When I was a kid, one of our dogs disappeared. We lived out on the edge of town & sometimes those things happened in the countryside, that a pet would disappear...

Anyway, a YEAR later my mom gets a phone call from a woman who lived in a town at least 20 miles away, on the other side of a major river *AND* even in another state. She says that she has our dog. My mom says oh that can't be possible, we haven't lost a dog for pver a year. The lady says well he still has his tags on I called the county courthouse & they said he's your dog.

I was sick with the mumps or measles...one of those diseases we used to get, so I couldn't go with them, but my mom and brother got in our old station wagon and drove to this woman's house.

They drove up, the dog was staying in a car in the yard. He saw my mother & brother and jumped up on top of our car. Then he jumped inside the car.

It WAS OUR dog, "Tawn"! Missing for a YEAR. He'd only been at the house for a little while, a couple of weeks I think.

My mom figured out later that a neighbor who didn't like the dog(the feeling was mutual on Tawn's part!) and had a running feud with him had probably taken the dog across the river, across the state line, *way* into this other state. Tawn made it back as close to home as he could but he never did like swimming too much. He got as far as the river and could go no further.

Tawn never did roam much after that. We had originally gotten him from the local dog pound & just fell in love with him - he jumped at least 6 *FEET* straight up (with joy, I think) when he were looking at the dogs through the fence. He was a great dog and quite a character - fathered a litter of puppies the summer before he died, almost ten years after he came home.

Sometimes I still miss him. This time he's been gone for at least 20 years.

agnes!

What a great story. Its never too late to wait for your dog to come home.

If you have any local animal rescues you should call them too. Our escape artists use to get lost from time to time so I know how scared and worried you are. When you find him/her, get her chipped. We got our dog back after a week because a local rescue ran a chip check. I hope you get your baby back today.

I just read this thread. I am so sorry that your Blue is missing. :grouphug: She is a beautiful dog. I hope she finds her way home to you real soon. Please keep us posted!!

I hope you find Blue soon!

Two years ago my DSis lost her dog and I posted here on the DIS also. Lots of good ideas from previous posters here. DSis put out lots of flyers, in mail boxes and local businesses, and kept walking the neighborhood, talking to everyone. After 2 days someone called her and said he knew a dog fitting her dog's description had been picked up by animal control that afternoon. It was too late that night but sure enough when we went out the next morning they had him.

I hope you have a good ending too. Just telling you the story to help keep the faith. It can happen :)

so sending good thoughts your way . . .

Nothing on Blue yet but, something very interesting came to light today. When I got a hold of her Vet to let them know in case someone shows up there with her they said she is the 2nd collie/lab mix from our neighborhood to vanish this past week. :confused3 I don't know the other familty but the vet said they are about a mile from us. Coinsidence???I'm not sure what to think now. I talked with the police again today and they are keeping an eye out for her. We live in a small rural community and several of the officers even know Blue. A friend of my DD's put Blue on the prayer list at our church. I just found that out today when I saw our Assistant Pastor. How nice of her to do that.

We did have a bit of uplifting news today too. Aunt Sandy doesn't even know this yet. We have a new litter of Kittens!!!!

I'll update everyone tomorrow on Blue. Thanks everyone for the words of support and encouragement..

Keep praying!!!

Last summer we were keeping my brother's dog. He's a Min Pin named Diablo. He's played at our house many times but I think this time he knew that his dad was going away (he took a week long trip out west). The first morning I let him outside he got out of our fence somehow and was gone. We walked the neighborhood, put up posters, drove through and talked to people along the route from our house to his. Most people seemed to think if someone did find him they would sell him...he's worth a few hundred I guess. We checked with his vet and the animal shelter daily. We even left bowls with food and water on the front porch for him. After that first day we called my brother and he was so upset but encouraging us to keep looking. I later found out he didn't eat much if anything for the next few days.

Day 5 was a Sunday and even though we had been praying all week long we called the whole family that Saturday night and asked them to pray also. We got ready for church, said a prayer as a family, headed to the garage to get into our truck, opened the garage door, and guess who comes running in???

DIABLO!!! I have never cried over a dog in my entire life but there I was, there we all were, crying and hugging him. We wonder if we will EVER know where he was those few days.

Hope Blue arrives safely home soon!!! Our dog ran away during a thunderstorm once, and after 3 days we were starting to give up hope of finding her. Then someone at my dad's work said he'd seen a dog that could be ours on a farm about 8 miles from our house. Dad left work and drove out there and found her - sad, scared, tired, and dirty, but safe!

Sending prayers your way...

Me too. My kitty, Oogly, disappeared for 2 weeks. Came home on Easter Sunday. Next day, gone again. Came back a few days later, gone again. We watched her and she has set up duel households. I am ok with it. They really spoil her. She comes home at night, hangs with them during the day.

Today, on National Prayer Day, I will say a prayer for Blue. I would be devstated if I lost my dog, Lulu. The Bible says that God watches over even the sparrows. I am a whole-hearted believer that he watches over all animals. Good luck with finding her!
