This may be blasphemy, but about Dole Whips...

...but what's the big deal about them?

Don't get me wrong - I tried one for the first time a couple weeks ago based on the rave reviews I've seen here - and it was really good. But it wasn't that much different than a most soft-serve icecream that I've had. Just tasted like pineapple and vanilla flavored soft-serve.

This isn't to rain on anyone's parade...but...what's the big deal? :stir: ;)

No big deal, really. We just like them. They're a nice treat on a hot day, and something more refreshing than popcorn.

Things tend to take on a 'cult status' pretty quickly 'round here, but I still think the Dole Whips are a nice break from the ordinary, even if they aren't a 'Big Deal'. ;)

I'm a pineapple fanatic.. I eat it almost every day, so that helps with my love for the Dole Whips. Its also that they are so light and refreshing. Sometimes ice cream can be a bit heavy on the tummy but I never experience that with a dole whip.

I admit I am a dole whip lover. I don't know what it is about it. We can't get anything like it where we live. We wait all year just to have it at WDW. It is a tradition in our family to have one on our first day. I am not someone who gets offended if someone doesn't like it. That's what's great about WDW, there are all kinds of food you can try. Some you will like and will have again and some you don't.

My dh would agree with you non-believers!!! He just rolls his eyes at me when I have to have my mid-afternoon DoleWhip. But, for me, it's just so dar refreshing, especially during the hot months. I'm a huge pineapple lover, so this is heaven for me. And now it's a snack credit....bliss.

I was forced to try a Dole Whip several years ago when my favorite snack stand was closed for refurbishment. Never again! I LOVE pineapple, but I really didn't care for the Dole Whip. I do, however, LOVE the Citrus Swirls that are available just outside the Tiki Room at the Magic Kingdom. They are frozen orange juice swirled with soft serve vanilla. Yum. Only 1 week and I can have one!

It's just something nice and refreshing on a hot day. It's not often you can find a pineapple soft serve either. If a dole whips isn't your cup of tea, give the smoothies at Aunt Gravities a try. They have strawberry/banana, cappuccino, and something with mango in it.

For me it's just like the pp said. I can only get them at Disney. I always get the float, because I love pineapple juice, and it's a nice little break during a hot tiring day. When we go to Disneyland we almost always stop by the Tiki room, get a Dole float for the family to share and watch the show.

mmmmmmmm dole whip. It's a family tradition. So refreshing and tasty :thumbsup2

DH and I tried one because of what I'd read about them here, and both of us found it to be way too tart ... ours ended up in the trash.

For me, the fascination is that is brings back memories of going to the Dole pineapple factory in Hawaii, where we lived when I was a kid. My dear departed Grandpa LOVED pineapple, and while my memories of him are a little fuzzy, everytime I eat a Dole Whip (or anything pineapple), I think of him and the fun he had in Hawaii visiting our family.
Sidenote - the Dole Factory used to have pineapple juice running through the water fountains! It was wicked awesome!

Like these other posters, the reason why I think they are so great is because WDW is the only place I can get pineapple soft serve or strawberry soft serve. I can find yogurt soft serve in many flavors where I live, but the only soft serve ice cream I can get is chocolate and vanilla.

Dole whips are one of the MANY things I look forward to on my Disney trips.

I now better understand where people are coming from.

Like I said, they ARE really good, I just didn't realize why they were so special to a lot of people. Cool stuff!

Never had a Dole Whip. Probably the only DISer who hasn't! :)

I actually don't much care for the soft serve alone. It is really too much.

I do love the pineapple floats though. First, you get some of the soft serve, then you have your ice cold pineapple juice. It is just so refreshing. Try a float sometime, they are MUCH better!

Mine ended up in the trash too.. I'd read about them here and tried one last April and it was making me sick to my stomach so I ditched it.. Was kind of surprised - because I love pineapple - but as you said, it seemed very "tart" and just didn't set well with my tummy..

Strawberry soft serve?!?!?!!!
I've always wanted to try this! Where do they sell it?

:goodvibes

Mmmm I love those Dole Whips...

But does anyone notice that they're different than they were 15 years (or so??) ago???
I remember having them as a child, and they're just DIFFERENT in some way than they used to be????
Anyone else notice that?

Maybe I'm going crazy! LOL!
