July 10 - A Pirate's Life For Me
maxresdefault.jpg

Let's leave the restaurants and go ride a ride.... the best darn ride in New Orleans Square:
Pirates of the Caribbean! This is the last ride that Walt Disney had a hand in designing. It
opened in 1967, just three months after his death and boasted effects so realistic that the

Anaheim Fire Chief though there were real fires inside the ride. Woah!!!

The upper levels of the ride hosts the Disneyland Dream Suite, launched 2006 as part of the Year of a Million
Dreams. You could win a nights stay in the suite and have a great view of Fantasmic! along the Rivers of America.

... But back to Pirates. :)

Disneyland's Pirates of the Caribbean is much longer (and better!) than the Magic Kingdom version. After
two wild drops down down down, you enter into treasure caves (like the one shown in the sample picture) and
end in the Burning Room as you begin your journey back up to the main level of the ride. It's one of the
most fun attractions at Disneyland, rich with history and popularity. And a few random Captain Jacks within the ride.

Question of the Day - July 10
The lyrics of the song mentions the line "drink up me hearties, yo ho!"
Let's talk fluids and your intake of them. How are you doing on drinking more healthy options
rather than sugary drinks and sodas? Have you cut out your alcohol intake or are you limiting drinks?

Or... are you a pirate and someone will lose a hand if they try to steal your bottle of rum, aarrrrr?

Bonus questions: Which versions of the ride have you ridden? Do you sing the infamous song while on the ride?

I don't have a problem with the alcohol - as I don't drink it regularly - however, my difficulty is sugary sodas - I have mainly switched to coke zero or sugar free sprite. I am better at drinking water when I am at work. This is definitely something I will need to get more of a hold of in the future .... but I can't do it all at once. Oh yes people are definitely in danger of losing a hand if there is only a small amount of soda left in our fridge - I do limit how much my kids can have hoping they won't develop the taste as bad as me .... they know if there is only a bit left its MUM'S !!

Bonus questions: Which versions of the ride have you ridden? Do you sing the infamous song while on the ride?

I have only ridden the Disneyland version - but I have ridden the version pre Jack Sparrow before the movies came out and the current one with the Jack Sparrows.
No I don't sing lol.

Checking in - I'm at 25% of my goal of walking 30 minutes 20 days this month.

May I join this group? I have started a diet program and love all things Disney!

Hi All,

I'm happy to be joining the group. My name is Stephanie, and I am 44. I am from Sterlington, Louisiana. I have a husband of 15 years, two sons who are 5 and 9. I also have a Step-daughter and son-in-law and a grandson that will be 2 in October. I have been a chemist at chemical company near us since 1997. BUT, next week is my last week of work. I am quitting or I guess "retiring" to be able to help more with the kids and help my husband with several businesses that we own. My work hours were very long, about 60 per week, so I had no time for anything mush less losing weight and getting healthy. We are DVC members and travel to WDW a couple of times per year. It's about 850 miles for us.

I have been overweight a really long time, and this past year, it's really gotten worse with me gaining roughly 50 lbs. I have lots of back injury and that contributes but I have to get with a program and stick to it. I started my diet this past Tuesday and the hardest part hasn't been no carbs, it's no DR Pepper. LOL I am on a very low carb diet & high protein.

My goal this month, before July 31 is to lose 9lbs. I know it's a hard goal, but the diet that I am on should make this happen if I don't cheat:)

Thank you for welcoming me to the group and I am so glad to have folks to begin this journey with.

Welcome to our group! So happy to have you along! And congratulations on your upcoming "retirement"!

Best of luck on your new healthy eating plan! My DH has followed the Atkins plan (off and on, but mostly on) since 2010 (and a few attempt at it previous to that) so if you are looking for any recipes or meal ideas, let me know!

