once (entering Magic Kingdom, I think) and had to use the entrance for strollers and wheelchairs. She was able to laugh it off, but it might upset someone else. After that, she just used those whenever she could.

I will say that she tired easily (she's so out of shape) and complained a LOT about the heat. She was dripping sweat (the fat insulates.)

I think she would have enjoyed it more if she'd been more in shape...and I know I would have! All that complaining drove me up the wall! But that's her personality. :)

You might want to consider walking a few miles daily to get yourself ready for it...you'll enjoy it a lot more if you aren't so tired.

I too am a pooh-sized diser, and I can tell you that there were only a few rides that were even a little bit snug or uncomfortable, namely Dinosaur and Astro Orbiter. Disnosaur tosses you around pretty harshly, and if you have larger thighs, it can be a bit painful. My husband and I nearly died on Astro Orbiter, because we just did not fit and we were sure my husband was going to go flying out at any minute. But It was that good, wholsome Disney fear. The kind that you laugh all the way through, even though you're fairly convinced you're going to lose your brand new husband on your honeymoon! We also couldn't get very high, but that was probably because my husband was left having to steer the rocket with his nether regions. :lmao:
I've avoided amusment parks for the last 10 years because I was nervous about being that person who waits in line, gets on the ride and has to take the walk of shame when they see you can't get buckled in. Disney was amazing. I totally appreciate how 'pudge-friendly' they are. Go and have fun, and don't worry! :cool1:

I am about the same size as you and I had absolutely NO problems on any ride. I will say I didnt go on Astro Orbitor, Primeval Whirl, Tomorrowland Speedway, Kali River Rapids, and maybe one or two more, but I went on every other ride in every park excluding the water parks and I had no issues. My dad was with me the whole time, he is about 5'7" and 350 lbs. and he also had no problems. DONT WORRY ABOUT FITTING, YOU WILL BE FINE!!! I, too, have had major trouble at Six Flags and hadnt visited a theme park in years. I cant wait to go back to Disney!! PM me if you have questions about a certain ride or anything else I can help you with.

HAVE FUN!!!!

Go...you will be amazed at how much you can do. Primeval Whirl will hurt your tush though. It has plastic ridges molded and I didn't fit between them, but the ride was a blast and I will ride it again! Some of the theater seats are snug, so use the sit and slide back method. Pull out all seatbelts all the way before sitting down.

Some of the turnstiles like the one at Small World are small, just use the wheelchair gate. I think they fixed the one at Pirates so it is more like the newer ones, at least I think I heard that...use the wheelchair gate if you have any doubt, no one will care or make fun. Disney is one place I don't feel terribly self consious about being pooh sized, because I did everything I wanted to do. Have not been on Everest as it wasn't there yet when we were there.

Above all-- go have fun! You can be a kid again!

So did I, and I still do avoid non-Disney parks. Now we are planning a trip to Disneyland Paris...I hope they are as accomodating as Disney World!

Thank you, Robo! I am so glad to hear that as I was kind of concerned about this one and really wanted to ride. Now I am really excited to get there (68 days, 68 days, 68 days!)

I'm 5'4 and a little over 300lbs i too have lots of energy unfortunately i have other issues causing me to keep the weight on luckily my dr and i have found a way to fix it so hopefully i won't be pooh size much longer.

Anyways I currently wear a size 28 pants have a big everything, hips, backside, stomach and chest. I haven't had trouble on any of the rides at Disney.

**Everst the bar stopped when i let go and i didn't feel cramped at all.
**RnRc was A ok as well the safety bar stops when you stop it.
**tower of terror i just pull the seat belt Alllllll the way out first then clicked it and was fine.
**Space Mountain it was tough getting into it as i'm really clumsy but getting out was tougher but i didn't have issues fitting
**Big THunder mountain... I asked if i could ride alone as my mom is also pooh sized and we can't ride together they were more then accomadating with us. Again the bar stopped when we stopped pulling it towards us no problem.
**splash is no problem don't remember having a bar or strap just sat in the log
**test track just pull that seat belt allllllll the way out first then click it
**Misson Space no problem at all it was cramped but thats the nature of the ride
**Soarin i just pulled that seat belt all the way out and no worries! Best ride ever!

Those are the more popular rides hope this helps if you have any questions please let me know!

You can ride Kali River Rapids in AK too! Just tell the CM that you are a single and want a seat for yourself. Otherwise you will have to share a seat and a seatbelt.

I always step into the ride, pull the seat belt ALLLLLL the way up while standing, sit and buckle. All the rides were fine.
