My DW picked up 4th-grade DS(9) from school on Thursday and he said he couldn't go yet. He needed to talk to Mrs "Smith", a first grade teacher. She was intrigued about why he would beed to talk to her, since she wasn't his teacher.
They tracked down Mrs Smith and DS says to her that he needed some help because one of her students was playing innapropriately with him and his friends. That he was pretending to kick at them, following them around the playground and not giving them any peace to play. He said it was getting really annoying and that he didn't know what to do to get away from this other boy. Mrs Smith said she understood and explained to DW that they had been working very hard with this child on many levels. Mrs Smith complimented DS on coming to her and said she would speak with all the first grade teacher to keep a closer watch on his activities during recess.
Ok, problem solved. DW heads out of the building with DS and when she walks out the building she is immediately accosted by the child in question's grandmother. "Is this the boy?", she asked her grandson? He nodded. She then lauched into a tirade with DW (and DS) that my DS had been bullying her GS for weeks and she wanted it to stop. She said she she was going to immediately report him to her GS's teacher and the principal.
DW calmly told her that she had just spoken to Mrs Smith about the issue. She explained to the grandmother that she thought it unlikely that DS was a bully because he is very nurturing and has weekly since 3rd grade volunteered to be a kindergarten "buddy" and helps out in the kindergarten classrooms.
DW looks behind the grandmother and GS, now unattended by his grandmother has walked over, dropped his drawers and IS PEEING ON THE WALL OF THE SCHOOL!
DW tells the grandmother that she would be happy to talk about this with the teacher, but that perhaps she may want to corral her GS first? Grandma, turns around and SCREAMS at the kid, "JOHNNY! HOW MANY TIMES HAVE I TOLD YOU TO NOT DO THAT!!!"
DW and DS took this opportunity to pop back into the school. The principal was standing there and asked if she could be of any assistance. It's a small school , and she knows all the students, so DW said that she did need a little help and briefly updated Principal "Johnson" about the situation. She also let her know that Grandma would be in as soon as she got GS to stop peeing on the school... DW asked if she would like them to stay to talk together with Grandma about the situation. Principal Johnson said no, she knew the boy, that there were big issues there and that she would handle it.
DW took DS home. I got home and DS and I took the dog for a walk. I asked him about the incident at school. He said, "Dad it was really freaky. This old lady just came up and started yelling and saying that i was a bully. I was really glad I kept my cool. I thought I was going to be in a lot of trouble until the kid started peeing on the wall."
TOO FUNNY.
Next day, Prinicpal Johnson pulled DW aside and said they had put the first grader on a playground contract that specifies what areas of the playground he can be in. If he starts bugging other kids, they can walk out of his zone and he is not allowed to follow. Kind of like an invisible fence, I guess. Makes me very glad to have well adjusted kids...
