When the wife of the hunter who shot it opened the refrigerator door, the duck lifted its head, giving her a scare.

What kind of hunter comes home from a hunt and puts the entire bird into the refrigerator?!?! And what kind of wife would let him?!?! YUCK!!

I'm married to a bird hunter. This would never happen in our house. First thing DH does is clean the bird (which would kill the poor thing if it wasn't already dead) and then put it in the freezer for later consumption.
