There is this cat that shows up at my door...actually the whole neighborhood's door. Beautiful calico...her markings are as pretty as I have seen. Everyone is feeding her, and over time guess who she decides to adopt...BINGO! there's my sucker!!!!!

I have been thinking for weeks..."you need to take this cat to the SPCA". But being the procrastinator I am...never did it. Well this morning Sadie needed to go to the potty...I am rushing around...and lo an behold..there's the cat. I call her and she starts walking to me and guess what???? She cannot walk on her left back leg. (insert expletive here)

Ok, bring her in to my DS who is working for/wants to be a vet. (Sadie is trying to grab her from my hands, I am trying to not get scratched...get the picture here?) DS says if you take her to the SPCA, they will put her down immediately. (2nd expletive)

OK. Kennel her in Sadie's kennel...send her in to work with him. Hopefully we can figure something out.

Diagnosis....sliced open paw pad which has become very infected. Medicine, xrays, office visit, anesthesia to get xrays and cleaning out done. DS estimates somewhere between $150-$250 minus 30% discount. Now this would not have happened if I bring her into my house like I want to 3 months ago, but you see as much as I want her I CAN'T have her because DH is seriously allergic to cats. So she is now boarding at the vet...and he will try to find her a home and I am paying for all of it. (I think another expletive would work here).

Now, I am not looking for you are so good, kind person etc etc etc...I am venting. Looks like no Big Kahuna at Destin next week.

PS...anybody want a cat???????

I have a cat already.

You are a very sweet person to do this. So many people would just ignore the poor thing. You deserve a big hug.

((((((((HUG)))))))

I hope they find her a home. I have a feeling they will!

The same thing happened to us when we moved into our house. This gray cat comes along and I keep telling myself not to get attached. Well guess what....he got sick also. Ended up being a holiday weekend when we had to take him to the vet. So on top of the hundreds of $$ we had to spend to get him well, we also had to pay extra because it was considered an emergency visit.
We ended up keeping him for about 10 years before he finally passed away. He was one of the best friends I could ask for....
Except everytime he got sick, it was a holiday. After the third "emergency" vet visit, I said to DH, "Do you see a pattern here?"
Good luck finding her a good home. You obviously have a good heart and won't regret it.

If you are dumb for caring about an animal then count me in the dumb category too. I would have done the same thing. Except I'm allergic to them.

I would have done the same thing. So would DH, but he would tell me that it is my fault because I feed the stray cats! We have 4 feral kittens running around our neighborhood if anyone is interested. I'm not allowed to get another cat until we get new carpet next year.

You are a good person Donna …ok so maybe a little “Dopey” but still a good person….;)

When I was growing up we were the cat drop off family of the neighborhood. I swear we must have had 100’s of cats in our back yard over the years. My mother would curse the cats but still buy cat food for them every week. My brothers and I would build “cat houses” in our yard for all of the cats. (yes that was the big joke in the neighborhood..charlie,nj’s family runs a “cat house”)

We would take the cats to the vets to get fixed and get repaired. A large city is a dangerous place for a cat even with 9 lives. One memorable repair job was when we found a beautiful gray part Persian cat with his tail hanging off by a piece of skin. We took him to the vet the vet cut his tail off about two inches from butt leaving him with a two-inch tale. You will never guess what we named him…yes he became known as the “Pig”.

You are a good person. That’s great that your son wants to be a vet.

At first I was kind of offended by your thread title. LOL

Second, I was certain that your kitty was going to end up in a family way.

She is lucky to have you. :)

Cali the Calico found us the same way. She was starving to death and I took her in. She has hurt her foot or leg a few times also. DH is allegic, but as long as he doesn hold them or give them kisses :p :teeth: he is fine. Thanks for taking care of kitty!:D

Donna, I think you are kinder than dopier. ;) :p :D

Today, DH found yet another box turtle (This was the 6th). He had a cut on both front legs and his left back leg was broken and healing from a gash... we doctored that turtle...I hope he lives. I swear, having a child has totally changed my freetime activities. LOL

Very kind. I brought "Lucky" home from the gas station about 5 years ago, because some man tried to kick him. I was about 6 mos pregnant at the time, so you can imagine how I gave that "man" a piece of my mind. I called DH and he brought the cat carrier and I had every intention of finding him a good home. Well, $190 later...shots, neuter, declaw guess where "Lucky" (named, because he was Lucky I brought him home) lives?

I really didn't need him as I already had 1 cat and 1 dog. However, he is the friendliest cat I have ever seen. I swear he thinks he is a dog. My youngest dd loves him and he loves her. So, I guess we all got "Lucky."

I'm sure your rescued cat will find a wonderful home especially with DS watching over.
