This is really silly, but...bringing your own bedspreads?

The most economical place for our family of 5 is POR. But I really, really don't like the decor in the Alligator Bayou. Don't get me wrong...I LOVE quilts and grew up with quiltmakers. But the bedspreads say "grandma's house" to me and not "vacation." Would it be totally ridiculous to take our own bedspreads? I know dh will laugh at me, and I know it probably won't be worth the hassle...just fantasizing . I told you this was a silly question.

This is funny to me because someone else posted they felt like they were at grandma's house when they stayed in the mansions.

Unless your grandma lived in a log cabin, I don't think you will feel like you are at grandma's house in the alligator bayou.

I guess it's not totally ridiculous to bring your own beadspreads if you have room for them in your suitcase. (although my gut instinct is to say "that's ridiculous.") If you do, you might want to let housekeeping know so nothing happens to them.

But I think it is kind of silly. I don't know that mine would fit in a suitcase and it would absolutely need its own if it did. Why haul an additional suitcase? Just turn the thing down if you hate it that much.

I hope you like the resort more than you are planning to. I really thought I'd hate the Orleans resorts, but I didn't. I don't love them and won't go back unless someone else's heart is really set on it - they just aren't my thing - but I liked them well enough.

Good luck!

This is the first I've read of someone wanting to bring their own bedspreads because they don't like the ones that come with the room! I personally don't spend enough time in the room that I care what they look like, as long as they aren't filthy. But whatever floats your boat!

If that helps you enjoy your vacation I say go for it. My feelings are that I am not living there for years but for a week or so. I can live with any decorating in my hotel room.

I agree.

I bring my own pillow. But not because of the decor. Without it, I will not have a good nights sleep and I am miserable with neck pain the entire trip. ;) If it will help you to sleep better or add enjoyment to the time you spend in your room, you should take it with you.

To me this is silly, but to the op..I understand to you it isn't. That being said if you have room to bring bedspreads, then go for it. I personally wouldn't want to have to lug them along.

I have stayed in both the AB and the Mansions. I liked the mansion room decor better, but AB wasn't that bad at all. It is more of a rustic feel, but that did not bother us in the least bit, it was still a nice room.

Totally ridiculous? No. "Totally ridiculous" is posting pictures of your dead-for-a-year and decomposing turtle for all the DIS to enjoy! ;) :lmao: http://www.disboards.com/showthread.php?t=1534687

Whoa. I'm with ya there, Cool-Beans...

But as for the spreads, do what I did...take them off the bed and fold them in a corner. When I did this, mousekeeping re-made the beds using an extra blanket, and sandwiched them in between 2 clean sheets. Not fancy, but certainly neat and clean.

Do your bedspreads from home say "vacation" more? To me, I don't WANT my bedspreads from home, kwim? And really, I've stayed at POR in Alligator Bayou, didn't find it "grandma-ish" at all. Bedspreads are big, and how does that affect Mousekeeping? They might find it odd to be expected to make up the beds...then what do you do with the bedspreads already there? To me, a vacation is just that...and dealing with the hassle of finding room in your baggage for 2 double beds, making your beds everyday...ehh...hassle!

I want to get away from home on a vacation, so to me, looking at the same comforter I see everyday wouldn't be all that vacation-ey.

Ask yourself how much you're really going to be in the room. When we're there, we are only in the room to change clothes or sleep. The rest of the time we're out enjoying our vacation.

Do the bedspreads really offend you so much that you can't stand to look at them when you're in the room?

i'm not sure if it makes a difference but with the reality of bedbugs, i'm not sure i'd personally be inclined to bring any bedding that i planned on bringing back.

Well, the bedspreads usuallly match the rest of the room's decor. Are you planning on bringing curtains, paint and wall hangings too? If you dislike the bedspreads so much I would advise you to choose another resort. You may still feel at grandma;s despite the new spreads, kwim?

I totally agree......is it cause we're from NY?? LOL :rotfl2:

I sense that many of us might have issues that would seem ridiculous to others. I would switch resorts before I'd bring bedding, but if that's your thing...:)

i've seen rats the size of house cats. i'm not personally that worried about bedbugs, but it seems to be a concern, so just throwing it out there.

You want to bring bedspreads because you don't like the way the ones in the hotel LOOK?

I thought this was going to be another thread about dirty bedspreads.

You must have huge suitcases.

I would go with this idea, or go to a resort that gave me that overall vacation feel.

Isn't the whole reason Disney has resorts in different themes and styles is to make a wide variety of people happy?

Rather than wasting your time with bedspreads, take the time to visit allears and find a resort that fits a style you like...much better bang for your buck that way.

17 replies? I really wasn't expecting that! :lmao: Realistically, I know I won't be bringing my own bedspreads, regardless of how much I don't like the Bayou ones. I just needed to see it up on the screen so I can slap myself out of the idea. :upsidedow Switching resorts isn't an option...with 5 people there's really no other way to go without going up in price. (Or I can sneak one of my kids into a 4 person room and we can start a fun debate about that. ;) )

Now I've got a thread with dead turtles, bedbugs, and rats...oh my! :rotfl:

Thanks for all the replies! I really do appreciate the input. :flower3:

Now you can make it 18 replies! :lmao: If the bedspreads make you feel like you're at "grandma's" and not on vacation...wouldn't brining your own from home make you feel like you were STILL at home and not on vacation??? Can you just turn the spreads over??? It may be something different on the other side...maybe just white??? I don't know...I have never stayed at POR.