Good Morning Everyone! I can't believe it's Friday - holiday weeks always throw me off. It feels like about Wednesday or Thursday to me. My fitness activity is walking. Walking, walking, walking. What I make up for in not getting my heart rate way up (meaning, not running), is distance. I've been averaging almost 20,000 steps a day - which is about 4 times more than I averaged when I first got my fitbit. That's why it feels like a fitness activity to me. Sometimes I feel guilty (I may have mentioned this before) for not doing more, but then I figure - if it ain't broke. . .

I'm feeling a little sad this morning. My son is at his first sleep away camp and (unlike most camps) he's allowed to contact me by phone and text and he's telling me that he hates the "sleeping away" part. He just turned 11 and I thought he'd be having a blast - like having a sleepover every night. Sigh. I almost wish he couldn't contact me because there's nothing I can do about it.

I'm sorry that you are having to sit there and not help your DS the way you might like to be able to...... but I can relate. My DS has never been a clingy type of kid.... he was always fine leaving for school and overnight visits to grandparents and sleeping over at friends (although he never did overnight camp). But he took a trip abroad Sophomore year and called the first night in tears about hating the city he was in (they were only there one night) and wanting to come home! HE WAS ABROAD.... and I was home with no passport... and my BIG happy "no complaints", easy-going boy was in TEARS calling me from a foreign country! I just about died of anxiety that first night! I dreamed up scenarios where DH (he had a passport) flew to the country and "rescued" DS from this trip (that was my heart talking). But my BRAIN kept telling me that he would be fine and that he was probably just a little homesick and overtired and that once they got into the country side and got busy, he would be fine. DD has been on this SAME trip with mostly the SAME teachers/chaperones two years previous and she LOVED every minute of it (and she is MUCH more likely to be the clingy homesick type). Within 48 hours I was seeing pictures on Facebook and getting messages about how FABULOUS it was. When I talked to him about it when he got home he actually seemed a bit embarrassed that he reacted like that..... but he said that first city was really scary and dirty (keeping in mind he grew up in very quiet, very rural New England), but that after the first night he was fine. The HARDEST part was the fact that we couldn't talk often and so I had to really rely on what I saw on FB and the few messages we were able to exchange to gauge how he was doing.

Anyhow, my point is....give it some time. And even if he continues to hate the night time (that is usually the hardest part of being away), the fun during the days will probably outweigh it. Even if he comes home stating he never wants to go again, you can tell him how PROUD you are of him doing something that was hard! If/when he calls again, try hard to direct the conversation to what is going on during the day.... swimming, hiking, crafts, meals, friends....whatever. You may get a better idea of how he is feeling if he can talk excitedly about the daytime things. And a big virtual HUG from one mom to another.... you will get through this, I promise.

This is one ride I am looking forward to. I can't wait to see it.

Walking my dog is my form of exercise these days. I want to get back into yoga and I have been trying to get some yoga moves done in the evening to relax before bed.

My favorite Indiana Jones is The Last Crusade. I love Sean Connery in it. I think it is the best part of the movie. A local theater is showing it next month and the tickets are free so I really want to go.

Welcome

Today we mowed the lawn at my mother in law's house for the last time(My pedometer was at 8000 by 10am and it would have been more if I had to do one section that only had minor stuff to trim so dh did it with the weedwacker). My mother in law died in Feb and my sister in law is buying the house with her SO. We thought it would take all season for the selling and closing to take place but it will take place on the 18th of this month. Dh said he would cut it until it was sold. He has also spent some time trimming bushes so that the yard is in good shape. I didn't think he should do it since sil and SO live in the house. Dh's logic is that if they had to do the yard work they might not buy the house and then no telling how long it would take to sell. We are just keeping our fingers crossed that everything goes well on the 18th.

Have a happy and healthy day

Have a happy and healthy day

Oh my gosh... you've been talking about mowing DMIL's lawn for YEARS now! I cannot believe that has finally ended.

July 9 --- Onwards to New Orleans Square

Welcome to Blue Bayou - an experience all of its own. You're brought inside to literally dine within the
Pirates of the Caribbean ride. If you were to look across the rails you'd see the boats filled with travelers
just beginning their journey through the attraction. It's worth doing once - for the experience.
Your resident Disneyland Plaid found the food to be okay... but it smelled like Pirate water. Yuck!

