This may be blasphemy but...

I could see a rehab for new track, new vehicles. I can't wait to go to DLR to ride it there. But I agree with a PP, there is already a RnR type coaster. I would hate to lose such a classic to duplicate something already on property.

I would hate to see it changed. This is a great coaster for families. My dh does not like too many coasters ( i think this is the only one he will go on) I like going on a ride that we all can enjoy.

I don't know about a rehab to make it more like RnR, but Space Mountain is definetly in need of some kind of rehab, even if the rehab is just making the track smoother.

When I was in WDW back in Oct '05 with my Hubby after we had both ridden Space Mountain we commented to each other just how JERKY the ride was. It was almost not fun to be on it just because I felt like I was being whipped around.

Perhaps just a rehab of the track and a darkening of the lights would be just the thing for space mountain.

I would love to see it like DL's SM.

It wasn't that much different, except that the lights were darker (stars were projected better somehow), you didn't feel like your back was jerked around every second, and the seats were more comfortable.

Really, I can't see how it would be a bad thing.

i would hate to see them do anything to SM. one of my first WDW experiences was SM and i would hate to see it changed. part of its "charm" are the jerky turns and rough ride. why not keep it as it is and simply open a new mountain in another part of MK, could model it after SM in DL and simply call it
"Bald Mountain". this way you would be able to retain a true WDW classic ride but also have another great ride.

NO! If I want to ride something more like RNR, I'll go ride RNR. I like the *tween* coasters--I think it's hard for kids to go from Goofy's barnstormer to RNR.

You may have ridden Space Mountain a zillion times and now it's boring, but my kids are riding it for the first time next month. I'm sure they won't find it dated or boring.

Not trying to sound rude, I just like the ride the way it is.

That was my thought--that it was an appeal as a step up from the kiddie coasters. I have only been on Space Mountain 3 times. Once back in the seventies when I thought it was so cool, and twice last week when I thought it was rather lame. Gave it a second chance last week, but still voted for lame.

I totally get what you're saying! When I was a 4 years old, I thought SM was the most thrilling ride known to man. Now that I'm 20, it's no big deal. (Exept the fact that it's really herky-jerky!) I definately wouldn't mind a change.

Space Mountain is one of the first rides we go on when the park opens. I still love this ride. It may not be scary or as "thrilling" as some of the newer coasters out there, but it's still FUN.

I like to scream really loud just for fun. Did it as the people are going up and we are riding past them fast and I think I scare them!! heheh

I like new rides, but I also like the older rides just as much.

Although, I wouldn't mind different cars to make it easier to get in and out of... I feel like some spaz trying to get out of those seats!

West Coast Perspective.

So much to love about WDW, but space mountain , as fun as it is, is very impressive at DL. I think the rehab idea is great!!! It has always been popular at DL and was closed for at least two years...but the ride is amazing, smooth, fun, rockin...They added music...it is like rockn roller without the loops.
I disagree that they should have two different tracks because once someone rides the new one, you"re never gonna go back, seriously. We're not afficienados and we totally noticed the difference.

I agree. Both of my kids cut their teeth on SM and it is still just as thrilling as it was 10 yrs ago. It is a nostalgic coaster and not a thrill ride. Clean it up, paint it, darken the walls, bake some more chocoate chip cookies for the roof, just don't ruin a good thing. This is the reason for the wait times and why they run out of FP's. :thumbsup2

How would folks feel about changing the Coney Island Cyclone to a hypercoaster!! :sad2:

Blasphemy is right! Don't you dare change one little light bulb on that ride! Hehehehee...all kidding aside, I would hate to see them do anything other than upgrading the sound system and special effects (and maybe the cars, since I do get that "I'm falling out" feeling on it). If you want a Mummy clone then by all means go ahead and construct a NEW ride elsewhere (there is that large space where 20,000 Leagues used to be, and PLENTY of room in AK).

I'm a Space Mountain purist.

I don't go on space mountain because I don't find it entertaining enough to deal with the jerkyness of it all. Since I was about 7 I would always much rather go on the scarier ride because they were normally newer and smoother. I get a headache when I ride SM and I am a pretty healthy 16 year old. I would really like them to put in a new track.

That is blasphemy! ;)

I love it just the way it is. I can't stand RnR, it beats me to death and is just like Outer Limits at King's Island and King's Dominion (just without tacky neon signs and bad Aerosmith music). RnR is not exactly an original design. There are dozens of indoor roller coasters with the fast takeoff (<-my technical wording ;) ). There aren't very many indoor rollercoasters like SM! :thumbsup2
