My DSD invited my cousin's daughter (age 11) to come to a basketball game with us this weekend. We were making small talk in the car about Christmas, and I was asking her what she wanted this year. She told me she didn't want anything. I was kind of taken aback by that. I said "Really? Nothing?", and she said "Nope, nothing".

The reason it makes me so sad is I am sure her mom told her that she is probably not getting anything. Mom's husband is a crack head and gambling addict, and will hopefully be going to prison soon. Mom has her realtor's license, but won't ever do any work. Beside the oldest, there are two babies (ages 1 and 2) at home. Last year mom signed the kids up with the Salvation Army to get presents for the kids, but I think this year she just didn't feel like doing it.

DSD and I were talking about it yesterday. She has decided that she would like to get her a gift card for Christmas to Rue 21, so she can get something. DSD also wants to go through her clothes and give what she doesn't wear anymore to her, as well (mostly Aeropostale and Old Navy clothes, in excellent condition).

I just feel so bad for this little girl!

Unfortunately alot of people are going through this. I just found out after knowing my DF for 3 yrs that his parents have never given him Christmas gifts. I made a huge deal out of Christmas for him this year (the first one we are spending together). He can't believe how much my family is doing for him. I couldnt imagine Christmas not being special growing up. Some of my greatest memories as a little girl.

I won't help her mom out anymore, because of the bad choices she continuously makes, but I will do what I can for her daughter.

Can you ask a local church to help the little girl :confused3

Is there anyway you can play Santa for the girl? There are a lot of sales going on right now and $50 could buy a lot. Of course, I realize it's a bad time of year to be spending extra money.