However... let's focus on something cool... Club 33.

This is the original (and former) entrance to Club 33 - Disney's not-so-secret Secret Society within Disneyland.
It's located on the upper level of New Orleans Square - and is about $25,000 to join with a $10,000 annual fee.

It's the only place where alcohol is severed within Disneyland. And ... the one place where everyone wants to go!

Question of the Day - July 9th
Club 33 and Blue Bayou are two of Disneyland's signature experiences.

Has anyone here actually been to Club 33?! If so - brag about your experience!
What about the Blue Bayou - what did you think of the food, ambiance, and experience?

Anything on the menu of Blue Bayou look appealing?

Never been to Club 33..... in fact, we didn't even try to find the door during our 2005 trip, but I'd like to try this year!

Blue Bayou..... I remember seeing the restaurant when we rode POTC and thinking it looked cool. But we aren't big on table service meals, so I've never eaten there. But honestly..... I LOVE the smell of "pirate water"! That cool, damp, musty water smell that ALL Disney water rides have (POTC, Splash Mtn)..... LOVE THAT SMELL! DD and I catch a whiff of it other places and we IMMEDIATELY look at each other and comment on it! We smelled it when we walked under the rainbow bridge when walking a trail at the Niagara State Park a few years ago and the smell lingered for a while and I swear we walked slower just to stay near that smell! We call it the "Disney water smell".

Right now I have us at the Luxor, trying to stay on the cheap side but close to the start/finish line

We stayed in the main building (pyramid) at the Luxor in 2005 and LOVED the hotel!! Enjoy!

Bonus questions: Which versions of the ride have you ridden? Do you sing the infamous song while on the ride?

I stopped buying Diet Coke for the house about 8 years ago. I enjoyed it occasionally, but DH clearly had a full-on addiction (about 4 liters a day... we had a specific shelf on the fridge door dedicated to holding 3 2-ltr bottles and it was always full). It is terrible for you and I decided if he wanted to kill his brain cells with aspartame that I wasn't going to help him. During the following years he would buy 2 liter bottles himself to have at home..... then he started getting into the habit of buying a big "to-go" cup at the convenience store every time he had to drive into town (including EVERY TIME he was coming home from the gym....ironic, no?!). But about 500 days ago he decided to give it up, cold turkey (I stopped drinking it in about 2009). As far as I know he hasn't had a DROP of diet soda of any sort since then! WOOHOO! I still occasionally have a diet soda (usually Waist Watchers as it doesn't have aspartame) but I mostly stick with iced/hot tea, seltzer (I have a Soda Stream), or water.... and of course COFFEE!

Alcohol..... I definitely cut back on my beer consumption for caloric reasons, but that being said, I cut back from 1-2 on the weekends to 1-3 a month.... so I was never drinking a lot. But I really enjoy beer! Fancy drinks..... I do enjoy the occasional margarita (on the rocks with salt please!), but for calorie and budget reasons they usually only happen once or twice a year now. I usually buy a bottle or two of wine for Christmas dinner and a bottle of champagne to make mimosas for Christmas breakfast.... and that's about it. We actually have booze leftover from our housewarming party 22 years ago that is still in the cupboard (does vodka go bad??).

I've ridden both versions that are available on U.S. soil.... WDW many times, and DL just once or twice during my only trip in 2005..... but I remember liking the DL version better. Those big drops at the beginning are really fun! But the queue at WDW is better (IMHO and according to my old faulty memory). And yes, I sing along!

