This isn't right

AMEN! I don't expect Disney and certianly not VMK to teach my child any morals or life lessons.

I can't believe someone even intimated such a thing.

I started this thread to have a debate but people seem to be taking it personally. Why can't we discuss something we like or dislike about VMK without getting lectured about what kids do and do not need to learn or how we need to not play or any of the other personal stuff?

I am sorry but we need to remember that VMK is run like a business. There are paid employees and we are in fact customers. We night not pay for VMK but it does not negate the fact that it is a money making enterprise. Disney does nothing for free, you just need a visit to one of the parks to know that lol!

What do you all think that Kelloggs paid for the association? What about production part of Disney that put out Herbie?

It is really too bad that we can't have a open discussion without bring child morality into it :rotfl2:

I think the people who didn't agree with you had every right to post their
opinions, don't you agree? In my eyes, it was a debate, and there were
pros and cons. I don't understand what this response is about. :confused3

IMHO, it's a free game, not a subscription game like Toontown. I don't think
people should be taking getting the costumes as seriously as they are.

From my own experience, should I have been upset when I was in DL last
July and couldn't get the Space Suit, Sorcerer Hat, or Tomorrowland 8/9 pin?
No. I was eventually able to get those things. (Space suit was a gift from
you, in fact, after the Tomorrowland games came out!)

My point is, I don't see why people should complain about not being able to
get something, when perhaps somewhere down the road, they can either
buy or trade for it later. (I traded for the Sorcerer Hat before they sold
it again, and the pin was a staff gift.)

That's just my experience. If I were at WDW or DL this weekend and
couldn't get to VMK Central for whatever reason, I am not going to
complain about it. I like getting all the costumes, but I know that I have
to miss out sometimes.

I'm already sick of the kids who feel entitled to beg for everything without
earning credits like we do. I don't think life would come to a standstill for
them if they can't get a stinkin' costume.

I think the weekend event was run perfectly! I had no problems with it at all. I think VMK has every right to make and change the rules of every event they come up with. I think they just keep getting better and better Maybe they are trying something new....maybe they will read all the whining about it and change it...who knows and who cares.
I look forward to Monday...when this is a distant memory for all.
I for one would like to give a big shout out, Woot Woot to VMK for listening to our concerns and making appropriate changes to make our free game more fun every month.
And as a parent, I for one will applaud any person or venue who can help teach children good morals, values or life lessons....sure it is the parents job...but we all know that doesn't happen 100% of the time. You can never have too many good morals.

Just my 2 cents added to the debate...

Could not have said it any better. Thank you. :thumbsup2

My DD had a birthday party this weekend and I have been very very busy and have not had much time to be around the boards or vmk but I did find a few minutes to get myself a full costume but for her I managed everything but the pants........you may ask yourself why......I tried to get her the pants but got a black screen that lasted forever.....I had a full house of little guests, yelling, screaming and giggling all weekend......I tried to go back a few hours later to try it again and was disconnected....by the time I was actually able to sit down to try it again the time frame for the free event was over by 15 minutes......I told my DD that I was not able to get her the pants but I got her everything else.....her comment......Oh well, Thank you anyways......at least I can wear the shirt and mask with a purple skirt or purple pants.......To be honest with you.......I felt sad about it and she seemed like she could of cared less.........maybe sometimes the adults feel worse than the kids do over things.........I know I did!

I have to agree- the kids seem to want everything right away- but when someone simply says- sorry we missed it and there is no way to get it now- I think the kids will move on far quicker than any adult would.

I know when it comes to my daughter- she wants it all but when it is time to spend her own credits for things she is a little more reluctant to spend the big credits for things- lol

When I knew about this event ahead of time I knew for Saturday I wouldn't be able to go on and wasn't 100% sure what my husbands schedule was- so I let my dd know that we got the shirt and we will get the mask but may miss the pants- she just shrugged and basically asked if she could take over my computer and just play with what she did have. As a matter of fact she did get to play on Saturday and when I ran her character through the game on Sunday she was wearing her dive suit- didn't even have the super hero costume on lol-

so complaining about the suit not being tradable I can understand- I know there are kids out there who are just flat out not allowed computer time every day- but I'm sure those same kids will go on... even if it was tradable it would be mostly as gifts because it wouldn't have that great of trade value. But I'm sure there are many who stocked up in hopes of it becoming tradable later and hopefully making a profit off some of the same kids they are upset for... And some will do like me and run a few mules through so that the poor things can have some clothing that I hadn't sold off for credit before- but I only ran through my few mules that I actually play regularly as well.

But I don't understand complaints about "not enough warning"- I mean if they had warned us a month ago- someone would still come up with some complaint about them not giving enough information. VMK has always seemed to just do things- it hasn't been all that long that we got much of any warning about anything that happens on vmk. My husband is terminally clueless- he isn't on DIS everyday and rarely looks at the vmk homepage- so had I not mentioned it to him- he would have missed it all this weekend- and with the exception of the fact that he apparently likes the pants for their sheer ugliness it wouldn't have phased him.

I think it has just become a habit- everyone likes to complain about VMK events- many have been far from perfect- but we have seen a trend of improvement. I think they were treating this event similar to the ride track, snow carpet and ice chair and everset chair rides- but by making the item one per person and not tradable the multiple mules that rode and rode and rode in the previous events did not participate this time. And it worked- there weren't really long lines- if you played that day and went to the event you could get the item.

Yes some missed out- some because they couldn't get on, or because they had a life outside of the computer, or just because they were clueless like my husband. And once the word gets out- that those aren't tradable so you aren't getting them- even the kids will get over it.

