I have been a dance teacher for the last 10 years with our local park and rec department. Short dance season, low pay, HORRIBLE costume issues every year, etc. I am actually waiting for 4 leotards to come to my house (recital is on Monday!). We had our dress rehearsal last night. I was racing around like a chicken with my head cut off. No one had costumes, as they had just been delivered to my house, and I taught 8 classes this year (usually I only have 5), with about 90 students, so I was trying to get that all organized, plus be on stage to help the kids.
Every year I think it will be my last, it is sooo much stress on me this time a year, and this year I have been very disheartened because I had about 8 kids drop out of class on me (I think parents need to make kids honor their commitments, but that is a whole different post!). But after every group of kids went, and I was talking to them as they were leaving, I had so many parents come up to me and say how impressed they were with the girls, their routines, and how much they learned. Boy, can that make all the bad feelings go away!