********************

Hey friends! Enjoyed my quick visit with DD and we pretty much stayed OP without any meals out at our favorite place...:( But it felt good to come home with some cash still in my pocket AND knowing that we didn't do any caloric damage. I brought the stuff to make a WW pizza for Friday evening (although 10 SmartPoints didn't fill my belly nearly enough) and then DD made us yogurt with berries for breakfast and I "fancied" up two WW frozen meals for lunch yesterday (I obviously got carried away buying them for her to have "in case of emergency".... she had about 10 in the freezer!!). She even shared a picture with me last night of her beautiful WW-friendly college fridge (she keeps a fridge in her room because the apartment fridge/freezer is small for 5 people to share). And she shared a picture of her and her roommates' food prep day and it was so lovely and healthy looking! So proud of her (and her friends) for not falling into the rut of being "traditional" college students and eating chinese food and pizza every day! Yeah for being ADULTS! ;)

I had planned a day of yard work and hanging laundry outside, but Mother Nature is blessing us with a bit more rain today (which is desperately needed, so I won't complain), so I will be doing some inside tasks. My bedroom is in shambles so that will definitely get some attention, I'm going to give my bathroom and DS's bathroom a deep cleaning, and I want to finalize my food plan for my quick road trip I'm taking with DD in 11 days. For diet and budget reasons I am going to pack and bring along the majority of our foods..... but our hotel room doesn't have a fridge or a microwave, plus the MAJORITY of this trip will be spent in the car (about a 12 hour drive each way)..... so this will be a challenge! Any suggestions??

Eggs for breakfast today, since I am home and have the time to cook and enjoy them! Plus my first cup of coffee is empty.... time to remedy that problem!

BTW, no progress to report thus far for July. Had a tiny gain this week...... I'm sure that my holiday weekend splurges (although there weren't a ton of them) and my lack of adequate hydration this week (I know because more than once I came home at the end of the work day with lots of water still in my bottle) contributed. Trying not to be stressed/depressed about it and will take strides to make sure it is gone this week! ........................P

In general I tend to drink water or tea at work and no added sugar fruit squash and tea at home. we rarely have soda in the house but I do drink Diet Coke or Pepsi Max when I'm out. My biggest weakness is definitely alcohol - my husband and I normally share three bottles of wine a week. We were up to four but we've cut back to Friday & Saturday plus one other night of the week (usually when it's been a rough day at work for one of us).

Hey healthy eating friends..... quick question (okay.... I'm not big on "quick", I admit it!).

DD and I head out for a quick road trip shortly and I'd like to pack the majority of our foods. Here are the restrictions/requirements if you want to help me come up with ideas....

We leave before dinner (hopefully) on a Thursday and drive for about 6 hours, stopping over the border in Canada (in Niagara area) for one quick overnight. Leave Friday morning for another 6 hour drive to Michigan (near Detroit). Friday evening DD will be at a "welcome reception" at the venue but that will be after dinner and not include food.

Saturday she will be at the conference all day, but there is about a 75 minute lunch break (lunch is not included) and the conference ends for the day about 4:30.

Sunday is up in the air.... it was going to be a travel day with the thought of possibly doing all of the driving in one day, but now DD thinks it may be important to stay for the post-conference bbq social on Sunday.... which means we wouldn't leave Michigan until about dinner time on Sunday (which means we would end up staying overnight somewhere on the way home). I REALLY want to be home on Monday because it is DH's 50th birthday!

So we need the following foods:

Thursday: Dinner and evening snacks

Friday and Saturday: Breakfast, lunch, dinner, snacks, and drinks.

Sunday: Breakfast, lunch, dinner, snacks, and drinks (I would not be attending the BBQ with DD, so it we stay for it I still need food for me).

Monday: Possibly breakfast and lunch plus drinks.

RESTRICTIONS/CONSTRAINTS: Our hotel room in Michigan does not include a microwave OR fridge (although it does have a coffee maker... probably one of those tiny 4 C units), nor does it include any meals. We haven't made any other reservations for Thursday or Sunday so don't know what that may include.

DD and I are BOTH determined to stick with our WW plan so we need to stick close to 30 SmartPoints/daily (sorry.... don't know how that converts to calories). As easy as it would be to just eat sandwiches three meals a day, that isn't much fun and I'm afraid if we don't have any "fun" meals planned, it will be tempting to go out to eat.

