This is why Edward is NOT sexy...

I've been telling my daughter for ages that Edward sneaking into Bella's bedroom to watch her sleep isn't sexy, it's just plain creepy. And here it is, happening in real life!

'Sleepwatcher' targets young women
By QMI Agency

Halifax Regional Police have released four sketches of the man locals have dubbed "the Sleepwatcher."

Since 2008, Halifax police have responded to 20 reports of a man sneaking into young women's homes and watching them sleep.

In most cases, the women were unharmed, but a recent break-in turned physical, police said.

"It's of our concern that this has the possibility to escalate," said Const. Brian Palmeter of the Halifax Regional Police.

So far, police have released four sketches of the man Haligonians have dubbed the Sleepwatcher.

Palmeter told QMI Agency that police believe one man is responsible for several of these break-ins, though in many cases, police weren't able to glean a description, so there's no way to be sure that all 20 cases are connected.

The general pattern is that a man sneaks into a woman's home through an unlocked door or window, watches her sleep until she notices him, then flees the scene.

There have been three such break-ins in the past two months, one of which, on Sept. 19, became violent, Palmeter said.

"It's alleged that he touched two girls and it would have been for a sexual purpose," said Palmeter.

Palmeter said there was another report of a man touching a victim about a year ago, but it wasn't of a sexual nature. "It was almost suggested he was perhaps trying to wake the person up," he said.

The victims have all been university-aged women, but police urge everyone to lock their doors and windows.

Police have no suspects.

(It's also not sexy when he follows her down the road in his car.)

I agree, I thought that was so creepy too.
I actually thought most of what he did and how he behaved were creepy and I only saw the 1st twilight movie ( and read the 1st book only).

Scary stuff. I am lucky that I never had to tell DD13 that Edward is not sexy. She read it before i did and HATED Edward and could not understand why all her friends thought "the sparkly, creepy stalker" is sexy and not hilarious.

Now make the guy in the OP's story 100 years old, and think how creepy Edward really is. :scared1:

DW picks on me all the time about my Twilight rants, but I'm glad to see I'm not the only one out there who can sees problems with the books.

Yes, not only is he creepy and a man with 100 years experience preying on a 17 year old girl - ick - I also can't get my head around the massive plot hole that allows them to go wild when she gets a paper cut, but be in a High School full of girls where a quarter of them will be "on" at any time and yet not rip *their* throats out.

And yes, my 13 yo loves him too. :confused3

It is pretty creepy. Of course this has been mentioned, but it's also upsetting that Bella can't seem to function without Edward in her life.

Now, I know it's just a story that we shouldn't take too seriously, but some elements are slightly creepy.

It's a series about vampires, it's SUPPOSED to be creepy :lmao:.

:rotfl:

I personally think Edward isn't sexy because he makes the strangest facial expressions, has bad hair, and drinks blood

He is a lot sexier in the books then in the movies though :lmao:.

But the creepy parts are what most young girls think is ROMANTIC!!! The stalkerish behavior, the "I must protect you, I know better than you what's good for you", her being so dependent on him for happiness, the fact that he's 100 years old and she's 17- ick.

I never saw why he was supposed to be the big romantic hero of the books. Just because he's cute, that doesn't make him perfect. I'm glad DD isn't into the books- she thinks they are dumb.

Regular vampires are creepy.. Edward is supposed to be sexy and cool. I wouldn't say that watching someone while they slept or following them in a car are normal characteristics of vampires. That all being said, I don't know any vampires.

It's a BOOK. It isn't real life. I guess I don't see where a boy that is acting like a gentleman is really all that much of a big deal.

My 11 year old son is vampire obsessed and had me read all the books to/with/for him (by for I mean when we came to a passage with too much sex talk he wanted me to read it for him and summarize) when he was 9. At first I was unsure if I wanted my 9 year old reading this series.

But in the end, I loved how many opportunities this gave me to clarify my family's values with him. Things like "If you're in love with someone you don't climb in their window and watch them sleep".

We also talked about the way the book made the stalkerish/obsessive things Edward and Bella did seem OK, because they worked. Inevitably Edward would bribe Alice with a car to get her to kidnap Bella, and it would turn out, coincidentally that that was the exact moment that newborn vampire army sent out scouts to investigate her home. (See, kidnapping is a good idea!). It's about as subtle as putting buxom women in beer ads.

Finally we talked about the irony of a book that's based on the premise that you don't choose who you love, being used to generate money for the Latter Day Saints, some of which is used to fight gay marriage.

If a boy climbed in your daughter's window to watch her sleep, or had his sister lie to you so he could spend the night alone with her in his bedroom -- would you consider that "acting like a gentleman"?

ITS A BOOK--

If someone attacked my DD while out walking I would certainly hope her boyfriend would step in and do something-THAT is acting like a gentleman.

Edward is in her room every night-she has a big poster of him hanging on her wall :lmao:. She knows she is not allowed to have real boys in her room and so far we haven't had any problems.

This is completely untrue! The L.D.S. owned bookstore refuses to sell any of the Twilight books, at all.
