This is a "no brainer" right??

DH, DD (5 yrs), DS (2 yrs) and I are going home to VWL Dec. 5 -11. We'd been planning to drive (we've done the drive before and actually enjoy it, but with kids this age, I suspect this trip might not be so fun). I just checked Southwest for ha-ha's and all 4 of us can fly non stop from Hartford (30 mins. from home) to MCO for $700. I can only justify flying if driving would be a break even (and if flying will be less stressful because of weee ones). DH - who would rather drive - told me to buy the tickets, but I'm still hesitating. Gotta decide right now or they'll probably be gone. Any advice??

If you can afford it, I would fly. You could then spend more time at WDW!

I've never driven but with 2 little ones, i could imagine it would be quite tiresome.

buy them. even without it being break even, it will be less wear and tear on all of you. You don't need to get to WDW with tired kids and parents from the long drive.

Fly, without question! We were considering driving from here (metro DC) with our two children (DD is 3 years and DS will be close to 1 year) and we opted to fly because the airline ticket prices were just too good.

Also...check the prices on Independence Air with their sale -- you would have to connect through Dulles, though. I did check http://www.mobissino.com and found a good deal with Song for your dates -- totalled $706.80.

One thing to consider - you will be in the time of year that bad winter weather could hit, making driving difficult.

I'm guessing driving could save you a couple hundred bucks, but is giving up 2+ days of vacation worth the $$$? I say "fly"

My husband & I have driven to WDW for the last six years with 3 children (since they were "wee ones") and have never flown. I can not seem to justify spending $750+ (with rental car) because I know how far that money would go at WDW.

That being said . . . I'm from Alabama. It only takes us 9 1/2 hours driving time (11 hours total) to get to WDW. My children are WONDERFUL riding in a car (I guess since they've been doing it since they were babies).

Yes, this is a "no-brainer" . . . FLY! I could not imagine driving from CT! If the drive is over 12 hours, that would be my breaking point. Fly, you will be much more relaxed when you get there and have more vacation time. Have fun!!!

or should i add my FLY to the chorus?

defintely worth flying! (what is the cut-off for free fares for babies? the 2yo might be free if you are willing to hold him on your lap)

we have driven every time but maybe 4 out of the 22 times in the last 10 years.

st. louis to disney is 1,000 miles and 15 hours.

the only time i will fly is #1 if it's cheap and #2 if we are not staying an entire week.

in 14 days we are going for a 4 day weekend, so we bought some cheap tix and are flying.....arrive 10:00am saturday...depart 8:pm tuesday.

I say Fly, but don't forget. If you fly you will still need to get from the Airport to your resort and then back again. So, that means renting a car or sometype of shuttle service. This is another expense you will have to factor in vs. driving.

We have driven (from Cleveland) every time we've gone. It takes us two days going and two days coming back. We always said we couldn't justify flying because it was so expensive for the 4 of us (DH, DD13, DD9 and myself).

We go back in July of 2005, and this time we're FLYING!!

We found decent airfare with Spirit out of Detroit. $133 RT per person. It's worth the 3 hour drive to save a couple of days traveling. It will cost about $200 more but our sanity will be in tact when we get there!

Just like everyone else is saying, I say FLY, FLY FLY!!!!!:earsgirl:

Thanks everyone, and I bought the tickets to Fly. We're going on Southwest non-stop, and is $706 for all of us. Yes, we need a rental car (we're planning on doing some visiting - to the folks who were going to be our neighbors in Central Florida if we'd moved this summer!) and that's an added expense, but I think the "grown-ups" will be much less stressed upon arrival than we would be after 22 hrs. in the car. If our trip was a couple of days longer we'd probably drive - and pray for good weather. The kids don't know we're going, so we're going to wake up the 5 y.o. that morning and say "get dressed - we're going to WDW!" Thanks again everyone.
