DznyRulz first of all I didn't really know where to post this ? I think the thread I was looking at was a sticky or something. It was a picture of an eyeball:scared: You said it was a gator :scared1: I'm from upstate SC we only have gators at the beach. Do you think I will need to worry about the kids getting eaten:sad2: Really though is there a big gator population at the fort? Also someone said something about armadillos, we don't have those here either. I have never seen one. Do they hang around at FW?
P.S. some of you guys are insane :rotfl2: I have so much fun just reading y'all go back and forth at each other:)

Don't worry about the gators,,I'm pretty sure they are animatronics,,the armadillos only bother you when they travel in gangs,,the real problem is the otters,,,they are shifty and sly and will only befriend you to get to your beer.

I'm sorry,, I have no idea,, someone will be along to answer you.:thumbsup2

Frank - you are too crazy! LOL

The alligators are only in and near the water. They do NOT come up into the campsites - you don't have to worry about them.

Armadillos root around at night - mostly in the brush/woods area. They are harmless. They don't bite. They won't steal your food, like raccoons do. They are scared of you. Think of them as a bunny with a shell. :)

The only wild life I've ever seen at the fort was the turkeys, and they were in the site next to us.

The otters dress up in gator suits to scare people and then they steal their beer.

Don't worry about gators.

I hope we get to see an armadillo! I think that would be neat. My first thought about that picture of the alligator is, we probally will not be watching the fireworks from the beach (LOL,NO REALLY) I'm sure my 12 old Steve Erwin wanta be will be thrilled to know alligators live in the lake. I personally will be happier thinking they really are animatronics.

Personally, I was disappointed I didn't see other gators. I thought it was neat to see this one but I was hoping for a bigger one. The one in the picture was maybe 4' long. I won't tell you about the fish story I heard from one of the guys on lake patrol but it did cause me to be observant which is how I spotted this one. I don't think there is anything to worry about but it is best to keep an eye out if your walking near the canal or near the secret fireworks viewing spot, especially at night, just in case. Disney does a great job removing those hazards that might eat paying guests. As far as 'dillos go, we've only encountered one and fairly regularly. He seems to hang out near the corner of the main road and the first left turn, after passing the Outpost bus stop. We did hear one running through several sites one night. Those things can really move.

I hope we get to see an armadillo!

Back in the 60s when we were out hunting we hadn't seen anything all day, so when my friend saw a 'dillo he shot it. He went over to look at it and it wasn't dead. he bent over it and the thing jumped straight in the air (they do that) and hit him right in the chest. Knocked him out! :lmao:

The moral is make sure they're dead before you bend over them! :lmao:

Boil it a little longer, it softens up the shells. ;)

Appost ta yoos de shale fer pik'n de meat outta yer teefs wunts yer all dun eatn

I was there for gator mating season and saw quite a few....but they arent there for pickin off little kids or pets...they are there to eat the tons of fish in the lake and get a little gator tail....but just to be safe...dont let the kids or pets too close to the edge of the water without taking a good long look first. Rhonda's right....lots of 'dillos....but you wont be able to touch one(not that you would want to), they are a bunch of well protected wussies!!! The campground bunnies are probably more dangerous than the dillos are. Try to avoid givig spare change to the otters...they say its to feed their hungry children, but they only use it to by beer.