We will have a big cooler and I am contemplating bringing a full-size coffee maker and a mini electric skillet (yes, I know that technically the skillet isn't allowed in a standard hotel room.... save the lecture please and don't judge.... I promise I'll be safe and not make smelly foods!).
We are okay drinking water most of the day (I was thinking of making and freezing some infused water.... the first few days it will keep the cooler cold and then we will have fancy water to drink!) plus I'll bring some canned seltzers to relieve the water boredom.

Here is what I already have planned, but as you can see there are a LOT of blanks! HELP appreciated!.............P

Michigan road trip food:

Snacks: WW cheese, Babybel cheese, carrots and celery sticks, hummus, apples, grapes, bananas, diced melons, blueberries, SkinnyPop, WW mini bars, WW chips

Drinks: seltzer, tea, coffee, instant iced tea, infused water (frozen??),

Coffee/tea

Dinner:

Sunday-

Happy Sunday!!!
I totally gave up Dr Pepper to which I was severely addicted LOL last Tuesday. It's been ok, better than I thought!
I don't drink any alcohol on this diet, and consume after 2.5 liters of water per day. I drink Tea sweetened with Splenda for dinner and coffee with Splenda for breakfast.
It's been a challenge so I hope this week at weigh in that I am down a few lbs!

I have never been to Disneyland but want to go:)

Yes, we sing the song on the POTC ride at WDW!

Beginning weight on Tuesday was 250lbs
Today weight is 248.2lbs:yay:

I am still at 100% with my steps goal. This week I really want to focus on what I am eating. I kind of flaked out on my food journal, so I'm going to get back at it this week. I also decided I'm going to start using the incline on my treadmill a lot more.

I am very good at drinking healthy drinks, but I don't drink enough. I have never really loved soda and artificial sweetener makes me very sick, so I stick to water and coffee. I drank my coffee black for about 3 months recently, but decided that I hated it so much it wasn't worth it. I'm back to a little bit of milk and a dash of maple syrup. Last year at this time I was using 6Tbs of hazelnut creamer a day, so it's progress.

My husband grew up with soda as his main drink. He never drinks water. He switched to diet Coke a few years ago, but it still really concerned me to see him drinking can after can of it. Recently he said if I would make him iced tea (with a little honey) he would stop buying the Coke. He still comes home with a can of it from work once in awhile (he works at Microsoft and a perk is free drinks and soda) but I'm glad that it's not his main drink at home.

I think Pirates is one of my very favorite rides. I remember thinking that it had more drops than it does and now that I've read the description here, I see that I was remembering the ride at Disneyland.

Last thing, which is very exciting to me... my husband is at the gym right now hopefully signing up. He's been talking about doing it for the last few months and is finally there. His exercise of choice is swimming, so I hope they'll be able to convince him that they maintain the pool well. He is also talking about doing some kind of class where he can dance around a little, lol. So, I will never be joining this gym... :)

I use to love soda but I have recently stopped drinking it(3 months ago). Instead I allow myself one sweet tea on days I go out. I have gotten so much better at drinking water in the past couple of years. I use to avoid it like the plague. I am not a big alcohol drinker I have a cocktail or glass of wine once or twice a month (of course I write this after touring a local distillery in St. Augustine this morning:rotfl2:)

My first time on POTC was at DL and then when I got to WDW I was like where is the rest of the ride :confused3 Of course I sing along, we even have the song on CD for car trips pirate:

Has anyone here actually been to Club 33?! If so - brag about your experience!
What about the Blue Bayou - what did you think of the food, ambiance, and experience?

Anything on the menu of Blue Bayou look appealing?

I've never been to either one. I'm way too poor for Club 33, and I've actually never done any sit-down dining at Disneyland.
I wanted to do Blue Bayou for my big birthday trip, but since I'm not doing my big birthday trip ... ugh. It's on my list for my next trip, whenever that happens to be.

