This Isn’t Turkey?!? Part 14 Magic Kingdom – July 4th on the 3rd!!

If you have missed any days please see my Trip Report Index

Me, Sarah, 30 – only adult planner
DH, Craig, 32 loves holidays, hates planning
DD, Holly, age 9 loves rides and hoping to try Kraken, loves planning
DD, Rowan, age 7 never been on any big rides, fearless (or so she says)

Monday 3rd July 2006

Today was a great last full day. In fact was an absolutely fantastic day.

We all slept in very late and woke feeling refreshed. Whilst the girls were having a bite to eat Craig headed to Sports Dominator to buy a couple of fitted baseball caps. Once he was back he took the girls down to the pool while I packed our cases.

We headed out of the hotel about 4pm and decided to eat at Friendly’s. We all wished we had come here sooner as it was a fantastic meal. Craig had a double entrée and double side which was steak and chicken with rice and chips. Holly had a kids Double Trouble burger with waffle fries, Rowan ordered Dippin chicken which had real chicken dippers on sticks, fries in a cone and 3 sauces all in a spiral holder. I had a Honey BBQ Chicken Supermelt and it was the tastiest thing I had to eat over there. I’m drooling just thinking about it! With drinks and 2 desserts (as part of the kids meals) this came to $42 plus tip. Our server was the friendliest (groan, no pun intended) we had met and the atmosphere of the restaurant was great. I would definitely come back here again.

Suitably stuffed we headed to Epcot where the girls signed up to Leave A Legacy at a cost of $25. We have since received our proofs and they are great. It seems a really original souvenir for so little money. Sadly, Leave a Legacy closed on 16th June 2007. :sad2:

Next we headed to Magic Kingdom where we hoped to see the special July 4th fireworks ‘Fantasy in the Sky.’ We asked if we could ride up front in the monorail and were delighted to be allowed to do so. The driver was chatty and told us that crowds were expected to be in excess of 65,000 that night! We gave him a Scottish flag pin and he gave us 4 Monorail Driver cards. We were very pleased.

The park was a completely different place to what it had been the previous week. Red, white and blue decorations were everywhere and every Disney employee must have been working. They were everywhere and doing everything, even standing blowing bubbles in Main Street. The atmosphere was brilliant and we were very excited to be joining in with the celebrations.

We headed to Space Mountain and secured fastpasses for after 11.30pm!! I pestered Craig and the girls into riding It’s a Small World and we joined the standby queue which took a good 40 mins or so. All the cast members were really on the ball tonight and queuing was very well organised and there was lots of friendly chatter. The ride was just as I thought it was going to be – cheesy cute but good fun. Holly and Craig were unimpressed though and we had to wait in a long queue of boats before we were able to exit so we heard a lot more of the tune than we intended, LOL.

We wandered around to grab a space for watching the fireworks which were to be on at 9pm tonight. It was shoulder to shoulder in front of the castle which was red, white and blue and it took ages to move a short distance. We bought a couple of light up necklaces for the girls and we had 2 flags to wave as well. It was such a great feeling to be there and we chatted to a number of people and I parted with a few Scottish flag pins.

The fireworks show was amazing. It was an incredible sight to behold and with the narration and music it was spine-tingling stuff. The fireworks were sometimes all around us, 360 degrees and were mostly red, white and blue. The blue stars were fabulous and the finale was truly brilliant. The applause was thunderous and we cheered with everyone else. Magical stuff!!

Once the fireworks were over it looked like we would be going nowhere fast but all those extra staff who had been entertaining earlier were put to good use and were directing people very efficiently. Bridges and paths had ‘lanes’ for each direction and it was very well organised. We headed over to Adventureland and walked through the Swiss Family Treehouse which was great fun but quite dark at this time of night. Upon exiting I was showered in water and as I looked around for the source as few people laughed and one shouted ‘it was the spitting camel’ I saw the camel before I got soaked again. LOL, must remember that one on the way back.

Whilst deciding where to go next we heard that Pirates of the Caribbean was open early. We joined the queue and had a wait of about 30 mins. I was delighted that we had the chance to go on this ride but I was disappointed. The new Jack Sparrow animatronics were excellent especially the end scene but it made everything else look really dated. It was OK but not as good as I hoped it would be.

We decided to head across the park to use our fastpasses for Space Mountain but stopped by Aloha Isle first for pineapple Dole Whips as recommended by fellow Dibbers. Rowan decided to have chocolate ice cream covered in loads of sprinkles but Craig, Holly and I had the pineapple floats. They were scrummy and huge!!

We reached Space Mountain and were on very quickly. We loved it as much as the last time. It really is a great ride. We were sad that it was our last ride of our holiday.

We slowly wandered back towards the castle and down Main Street going in to the shops for some souvenirs. I like the way the shops all flow into one another. We take our time as we are not keen to leave because we have had such a fabulous holiday and we are not sure when we will be back. There are tears in my eyes as we exit the park and we all look sadly back at the castle wondering when we will be back.

We take the monorail back to the car park and we head back to the hotel for the last time. I hate doing everything for the last time wherever we are on holiday – it is just too sad. The clock says 2am as we fall into our beds and we fall sound asleep within seconds.

Tomorrow – The long journey home :sad2:

What a day to end with! :woohoo: Love the 'Leave a Legacy' tile - I hope to do that with my DD in October...

Its a family tradition with us to finish a trip in Magic Kingdom. Sad to hear leave a legacy is finishing, does anyone know what they are going to do with all those unused marble pillars :confused3

Lovely last day, what a shame about leave a legacy closing, Im so glad that my daughter and I had this done in 2004.:thumbsup2

The last day is really sad

How sad that it was your last day, but what a way to finish!

Sara. :)

A lovely last day. Magic Kingdom sounds like it was extra magical on that night. princess: I could feel myself getting sad for you that it was your last day, I hate that feeling. So pleased that we have our Leave a Legacy tile now that it is shut.
