I learned a huge painful lesson yesterday and I wanted to share it with you all. I go on my computer every day for a few hours, 7 days a week. I get annoying pop ups, but never ever anything obscene in nature. So I guess I didn't realize how easily they might come up. I am the only one who uses this computer, so I have no child block on it. Well, yesterday, my daughter and I were talking about painting her room (she is 9) She wants to have a nintendo border, she is a big gamer, so I told her to go on google and do a search for nintendo wallpaper border, and maybe we could order some online. Well after a couple minutes she came and got me in the kitchen and told me something bad was on the computer. I don't know if it was someones cruel sick idea, but anyway, she did find sights that said nintendo wallpaper, and when she clicked it on it immediately went to a pop up of a horrible pornographic image of an oral sex act. I tried to remain calm as I kept clicking this thing off the computer, and it kept popping back up. Then I was hoping my daughter didn't quite understand what it was but unfortunately while she was telling her dad about it she said "a mans private parts" My daughter has not learned about the birds and the bees yet, heck, she still believes in Santa. So I am completely sick over the fact that she saw these images. I just told her that there are sick people in the world, and that is why she always needs to be so careful, there are people who would link a sight like that to a sight a kid would go to searching for nintendo stuff. She says that person should go to jail...I agree ! I just couldn't believe, I let her on the computer alone for one minute, and something like that would come up. Is there anything else I should say to her about it? Thanks for letting me get this all out-Eileen
He was searching for music download sites, found one called kazza or something and clicked it. We were all in the living room at the time (where the computer is) and he let out a gasp! I glanced up and he is paniced, saying "I didn't do it!!".
From now one, the second the computer goes on, the pop up blocker is put on. This is so sad that we live in a world where we HAVE to watch the kids every second...including in our own homes.