A few years ago my parents took up running. They're in their early 60s. They have run a couple marathons and are pretty obsessive about it. My mom actually broke her femur the day after a marathon (probably mostly broke it running and it snapped when she was getting up after playing on the floor with my niece). Anyway, my parents are constantly injured with this stress fracture or that pulled whatever. Most people probably don't run to the point of breaking things, but they do. They have said more than once that they want to be an example to us not to quit things. What??? lol Anyway, it's kind of turned me off of running. I think if I could complete the couch to 5k program for myself, without telling people, I would feel like it was a big accomplishment though. We'll see.

It's great that your parents are trying to stay active, but ... I can't imagine constantly getting injured. I know some people have a lot of injuries, but there's definitely a point where I'm very surprised that people don't just try something else. So I can totally see how that would turn you off of running.
But it's definitely possible to run without a lot of injuries, so don't let your parents' experience scare you off if you think you'd enjoy it!

I tend not to worry about calorie burn with exercise. Exercise = healthy & happy, calorie counting healthy eating - weight loss.

I love this! Exercise should be something you enjoy, and if you eat well, that should help with the weight loss.

I've been almost exclusively a water drinker for about 3-4 years now, maybe a little longer. I was never a huge soda fan, so it wasn't the hardest thing for me to do. If I am craving something bubbly, I usually just have seltzer.
I do occasionally drink non-water things ... coffee a few times a week, OJ or tea occasionally, sometimes Vitamin Water if I'm feeling really exhausted or sick after my run. And I always have a few sips of wine on the weekends, but really not much (really just sips ... less than a glass).
Once in a while I'll have a beer, but really very infrequently.

Bonus questions: Which versions of the ride have you ridden? Do you sing the infamous song while on the ride?

I've ridden DL and WDW. I like DL's a little better, but I really don't like either one very much. And I definitely don't sing the song.

---

Hey guys! I had a rough few days Friday and Saturday, but so far I'm doing better today! I'm almost at 25,000 steps today ... between my run this morning, Costco shopping, and a museum, I've gotten a lot of walking in.

I know many of us are too young for this, but for those who are not ...did anyone visit the World's Fair in NYC in 1964-1965? My dad and I were in that area today, visiting a museum that's located in one of the pavilions and then just walking around the area. It was nice to spend some time with him and hear his memories of the World's Fair. Plus, we saw the fountains on at the Unisphere, which I've never seen before:

I was on Pirates a long time ago so I really don't remember it since I have been on the one in DW so many times.

We are cutting out sugary drinks in the house since dh was just diagnosed as prediabetic. I don't drink and dh will have an occasional beer. The best thing I can do is make sure I have a big bottle of water in the frig to make sure that it is very cold when we want a drink.

Funny story about Pirates. The first time we took ds1 to DW we took him on Pirates and he hated it(He was 3 at the time. It was 1988). We don't know if it was the noise or the darkness but he said he never wanted to go on it again. We never pushed it and didn't mention it to him again. One time we were walking to Jungle Cruise and we were passing Pirates but we never said let's go on. Ds1 turns to us and says he wants to go on Pirates. He has loved the ride since.

Yes there are times we sing the song but then again ds2 and I have been known to sing Christmas Carols while grocery shopping.

I know many of us are too young for this, but for those who are not ...did anyone visit the World's Fair in NYC in 1964-1965? Sarah I am the one who mentioned the 1964-1965 World's Fair. I lived right outside the city growing up so we went a couple of times. That was the first place I met Chip and Dale. We never went on It's a Small World since it cost money and we had 6 kids in the family.

It has been pretty quiet here today. We are just about a month away from my ds1's wedding. I was also just asked by my other son's fiance to help her pick out lace for a small jacket for her wedding ceremony. She has a strapless dress and is getting married in a church so she wants some coverage. They are getting married next April. Then in 10 weeks is my next wedding of my niece. Too many things going on right now but it is all good.

Pamela I will try to think of some things that you can use.

