This is getting insane and possibly stupid (long sob story)

OK, so I did TOT with some sort of foot problem that had been bugging me since the beginning of Oct. Don't know what it is and haven't been to the Dr. about it b/c it doesn't hurt all the time or in the same place and I know he'd be like "You're nuts. Come back when something really ruptures." I took a week off in early Oct. and it got a bit better, but it acted up at TOT (thanks to the off-road bit -- I'd've been better served staying on pavement). So I spend a week at WDW after TOT gimping around, unable to train, just trying to hang in and see the sights.

Then, two days before we're supposed to come home, I come down w/the worst cold ever. Pros to this: it's kept me off my foot for a week and a half. Cons: another week and a half of training gone.

So I'm supposed to be doing the Goofy in 9 weeks. I'm still not "well" -- I'm still hacking, etc. so I don't want to go outside in the cold to exercise. Plus my foot is subject to acting up at any time, so I'm trying to coddle it. All this while training, at least in some form.

So what have I devised? The nuttiest program I've ever done. I get on the treadmill for an hour. When I start to breathe heavily, which hurts, I get off and do an hour of Yoga. Then I get back on the treadmill and do another hour. Then I get off and do another 1/2 hour of yoga. That's this week's "long run." Best I can do. Next week, we'll have more intervals of TM and yoga. Pros to this: it's allowing me to do some exercise, while not going outside in the cold or working my breathing up to the point where it hurts. Also, the TM is softer on my foot. Cons to this: it's not the "real" training I feel like I need and it's starting to get a little insane with me jumping on and off that thing and hitting the yoga mat.

I'm so frustrated at this point. I feel my second goofy slipping away and there's not squat I can do about it. I want to cry, when I'm not laughing at the ridiculousness of myself. I've had to toss my training plan in the trash and start winging it, while praying that my foot holds up in January. If I'm lucky by thanksgiving I'll be able to get outside and really do some distance, but then we have to see what happens to the foot.

Sorry to burden you with my troubles. I'm just sitting here asking why, why WHYYYYYYY. Back to your regularly scheduled program.

Your long sob story is one that, I am sure, most of us can relate to..at least I can! ;) Hang in and never think that your training regime is crazy. If it works, that is all that counts. I have been battling PF since about a month before ToT and there are days it gets me down too. I have started walking in with my running(oh Great Panda would be proud :worship: ) We all have to find a groove that gets us through. Here's hoping that your Chi realigns pixiedust: and you find that happy place!! :beach: Most important, NEVER GIVE UP!!:cheer2: :cheer2: :cheer2: :cheer2:

In a perfect world we would all train exactly right and be perfectly well, and never miss a beat. In a perfect world, anyone could do what we do. Training is training and I suspect this kind of training is beneficial, too. I am sending you lots of good wishes!

I am sorry to read this, but proud of you for figuring a way to keep moving.

I know you don't want to go to the doc, but maybe it would be a good idea. You might find that using an orthotic might be just the thing to get your foot through the event.

Get well soon! See you there.

Those foot problems aren't possibly shoe related are they? Are your shoes worn out or are you wearing something different than you did before?

Hope you heal up quickly, this Goofy training is heard enouth when you are healthy.

It is miserable to be injured and sick when you are trying to train!

Personally, I would break down and see the Doctor. The fact that you are having breathing issues alone would be enough but the foot thing is another reason to go in.

For the foot, I would head to my nearest serious running shoe store. The men at fleet feet helped me figure out a foot issue that no one else could. Turns out I needed to lace my shoe differently. It worked and the help was free!

Meanwhile, it sounds like you are very determined and the training you are doing is probably helping more than you know.

Good Luck!

Go to the doc - I think you haven't a different system there than we do, so I'm not sure what your equivalent is or how easy it is to see one, but I've never heard a sports physio/sports medicine specialist tell you off for coming to see them when I problem wasn't too bad, so if you can get to see one of those they'll totally understand.

They're even used to people walking in saying 'okay, the answer is not 'rest' as I have a marathon in eight weeks - so here's my problem and how do we fix it while I still run stupid long distances'