And yeah I don't think VMK should be a place for hard life lessons- not getting a purple suit isn't a hardships in life- but I would like to point out- that VMK does have life lessons everyday- you learn to interact with other characters, to get along, to play games and keep trying to get through, patience with waiting in queues only to dc when next in line at a staff game, creativity with development of game rooms and guest rooms, the art of haggling and trading (and some tougher lessons have been learned by young members getting scammed in the past), even the whole "taken" thing is a life lesson in boy/girl interaction.

And I guess Aprincess' dd's reaction best describes a lot- and I do agree I think with many things we adults (I'm guilty too) are much more upset by things in the name of our kids than the kids themselves.

oh and on the issue of "debate" you have to have differing opinions to have a debate- if everyone had simply agreed to the original poster then this thread would have long ago disappeared off the front page. I think it is good to have differing opinions- because sometimes people need to see both sides of the issues and the point to not take it all personally should be heeded by all posters on the thread

Scenario 1: One costume per person, not tradable
Result: no lines, you get a costume for free, people not on that day don't get costume

Scenario 2: One costume per person, tradable
Result: More lines, people create many mules that vmk does not particularly want, people not on that day could trade alot to get costume

Scenario 3: Many costume per person, tradable
Result: Ridiculous lines, people not on that day could trade to get costume

So for the people who just want to go on VMK and get a costume, Scenario 1 is better.

i for one am very pleased with how vmk fixed the event problems. no lines, no crashes...

but i am really upset of the no trading part. i didn't have a chance to get pants and mask. i have other things to do then to sit around all day and go on the computer. I know VMK was made to promote Disney, but come on! they should know that ppl have lives and it isn't good for your health to be on all day.

and for the ppl who think it is fair, i respect your opinion. we are titled to say what we want about what ever we want. but i think that most of the ppl thinking it is fair probably have the whole costume ;) .

I really do hope they re-sell(or make tradable) the costume and mask. it would only be fair. I understand that they might be trying to stop scamming but it is just silly. they have never made thediver suit tradable again and it has been a long time.

again, this is only my opinion. i am not pointing any fingers in this post but talking in general.

thank you for your time :wave2:

Yes... that is correct... Irish has dreams of being a pretty pretty princess with a matching my little pony.
Shoot, girlfriend. You and me both! Talk about unfair things-- where are the princess dresses for boys? Let's get on the stick, Mr. VMK.

I agree with everybody who has posted on this thread. Especially with those who will now sign my petition:

"Dear Mr. VMK,

I want my princess dress. The pinker the better.

Thank you."

Ricks (who is no Ed Wood, ladies ;) )

Don't have a peice? No biggie... deep breath... watch Dr. Phil if you need to make youself feel better about it all...

This is horrible advice! After reading this I quickly turned on my TV and waited intently for the show to start. Well...I watched and let me tell you, he had the nerve to go on talking about some issues some people were going through in the real world, totally unnecessary, and then continued by telling them how he would hook them up with some help. How is this supposed to help me feel better about those "rad" outfits!? Easy, it doesn't! I don't care about that unimportant stuff, I want to hear about the purple, super cool, totally awesome, tight, and completely flattering hero costumes! Thanks Irish for climaxing my spirits for nothing whatsoever! Geez, girl!

I strongly agree with posts #62-67. :thumbsup2 I believe that this is in fact functioning as a debate. There are two (and even three) sides to the scenario being discussed and individuals are siding with one of them. Members are expressing opinions and personal attacks have not been made (other than a very uncalled for PM I received).

I still feel that this event was handled well. I even have firsthand knowledge as I ran rooms for Babs throughout the day. I really appreciated the fact that VMK took players' suggestions into account and created a smooth, well-run queue and event system. Likewise, players did not have to scrounge for credits as the costume pieces were given out for free. :cool1:

I personally believe that this costume will become tradable and available later on. This has happened with many other items and costumes; there's little doubt in my mind that this will not take place again.

The tradable issue is not that big of a deal to me. I have one piece to the costume myself, I might add, not a full set, and still feel this way. I did not make a conscious effort to go on so I do not have a full costume. It is not a life-shattering disappointment for me.

Similarly, children who play ultimately will or already feel the same way. As a teacher, I recognize wholeheartedly that parents sometimes make a huge issue out of something that is not truly upsetting a child. For example, a colleague of mine recently dealt with a set of parents who literally harrassed school administrator's to give their child a 504 Plan. They wanted teachers to underline/circle key words on modified assessments, extra time on assessments and assignments, plus more. After the plan was written and initiated, a teacher scheduled a quiz. She passed it out and then walked over to this child to circle key words in the directions for him. The child told her not to as he does not need this done and that it is even more distracting for him. It was later admitted by the parents that their sole purpose of fighting for the plan was so that their child would receive unlimited time on the SAT's while in high school. Their son, mind you, is just starting middle school.

The entire point of this example is to show that it is true that some parents/adults make a bigger issue out of things considered to be trivial to children. While the initial reaction of the young players may have been disappointment, they now recognize what they need to do in the future to prevent a similar occurrence from taking place: stay current with VMK news, budget time better, etc. This allows them to apply organizational skills they should be learning both in and out of the home to a real world situation.

I strongly believe that daily life is full of important skills and lessons. While I am not advocating VMK as a primer for them, I do recognize that such experiences as this weekend's events can support them. Ultimately, it is up to the child's first teacher, their parent(s), to teach them social and organizational skills. Unfortunately, this is not always the case even in the most avid districts such as that I teach within. :confused3

I had all of my mules go on VMK and get their costume pieces. I imagine that most people had most of their mules get costume pieces, too. Even with this, the lines weren't bad at all as long as I searched for "choose".