Have a happy and healthy evening

Settling down to watch tonight's Big Brother (anyone else watch?) after a good day. I did my 2nd 10 mile run today and I was a little sore in the hips/ankles. Spent the rest of the day at the pool which helped loosen me back up and I'm feeling better. I knocked off 3:30 off my last 10 mile run, but I really hit a wall during mile 7. I'll get better.

My alcohol intake has definitely gone down. At first, I cut out diet soda completely. Now, diet soda is back in, but in limited supply. The past few weeks I was drinking too much soda and this past week I've tried to cut back again. It's a process.

My water consumption has really gone down since the summer started and I need to drink more. During the school year I do well, but not so much at home.

-------------

I've done the DW POTC both before the recent update and after, but not the DL POTC. I was afraid my daughter wouldn't like it last year, but she did pretty well with it. I don't think I ever sing along with it, but I might be guilty of humming it during the ride.

Love this question! I am a complete failure on the healthy drinking concept. I start the day with three cups of coffee coffee (sweetened with Stevia). I do usually drink water with dinner (this part is OK). Sometimes I have water with lunch, sometimes a diet Coke. I just simply don't drink enough water. I rarely drink in between meals, and if I do, it's generally because I'm out and about and pick up a Diet Coke at the cash register of wherever I am. I have no idea why I don't drink in the middle of the day - I used to when I was at an office all day. I think it started when I became self employed - I was home virtually all the time with very small children and having bottles/glasses of liquid just hanging around was a recipe for disaster. Now that I could actually have a glass with water out on the table for a bit without it being knocked over - I've gotten out of the habit!

I don't generally drink alcohol due to the calories, but if I do I do it on my "free day" (usually Saturdays). I don't like wine, but most other alcohol is great in my book.

Bonus Q- I've only ridden the WDW ride, and no, I've never sang the song!

Thanks everyone for your support on my son's camp woes (especially you @pjlla - your story really helped). He's back home now (it was just a week long camp). He definitely got a little more positive as the days went on, but he still says he didn't like sleeping there. Oh well, maybe a few months out he'll feel differently.

Also . . . Checking in for the week - I've gotten at least 140 active minutes every day from the start of the month (1st through 9th), so 9/31 = 29%

I am horrible with my fluids. I may only drink about 10 oz of anything in a day. I trend to drink more pop. Drinking more water and not drinking pop will be a goal on month.

I have been on the ride in WDW. I do sing the song.

If you have not already done so, please submit your weekly summary via
personal message or posting here. We're missing quite a few.

It needs to be a percentage - please do the math for me :)

We're going to head along the Rivers of America and make our last stop in New Orleans Square:
The infamous Haunted Mansion. Disneyland's Haunted Mansion comes in two varieties...
Traditional and an extra special version September - December called Haunted Mansion Holiday.

(here's the entire ride from a couple years ago so you can see the changes!)

In its normal iteration, the ride is nearly identical to its MK counterpart. But during the Holiday season,
well... it's something quite delightful and amazing. Sandy Claws of Nightmare Before Christmas decorates
the haunted halls and a gingerbread house replaces the centerpiece for the 'swinging wake'.
Not joking - the gingerbread houses are pretty phenomenal and change every year.

The Advent Calendar from 2013 for the 13th year... and the Iron Maiden Gingerbread from 2014 are prime
examples of what the Disney folks can do with real gingerbread. So amazing, right? The Advent Calendar was
awesome because each week for 13 weeks they'd show a new face in honor of the 13th anniversary.

If you ever get the opportunity to go from Mid-September to Christmas... this is a MUST DO for everyone!

Question of the Day - July 11
The arrival of the Pumpkin King and his happy haunts signifies the arrival of some pretty difficult food-centric
holiday events. Now that you're making a lifestyle change, you're going to have to think big picture!

What is your plan to resist holiday treats during Halloween, Thanksgiving, and Christmas?
Have you thought about how you'll manage at family functions or restaurants during the holidays?

Bonus Question: Share your experience with Haunted Mansion Holiday if you've ridden it!
