THIS JUST IN - POWELL RESIGNING

I read an article that said her position was being eliminated and that the heads of DL paris, DL and WDW will now report directly to Chapek.... Siiiiiiiigggggghhhhhh

I posted in a different forum and it was moved here as the more appropriate location. Please disregard, as I see this matter is already being discussed!

1) It was time for Powell's end before it she started.
. . . although some reports said she resigned, her post was eliminated
2) An ill-conceived plan to try to save-face for stockholders.
. . . Powell did little-to-nothing to improve parks or guest-experience.
. . . attendance IS STILL decreasing
3) Of course, it didn't help that "Star Wars Land" is such a terrible failure for the huge expense.
. . . She might not have been the instigator of the concept, but she had a large hand in it
. . . I was blasted when I posted how mediocre the "Land" was after the employee-trial-period.
. . . Folks thought I was too critical (though I thought the fast-food was very tasty).
. . . Now Disney states how low the ride and "Land" attendance are versus expectations
. . . Maybe my opinion was correct.

NOTE:
Alas, the latest round of Guest Experience Cutbacks continues to show Disney's disregard for their patrons.
. . . automated photos instead of live photographers at character-meets and other key locations
. . . discontinuing three live performing groups
. . . if attendance does not rebound, Disney might reconsider some of their cost saving activities of late
. . . possibly, Ogre (oops, I mean Iger) could sacrifice some of his bonus to increase guest pleasure

I don’t understand your first point.

She didn’t have a large hand in SWGE, she was in Paris for much of its development.

The fact Powell's position was eliminated while Michael Colglazier remains in place, makes me think that Chapek has been served noticed. He is now going to be held directly responsible for the results at the US parks and resorts specifically. If it doesn't turn around, they have Colglazier waiting to take his place.

We can only hope.

Galaxies Edge is the fault of pushing a damaged brand, mostly the fault of the rush to release episode 7 and Kathleen Kennedy’s naked mole rat colony giving Rian Johnson free reign to hack and slash. Meanwhile we get to visit whatever “Batuu” is and see random niche characters while focusing on expensive one time purchase merchandise.

Who was the idiot that gutted CBR and thought up the Skyliner? That's the person who should be fired.

To be honest, I never knew Powell's position even existed at the company and assumed that the heads of each individual resort were already reporting to Chapek anyway.

I do agree that blaming her for SWGE's failure is rather ludicrous. I mean let's be real: as long as Chapek can save Iger some money, he ain't going anywhere until a REAL financial disaster occurs.

It was a position that was created for her.

Where she did an outstanding job.

How so?

I go to paris a lot, and very little has changed there in about 10 years.

The only thing that has really happened in recent years is that disney decided to fix everything that had been left broken for years.

Which was a huge step in the right direction for that resort.

They added ratatouille. They are in the midst of a major expansion and renovation of the studios park. They have/are renovating all of the hotels. Disney village is getting work. They have added a ton of special events throughout the year as well.

Plus, Disneyland Paris is making big profits.

. . . She DID have a "hand in" the project.
. . . as the V.P. she could have asked for changes
. . . instead, she went along with "the party line"
. . . now, the G.E."land" and ride are sad, wit lower-than-anticipated crowd levels

They were over two years into the construction of SWGE when she got the job. By that point they were already all in on what we have now.

The entirety of WDW is seeing lower than anticipated crowds. This isn’t specifically a SWGE issue. According to you everything is a flop these days.
