Wednesday 28th June 2006
After two full days at Universal (more than 24 parks hours!!) we decided to take it easy today. Craig took the girls to the pool while I tidied up the room a bit and did some washing.
After the quiet morning we headed out for a late lunch. We all got to have a say and we unanimously chose Sweet Tomatoes. The selection was slightly different at lunch but just as much choice and just as tasty.
We popped across the road to Factory Brand Shoes where Holly got a pair of Ocean Pacific flipfops for a bargain $5!
The girls were booked into Animal Kingdom Lodge kids club from 4 .30 pm so we headed down the now familiar I4. Animal Kingdom Lodge is an amazing place. The lobby was vast and the atmosphere was friendly. It took no time at all to find Simba’s Cubhouse. First impressions were very good. It was lovely and cool, nicely decorated and the girls spotted trays with their names already on – a lovely touch.
I signed them both in and they chose their meal from a selection and then they were off! I was given a pager and slip of paper and told not to lose them or we would not get the girls back. Are you thinking what I’m thinking? LOL!
Craig and I headed back to the car to drive to the Boardwalk. We somehow ended up at the toll plaza for Epcot and I sheepishly told the CM where we were trying to get to. She grinned, gave us directions and we were off again. The directions proved to be spot on and we were soon parked up and at the Boardwalk. It was lovely and relaxing here. We then caught the boat to Epcot for a wander around World Showcase.
I made a beeline for Morocco and was delighted to see that MoRockin were setting up to play. I love their music. I had looked at their site online and they were even better to see live. I acquired my love of middle eastern style music when learning belly dancing and I could hardly keep my hips still during the show! They were joined on stage by a belly dancer who had some lovely moves but she didn’t smile. I thought she was a bit lacklustre and I was disappointed. I hate it when something is not how you imagined it would be.

Craig and I looked around the bazaar in Morroco which I just loved. There was lots of music with some of the CMs drumming as well as shoppers having a turn. I picked up a small wooden box and slid the side open only to see a snake pop out and bite me! Thanks goodness it was just a trick. The snake was wooden and the ‘bite’ was a fork of metal but gee whiz, what a fright!! I had to buy one to show the girls. It was $10.

We wandered into another shop that had coin belts for sale. A CM came over and tied one around my hips and put one of those beaded head pieces on me as well. Lastly she gave me a set of zills (like metal castanets). She started to drum and I started to dance. All my pent up energy from watching the show was released as I danced around the shop. I was having a great time. The CM called over a male colleague whom she said was a much better drummer and things really took off! I had a blast and was grinning from ear to ear. I was vaguely aware of a number of people watching me but I didn’t care. The drumming got faster and faster until I could dance no more and burst out laughing. I got a round of applause from those watching, LOL. What a fantastic time! And the CM got a sale as I purchased a set of zills for $20. Great sales technique.

Craig and I then headed around some of the other countries. I really can’t remember doing anything in particular we just took in the sights ands sound around us. It was a very pleasant way to pass the time and great not having to worry about the girls wandering off or keeping them amused. Whilst we were there we saw an amazing storm with huge forks of lightening. Walking back through World Showcase we passed a building in Japan and thought we heard an electrical ‘fizzle’ and wondered if it had been stuck by lightening? That’s a scary thought.
All too soon we headed back to AKL to collect the girls. They were not pleased to see us and told us they had made new friends and were having lots of fun. However, I reassured them that the fun was not over for the evening and they reluctantly came away with us. Cost for club was $20 per hour ($10 each). They had both made a lovely picture and had also made fab frames using some craft items and lots of glue!
We headed to the Beach Club for ice cream. Yes, we were going to Beaches n Cream. Mission for the night – consume a Kitchen Sink. MMMMMMmmmmmm. The café was busy so we took a pager and headed into an arcade 'conveniently' situated next door. The girls were distracted enough not notice that we waited about 40 mins for a table.
We were seated at a table in the middle of the café. We asked our server if we could have a Kitchen Sink without any nut products and he quickly arranged for the chef to come and discuss our requirements. Rowan has a nut allergy but it is not severe – she just can’t eat them. The chef assured us that he would personally supervise the making of our Kitchen Sink and he did indeed do this. Cost of Kithcen Sink was $21.99.
Before long the lights flickered before going off and an announcement was made. Something along the lines of, ‘You’ve read it on the menu and wondered what it looks like. Well here it is, the Kitchen Sink. Scoops of every flavour ice cream and sauce, whole cakes, whole cookies, sweets, a can of cherries, 3 chopped bananas and a whole can of whipped cream!!!!’ Cue a round of applause and some very red faces. One guy came up with his mobile phone and said, ‘The guys back home are never gonna believe this!’ Loads of people were craning their necks to get a better view. We thought it looked delicious and tucked in.
I’m not sure how many bowls we all ate but I think we did rather well. You can see the before and after photos. Whilst we were eating people kept looking into the dish to see how far we had gotten but we didn’t finish it. Two more were ordered whilst we were there and it was fun seeing how well they did. No more ice cream for a while though. I was stuffed.

Not fit for anything but digesting our treat we headed back to the hotel where we met the other 2 families who had travelled with us to arrange a time and place for dinner the next evening. We had suggested Race Rock and this had been met with everyone’s approval. We went to bed looking forward to the next day.
Tomorrow – Blizzard Beach and dining out at Race Rock
